We Begin tonight with new developments in a fiery plane crash in the East Valley that killed five people including a young boy good evening and thanks so much for joining us for 12 News at 10 I'm kadiva dine and I'm Troy Hayden marks off tonight the national Transportation safety board just released its initial findings into what led to this deadly accident last month at Falcon Field in Mesa 12 News journalist Chase go lightle has that report and joins us live with more what's in there Chase Troy kbe this report was released nearly a month after
the Dead incident and tonight an aerospace safety expert is weighing in on what exactly went wrong with this smoke could be seen for miles on November 5th when a Honda Jet with five people on board crashed through a fence and into a car just outside Falcon Field in Mesa there's heavy damage killing that driver and four people on board including a 12-year-old boy and his father only one person an 18-year-old who was on the plane survived all this time later the crash site remains burned and damaged with the smell of fuel still lingering now the
national Transportation safety board has released this preliminary report detailing what may have gone wrong Aerospace safety expert Anthony Brickhouse with 26 years of experience in his field read over it and says as of right now it doesn't appear there was anything wrong with the plane as of right now they did not find any any anomalies with those systems when I asked him if that means this was caused by human error he says it's still too early to say I'm sure they'll definitely be looking into um the actions that the pilot took the report did note
the pilot tried to stop the plane while it was cruising down the runway surveillance video capturing those moments right before the crash the problem Brick House says is once any plane reaches a certain speed on the runway you simply can't stop it you pretty much have to take off uh from the runway if not unfortunately bad things are going to happen while he doesn't know what the stopping point is for the h jet the report claims it was going 130 knots or nearly 150 mph when the pilot tried to De accelerate Brick House says while
there are procedures in place for rejected takeoffs it's easier said than done it's a really precarious maneuver and um the problem is that things are happening really quickly now it's important to know that this is just a preliminary report more information is expected later on uh within the next year the report also didn't say why the pilot decided to stop even though the plane was traveling at such a high rate of speed a detail Brick House says the NTSB will continue to investigate live in the studio Chase gelyy 12 News all right Chase thank you
