hello and welcome to the dot darling youtube channel a channel where we discuss magic mysticism religion the occult and everything on the fringes of esoterica and welcome back to my channel uh in this video we're going to be talking about everything i wish i knew before i became a phthalo for those who don't know i'm georgina rose i'm a thalamite i'm a ceremonial magician uh and i've been a thalamite for a long time now and i've been making these videos for a little over a year so thinking about all of that has made me really
reflective i've been reflecting on my time as a creator and my time as a practitioner and i kind of want to talk about everything i wish i knew these are not misconceptions just things that i wish i could tell younger me so that i would have you know a better experience right like if i knew these things because all these things i didn't really know um i could have saved myself a lot of stress and would have made my whole sort of conversion experience endothelima from mainstream religion a lot smoother my first thing i wanted
to talk about is balance so when i first got into the occult i kind of lost myself basically i spent like all my time reading occult books i did all these rituals 24 7 and inevitably i burnt myself out right you can only go at such a pace for so long so when you start you want to really make sure that you're not letting your entire life become about felima right you want to be doing the research you want to be trying out the star ruby the middle pillar these rituals that a lot of felt
lights begin with but also have time to live your life you don't want all your friends to be a cult related you don't want to spend all your time on occult social media you want to still live that life because if you don't you're going to get burnt out and when you're burnt out you're not going to make any progress you're going to go for months and months without making any progress at all and in the end that'll just make you feel crappy so it'll make your practice advance in a way where like you'll make
a lot of progress really really quick and then you'll drop off for months and go back up and back down when reality it's much better to have a slower increase of progress but over time so you're never having those times where you have to like relearn things like let's say you get really into a medic cobbling you burn yourself out and you go for months not talking about the sephirah and then you get back into her medical and you can barely remember what the four worlds are right that's not it's not consistent and in the
end it'll kind of bite you in the butt because you're gonna like have all these things you started but you've not finished you're gonna embark on these big rituals and never finish them and that's that's just not how you wanna progress because whenever you start on some big occult project you wanna see it to the end so you need to set realistic goals and not throw yourself in the deep end and then completely burn yourself out by the end of the year right that's not that's not sustainable because a lot of people will get into
the occult and then leave it later on and this is one of those big contributing factors so please don't fall into this trap second thing is that there's no single political ideology of felima if you've spent any time on thalemic discord server athletic twitter or scrolling through thalemic union's website you're going to notice there's a lot of articles about who aleister crowley would have voted for who would be thalamites at the abbey of felima in cefalu italy endorse and i get that um felima does have political implications there are certain beliefs that are completely incompatible
with felima right felima is the law of love and liberty so if you believe in that you can't really go and support an authoritarian dictatorship right doesn't really make sense but a lot of people have tried to go really deep into quotes from the book of the law into the commentaries this entire book called alistair crowley and the temptation of politics to try to like guess who crowley would have voted for but i find this whole pursuit kind of silly because felim is not about crowley crowley began our tradition without him philemon wouldn't exist but
we're not the alistar crowley fan club okay we don't live to emulate crowley we don't live to worship crowley so i don't think it really matters that much who he would have voted for i think you can look at felima and extrapolate some political beliefs right a belief in liberty a belief and you know freedom a belief in loving others just like he said every man woman is a star making people equal whatever but you can't really like put that on to modern politics and so people will continue to fire off takes about how philly
was libertarian felima's liberal philemon socialist you know whatever whatever whatever into the eternity but i think in general we should just base our own personal politics on what is compatible with felima and not let felima guide our political beliefs or act like we have to agree with every thalamite under the sun because i don't know if you met any thalamites we're all very you you know when you follow a religion about will and strength you're going to become a little stubborn so in general like try not to go crazy trying to be the most perfect
felon 24 7 because we don't agree on anything let alone agree on the political party we should all vote for and considering felim is all about independent thought and free will i feel like it almost goes against the lima to think in such a boxed in way where we're like we have to vote how our religion tells us you know we are not the catholic church there is no filmic vatican so get that whole idea out of your head and vote and believe and whatever feels in line with your interpretation of felima but don't let
that like lock you down or don't be like i have to live exactly like aleister crowley because that's just just ridiculous on crowley people have a lot of opinions on him in the fleming community and we don't all agree so this is the thing i think a lot of people think that fellow mics are like really into crowley and that's true i mean i've made countless memes about the guy i've read the biography of his life i find him deeply fascinating i'm very inspired by him i've made videos on him but as i said earlier
thalima's about your own true will your true will is not to do what crowley will right like he lived in line with his own will one person's will is not gonna be your will we're not do what felima says right we are independent thinkers we are critical thinkers we are asking questions we are seeking divinity we are not just blindly doing what crowley said or did so if you live your life trying to larp as alistair crowley which a lot of people do they like do all the drugs he did they try to be super
promiscuous or whatever which i have a lot of thoughts on that i don't think that's why we should honor crowley i think we should honor crowley for his ideas not his sort of hedonism uh because i don't think hedonism and philemon are the same thing i actually think hedonism in a lot of ways can block people from their true will in a lot of cases because they just get so into hedonism that they forget about the whole purpose of the lima which is to follow your true will and then to live in line with the
great work but that's that's a different conversation but basically like people try to larp as alistair crowley and that's just not what we are he is not a perfect person okay he did some things and said some things that are messed up i've tried to defend some of them and some i will never defend he was a individual he was a single person he was not perfect and he was not the devil right he was not some crazy evil man and he was not a saint but he had brilliant ideas and he started the religion
that inspires all of us that has changed me and so many people's lives so for that we need to respect him and give him the respect that he deserves but we are not role players and we are not trying to be him in general crowley is nuanced he is not black or white he is a complex historic figure and if you want to make up your opinion on him you should read his biography i really like pure dwarbo that's probably the best uh biography on his life and then make your own decisions within felimo we
actually have a big debate on where he falls within the religion some people recently have been trying to like eliminate crowley from filmic discussions and some people recently have been like no we have to recognize him but we can all agree that he was influential and we all have respect for him whether you think he's super relevant or should be cut out of the religion that's a different discussion that's something that you know we can discuss people have made a lot of conversation about that you can look that up and see all people's stances but
thelonites don't share an opinion on crowley and to act like we just want to be him or we worship him is just wrong we are not a cult of personality and the next thing i wanted to talk about is that your beliefs are going to change so felima we're not a monolith and our biggest and most important teaching is that of true will so if your true will ever ends up leading you away from felima or felim is not forever for you right like you change beliefs you convert religions again that's fine you know we
aren't all willed to be ceremonial magicians we don't all like the same thing and that's okay if you end up coming into felima for a while and then leaving that's great if you were in another religion and you come into philemon from that that's great we move around and we question our beliefs right we always encouraging questioning in felipe so if you end up leaving that's totally valid and that's fine some people will stay here forever and some will leave and that's okay we're accepting of that and you shouldn't ever feel guilt if you begin
straying or questioning your beliefs right apostasy is not a sin here do what works for you and if you end up leaving felima that's okay we just hope that while you were here you learned some lessons and you grew as a person because we are always evolving and growing as people if we were stagnant all the time and our beliefs never changed that would be rather robotic and unfortunate next thing i'd want to talk about is kind of like two points in one and that is the broadness of felima so with emphalima our biggest teaching
is will but there are a lot of practices associated with felima that is saying doing rush multiple times a day doing star rubies doing an ocean doing croatia doing gnostic mass you know there's a lot of practices associated with felima beyond the mere philosophy of felima philema is not just a way of thinking or viewing the world but a lot of practices are involved especially if you decide to go through a system like the oto or the aaa or any of the other groups that are associated with felima you're going to be taught a lot
of things to do a lot of practices a lot of behaviors um and you don't need to do all of those to be a thalamite nor are you locked to those behaviors right like i know a lot of fellow knights who are under runes who are under witchcraft who also are gardnerian wiccans while being oto members right like that's just really common and we encourage that you're not just strictly following felima practices tm to be a phthalamide being a thalamite is pretty broad and opened but on the flip side you can't just do whatever you
want and call yourself a thalamite felima is not nebulous self-help their beliefs you have to agree upon to be a thelamide and that would be the book of the law you have to accept the book of the law as a holy and channel divine text you have to accept true will to believe in that you have to share basically core beliefs right you have to agree with us on some things do you need to be a perfect thalemic person absolutely not i think felima is very welcoming we're not a restrictive religion you we're not a
closed practice you know you don't need to be from some ethnic group or go through some crazy initiation to be a thelamite though felima felim initiations you can do initiations within groups but you don't have to do these things to like be a thalamite um but there are some beliefs you want to hold so while felima is pretty open pretty orthopraxic you still need to agree on certain things and there still are some restrictions within felima so it's it's somewhere in the middle um i think people have a tendency to either go if you're not
following the perfect aa curriculum you're on a thalamite or go anyone can be a thalamite you know like it's somewhere in the middle there i think it leans more in this direction personally but it's it's a lot more nuanced than that it's not black or white being a phenomenon or being an autophalomite in the end though that's your decision don't let anyone else tell you if you're a thalamite or not a phalmite it's your spiritual practice so you should follow what you believe and what you desire and what is in the cards for you don't
just go person on the internet said i'm a fellow white so i'm a felon right now right like do some thought about it do some meditation do some shadow work really think about is this the path for me do i agree with these principles when i read them literature do i agree with this or when i read thelemic literature do i go yeah there's some cool elements but i mostly disagree with it because you can be influenced by felima and not be a felon right like you can do that rituals and not be a phelamite
you can go to gnostic mass and not be a thalamite that's fine but if you're going to call yourself a thalamite you want to have at least a few thalemic beliefs the next point is that felima is not one sect so we think of philema as like one monolith a lot of the time where like the thalamites and so because of that people kind of think of like felima in this very traditional oto sense as like what thalima is because a lot of the thalamic writers that are out there and thalamic thought leaders are members
of a group called the oto but that's not the only way to be a thalamite actually the thalamites on the majority are solitary so if you look at like the numbers of these organizations they're actually kind of low um compared to the number of people who buy ceramic books and who partake in phonic online communities so the majority of phthalomites are actually solitary which i think really surprises a lot of people because felima currently is so tied to the oto and the aaa that people forget that people like me who are solitary felonites are actually
the majority of phthalamic practitioners today so felim is not just being in the oto uh voto is great for some people but it's not like the one it's not it's not the head of film it's not the only way to be a felonite that's ridiculous as well there's a thing called typhonian phelima which is like an entire different understanding of felima that a guy named kenneth grant came with they have their own groups uh people mixed the limo with other traditions the way that jack parsons interpreted felima is basically another sect like when he starts
talking about what he calls the witchcraft like that's such a radically different way of thinking that i don't fully think we can always put that in the same category as what i i call it traditional felima personally i call like people who are like really into this very traditional path like traditional thoughts i think that's the best way to describe them um but they're not the only way you can be a thalamite there are a lot of other athletic beliefs as well they're groups like the fraternities attorney that have a lot of thalemic ideas but
interpret them in a very different way so they're like felima adjacent but i could honestly consider their members thalamites if you read through the fs material like it's very thalemic so it just gets a lot more complicated there's not one way to be a felonite there's not one group you know we're actually a pretty diverse group of individuals and because of that that's why we don't agree with each other on anything right like we're not a single group where a bunch of people who share foundational principles the next point is my next point is on
social acceptance so when you become a phelamite people are gonna have really different reactions personally i don't think you need to tell everyone like i don't tell the people who i'm on the subway with hi i'm a fellow mind i follow a religion called felima i don't tell people when i first meet them hi i'm a fellow my like i don't wear it on my sleeve i know you guys may think that because you see me on social media but i have a normal life outside of this and in my normal life i'm not constantly
like pushing felima down people's throats so you don't need to tell everyone but i would suggest telling like your romantic partner or your family members if you're close to them for me i tell people like my close friends my close family members and all that so i do think like you should be somewhat open about it because you want to hide like a part of who you are because i was guilty about that at first right like when i first got into the occult the people i was really close to actually had no idea i
was an occultist i kept it really secret and that actually drove a wedge in those relationships i felt like i was really disconnected from those people and they didn't know who i actually was i felt really weird and like they were talking to someone i wasn't and so i did end up telling them and it actually made me really relieved but people had mixed reactions so some people were like that's super cool i know who crowley is and they're like that's awesome and then there were some people who thought it was kind of weird right
like some people will be judgmental because felima has been propagandized about so heavily right like there's all these articles about how felonites are like this horrible group of people crowley was literally satan all this nonsense essentially so some people probably will have a negative reaction and you need to be prepared to that and figure out like hey how am i going to explain this to people i suggest avoiding words like magic or a cult and instead saying things like mysticism because they're easier words to swallow obviously we believe in those things but sometimes non-occultists find
those words like super jarring when they first meet you so i suggest softening the blow you know you don't need to tell everyone and people won't always respond positively but that's gonna happen with any major life change and if someone truly cares about you they'll always stick around my next point is actually a bit of advice for new thelomites and that is do not read the book of the law first i remember the first time i read the book of the law i was so confused i didn't know what the hell was going on i
actually made a video explaining the book of the law to people like me who like you know it's not something they can understand at all so you can have some background on it and know how to actually approach it but yeah i read it first and i didn't know what was going on and i actually didn't look at felima for a while i stayed in the tradition i was in and found felima unappealing because the book of the lost didn't make sense to me even now sometimes i reread it because spoiler alert you don't actually
need to burn it the burning it thing is like kind of a way to weed people out so don't don't destroy your copy that's crowley being very tongue-in-cheek because the entire book's about living in line with your will and then he's like now dogmatically burn the book it's a test it's literally a test so don't burn it but know that it's a hard read and that even the most seasoned fellow minds have to reread it now and again and don't fully understand everything a blogger named paradigm grind made a pretty good attempt of breaking down
the whole thing i'll link it below but there's no there's it's not an easy read i would suggest reading any other cruelly book first to be honest like start with something like magic and theory and practice or magic without tears i have a video that's a full felima reading guide start with that don't start with the book of the law the book of the law will confuse the hell out of you and i wish i could like go back in time in the time machine and like slap younger me and be like put the book
of the law down read read magic a theory and practice stop but you know i can't do that uh everything looks good and retrospectively right like we can all look back on the past and know hey yeah i kind of didn't know what i was doing here but learn from my mistakes please and don't make the same ones be smarter than younger me um and my final piece of advice is that felima is deeply personal you do not owe every other thelamite on the internet an explanation for why you do what you do you don't
need to share every ritual you're doing you don't need to post the kabbalistic explanation of everything you do there's certain things you can keep private as a creator i've avoided sharing a lot of sort of my own personal notices because a big virtue in thilima is to keep silent you don't owe people an explanation you don't you don't owe every occultist you meet an explanation on everything you believe you don't owe anyone anything so do what works for you follow your own true will and achieve the great work you know and do that for you
don't do it for other people don't be a thalamite to collect fancy titles and collect fancy degrees to show off because in the end those titles mean nothing to the divine when you're alone with the divine like it doesn't matter if you're a 93rd degree epistemous whatever you know don't use thilima to flex and don't base your spiritual progress off of impressing strangers on the internet right your spiritual progress is for you so don't try to do this all for other occultist approval because in the end half of them are internet trolls and the other
half are just confronting you to feel better about themselves you know it comes from a place of insecurity so do what works for you and don't feel like you owe the internet an explanation or need to have some fancy title to be a good phelamite they're good fellow lines who are solitary they're good thalamus who are order members you know it's everything works for different people because we are not an orthodoxic religion the thelamite vatican is not going to come for you if you aren't perfect and if you believe you need to be perfect you
