Please welcome Zendaya. >> [cheering] [music] [music] [music] >> How are you? You look great.
>> Thank you. But that dress seems dangerous to me. It's I don't like THAT IT'S GOT >> STEP ON IT OR WELL, IT'S GOT a thing coming like off your neck.
It really is does you got to be so careful. >> drama. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, how are you?
I saw you backstage at the Oscars last night. >> Yeah. And do you remember our encounter with me?
>> we we we kept it for the stage. Yeah, we said, "Oh, you know what? I'll mention that I saw you last night when you walk out.
" >> Exactly. And here we are. >> of the closet station right there.
You and your co-star in the movie Robert Pattinson were were surprise presenters, right? >> Yes. Yes.
>> Nobody knew you were going to be there. You presented best director. >> Yes.
Yes. Yeah, which is a good one to present. >> great one.
Yeah. I was wondering and I was curious to see who was going to read the name on the card because Robert and I'm sure you know this, >> [laughter] >> but he's a liar. He lies.
And I don't mean that in a negative way. >> No, he chooses to. He chooses to lie.
>> Yes. He has oftentimes told me stories that I just >> Does he really? [clears throat] Yeah, he's told me stories on television that he later told me he just made up cuz he didn't have anything else to say.
And then it follows him around and people will ask him about these crazy stories. >> keep up with. And he can't remember his lies.
>> know. You know what's so funny? So, the first time we kind of like hung out when we were preparing for The Drma.
That was one of the first things he said to you. He was like, "Yeah, I used to be a pathological liar. " And I and I was like, "Are you being serious?
Are you lying? >> [laughter] >> I can't tell. I can't ever tell because, you know, he's Have you noticed that he kind of he like laughs with everything that he says?
Like whether he's joking or being serious, he's always laughing. So, I never know quite when he's telling the truth or not. >> And if a pathological liar tells you he's a pathological liar >> I'm saying?
It's diabolical, really. >> [laughter] >> Really is. >> Or is he lying?
I don't know. You know, he's going to be on this week. I'll maybe we'll hook him up >> Get to the bottom of it.
>> or something to see if he's selling us the truth. >> starting I'm feeling I'm starting to understand the Rob-ness. Are you?
Yeah, I think I'm cracking it. >> Explain it to me cuz he's coming. I don't uh it takes time.
You know what I mean? We've done a few movies together this year. How many movies have you guys done together?
>> technically, it's three. Oh, wow. Three movies together.
Okay. >> We we never worked together before and then we did the drama and then Dune and Odyssey. So, it's like it's pretty cool.
Was the first movie Did it was Twilight like the first time you ever saw him in anything? >> what's funny? I actually I haven't told him this, but I watched Twilight for the first time right before we shot our movie.
>> Cuz I felt like I needed to do a little research. >> Interesting, cuz you seem like you would be right about Twilight age, right? >> I was.
I was, but for some reason I just I I hadn't seen it. Wow. >> that was my introduction to uh to Robert Pattinson.
What's your like all-time favorite movie? What's the movie that you've seen the most times? >> Do you know what?
And this is what's so special and so like I'm so grateful for is like one of my favorite movies, I did my like high school um like final report on Interstellar. Oh. >> Yeah.
>> [cheering] >> With Christopher Nolan? With Christopher Nolan and then um another one of my favorites is Prisoners by Denis Villeneuve. So, it's like the fact that Yes.
The fact that I get to [applause] work with these people is like still blows my mind cuz I'm such a fan and those are two movies that I like I'm when people come to my house, I'm like, we're watching these movies. " >> Oh, you do? You show them >> required watching.
Have have they most of them seen it already and you're making them watch it again? No, it's like they will have not seen it already. But even if they have a we can watch it again.
Tom Holland, did you show him Interstellar? He had seen it before, but we have watched it again. >> You watched it.
And you do you understand what's happening in that movie? Very well. Cuz you wrote a paper >> about it.
>> Are you sure you understand? >> very sure that I understand. I'm one of the few people What I don't understand about that movie, maybe you can help me.
Why would they put Matt Damon in it? >> [cheering] >> LIKE WHEN YOU COULD HAVE HIM out of it and not in it, to choose to have him in it seems like I don't know, it seems weird. >> [laughter] >> On Saturday you crashed a wedding in Las Vegas.
One of those chapels, wedding chapels. >> Yeah. Uh I think Oh yeah, we have a photograph here.
Now, these people had no idea that you were going to show up? They they they didn't. I mean, they did sign up to get married at the Drma Wedding Chapel, which was a thing.
I see. Oh, for the movie, okay. >> the film, so they did actually sign up to do this, which is really cool.
Um but they did not know that I was going to be there. So I got to surprise them. Thankfully, they were happy about the surprise.
I was like, "DO YOU IMAGINE you open the like, "Uh what are you doing here, girl? " Um but no, it went it went well and they are Based on your time with them, do you think they're going to make it? Be honest.
>> sure hope so. >> [laughter] >> I sure hope so. Young love, you know what I mean?
>> Cuz you never know. What night was this? What night was this?
This was in the morning. Oh, well yeah, see now a morning wedding in Las Vegas We're getting crazy. >> is shaky to start with.
>> [laughter] >> And now I know that you uh the drama is a lot of the um stories about an engagement and a wedding and I'm just being really careful cuz I don't want to say anything that will ruin the movie. But I'm sure you know the internet has gone uh berserk with uh stories about that you might actually be married Really? to Tom.
Yes. >> SEEN THERE ARE >> [cheering] >> TO THE POINT WHERE AND THIS IS ONE OF THOSE things that I don't really understand, people make these AI these AI wedding photos that look very realistic. Yes.
>> Of you guys together. It's yeah. And and many people have been fooled by them.
Well, I was like just out and about in in real life and people like oh my god your wedding photos are gorgeous and I was like babe they're AI. >> [laughter] >> They're not real. >> They're not real.
Was anyone in your life fooled by them in your real life? >> many people. >> And mad that they weren't invited?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Now you brought a video along that um I'm not sure what you what should I say about this video before we see it. Well, I just you know a little something to just clear the confusion something that's um This is not something you've shared anywhere but No, no, no, no. This is first time show.
>> Okay, all right. Well, let's take a look. All right, let's bring in mom and dad.
Yes. Everyone scoot in, get close. >> [laughter] >> Well, yeah, in a LOT [cheering] OF WAYS >> [applause] >> IT SOMEWHAT CLOSELY RESEMBLES A SCENE in the film Yeah, but it was yeah, it was a beautiful day.
And it almost is would seem as if somebody just pasted crudely pasted Tom's head over Robert's head. No, that was that was real footage. >> Okay, so just to be clear, that was not AI.
>> No, that was real. That was [laughter] real. I was there.
All right, wow, there you go. We got a real scoop here on the show. Zendaya is with us.
Her movie is called The Drma. [cheering] We'll be right back. I did.
I said if everyone knows he's a piece of why are we doing a breakfast special in the first place? It's like so incredibly irresponsible. No one ever cares until it's too late and then it always ends up backfiring on me.
>> [laughter] >> And I'm being serious, it's not funny. No, I agree with you. This is not funny at all.
It's very serious. You're laughing. Robert Pattinson [cheering] and Zendaya in the drama at the Sofia Theater on April 3rd.
>> [applause] >> Um, boy, you might be the only person who has pants both Batman and Spider-Man. [laughter] Iconic. >> It's miraculous.
You um Now that scene feels like uh it's like a romantic comedy, but uh the movie is very diff- there's drama in the drama. >> There is a lot of drama. >> And I'm being careful because I know that something happens in the movie that's important to the movie and I don't want to ruin it.
So I'd like you ruining it for us. No, no, no, no. That's the thing.
I think, you know, what's what's difficult about even talking about the movie is there is so many different genres. And I think it it it is a romantic comedy in many ways, but it's also a drama, but it's also I mean peop- everybody has their own kind of feelings leaving the theater, especially with the big twist. And there's so many conversations that are had after you watch it.
And it's just one of those things like I hope really hope that people don't spoil it for each other so they're allowed to go into it just unknowing and really experience the drama. >> it without revealing anything. I could see this movie causing a lot of problems for a lot of people.
Yeah. Yeah, very possible. >> In their life in their personal lives.
>> Yes, those conversations can go many ways. >> Yes, yes. There's also a surprising amount of vomiting in the film by you.
Is that what you >> And Rob. look for and Rob, too. Do you look for that in a part?
Is that something that Absolutely. Absolutely. [laughter] Um no, it's What was so funny is like um when we're shooting those scenes so you have like a tube that like is connected to a like a a pump situation.
>> And what's in the pump? Uh vomit or fake vomit. >> Fake vomit.
>> Which was for my character because my character supposed to be having like just drinking. Um it was like fruit juice but then kind of they added something to make it kind of like jelly gelatinous. Yeah, wasn't great.
Um but yeah you so you have a tube and then it kind of goes into your mouth and you have to bite on this thing and then someone else is controlling when the vomit comes out. Right. Exactly.
>> The vomit guy. How do I queue the vomit if I can't control when it's supposed to happen, right? >> Right.
So me and the special effects guy we really had to lock in. >> [laughter] >> And I was like yo okay so what's going to happen is when I put my hand up like this and I go that's when you know hit the valve. And then we got it.
>> One could argue though that vomit doesn't cooperate in that way with the human body. Vomit comes when it comes out. >> Yes but I have to act as though It's coming out.
Yeah. >> comes out. I have to you feel it coming, you know what I mean?
So I have to You know Meryl Streep can vomit on command. She's one of her gifts. She just That's why she's She can do it anywhere at any time.
I I need to work on my craft. You filmed this movie The Drma in Boston. Yeah.
And this is so good. >> Oh. >> [cheering] >> This is a real thing that happened on our local ABC affiliate in Boston.
So you were out walking around with your mom, right? >> Mhm. And it's one of those things >> like Newbury Street?
Okay and the news just is filming >> Somebody like Yeah, Newbury. Love [laughter] it. >> People in town and well take a walk look for Zendaya and her mom here.
Newbury Street opening to pedestrians today for the open Newbury Holiday Stroll. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu says she hopes bringing this back will help encourage people to shop local this winter. The street will open back up again next Sunday, December 8th.
It's a lot of fun but you really it was a chilly day to be out there shopping. Yeah, you really had to bundle up. Mhm, good day for hot cocoa, you know?
Can be nice and cozy. Wasn't a good day FOR HOT COCOA? >> [applause] >> I WAS, [cheering] YOU KNOW, JUST I WAS just hanging out with my mom.
She's going to hate that. SHE'S GOING TO BE LIKE, "WHY AM I ON TV? " UM, BUT YEAH, IT WAS SO RANDOM.
>> like a thing, yeah. That's funny. Now, listen, I know I don't know if you're going to think more or less of me for asking this question.
Probably less. >> Have you seen Spider-Man? I don't mean the guy, I mean the movie.
I've seen a little some. You have? >> I have.
Have you seen a literally a little something or the whole something? >> A a good amount of something. >> A good amount of something.
And? I feel very good about You feel very good about it. Okay, and that comes out in July?
Yes. Yes. RIGHT YOU CAN SAY?
[cheering] >> [applause] >> I'M I MEAN, HONESTLY, it's been like it's it's such a um it's such a huge part of of our story, obviously, and we grew up making those films, and it's such a privilege to be able to do them, and I know Tom cares so much about the role and doing it justice. >> Spider-Man ever. I Yeah.
Yeah, there's no question about it. >> might be biased, but yes. And um How many villains are in the film?
And he's really done a great job. You know I can't say that. >> You can't say that.
Do you vomit in the movie? Little >> I can't say that. >> [laughter] >> You just have to wait and see.
Well, it's great to see you. The movie is called The Drma. It opens in theaters April 3rd.
Zendaya, everybody. Thank [cheering] you.
