(peaceful music) (hand slapping) (peaceful electronic music) (peaceful electronic music continues) (group laughing) (group chattering) - [Durrell] Times like this is what I live for. Every first Thursday of the month, my wife Nia and I invite our friends over to eat. I call it Takeout Thursday.
It's good food with good friends. I got my beautiful wife by my side, my business partner Maurice, and I recently opened a recording studio. In one year, we tripled our business.
I'm good. I got everything I need. This is what life's about.
- [Nia] I can't do this anymore. (dramatic music) I'm tired of all the fake smiling. Deep down inside, I'm not truly happy.
I don't think I love my husband anymore. I thought I wanted to be with him forever, but now I have the strongest mixed feelings about him. Should I feel bad for stepping out of our marriage?
- [Alexis] I can't believe it. I actually married the man of my dreams. And the man of my dreams turned out to be a nightmare.
Look at his dumb ass creeping with that bitch. He really brought me here to eat at the same table with her? Looking fucking stupid!
- [Maurice] Damn. I got to think of an excuse when I leave the house tonight. I want to see her again.
That private session, (chuckles) that was just a tease. I need a piece of that Br-br-br-bring me a piece. - [Jamel] I'm not this no more.
This is the last time we are coming over Durrell's house. I know she lying. They friendship too close.
Fuck that. Durrell can't come over no more. - [Kate] Durrell look like he's stressed.
I wonder if what we talked about yesterday is still bothering him. I hope he not overworking himself. Why is Jamel looking at Durrell like that?
He still thinks Durrell and I have something going on with his dumb ass. I keep telling his ass we ain't never did nothing. See, that's the reason we can't do shit together.
I'm tired of his jealousy. - [Tasha] Who the hell these people Kate got me up in here with? And why this bitch across from me keep smacking?
I'm trying my best not to tell her she need to close her mouth when she chews! It's nasty! - [Durrell] Who am I fooling?
This is all one big lie. I should be happy, but I'm not. Is Nia really cheating on me?
I suspect Nia's creeping with Maurice. But would they they really do me like that? I know in the beginning of our marriage I wasn't perfect; but after she forgave me, I really changed.
I haven't even thought about another woman. All I could think about is us. This whole time I thought our marriage was growing stronger.
(group chattering) Nah, I want the truth. I know the answers are on this phone. Nah, this is a lame move.

- [Durrell] What's wrong with your leg? Why you was walking like that? - Oh, my thigh is killing me.

You don't wanna cause any permanent damage. (Nia chuckles) - [Nia] It's just my thigh, babe. It's okay.
I was doing squats with the dumbbell and damn the thing slipped right outta my hand. - I don't even understand why you still go to that same gym. You always complaining about how the equipment is terrible.
Why not just go to a different gym? - Durrell, you know I still go to that same gym because they make the best smoothies ever there. And I'm not giving up my smoothies for nobody.
- [Durrell] Yeah, you right. (groans) They do got some good smoothies. - [Nia] All right, babe.
Well, I'm off to work. Are you going to be working late tonight at the studio? - [Durrell] No, it's an early night.
- [Nia] Okay, well I guess I'll see you tonight when I come home then. - [Durrell] Yeah. (door creaking) (contemplative music) (Nia sighs) (contemplative music continues) (contemplative music fades) (upbeat music) - [Durrell] Oh, hell no!

I had to get these nails together. - Yeah. - A little massage.

I'll get you there quick. - My boy. Jesus Christ, man.
Come on. What's going on man? A1 favor.
- [Durrell] I gotta tell Maurice the truth. I am not trying to go to jail though. Fuck that.
(fabric rustling) (drawer slamming) (heels clacking) (keys jingling) (zipper whirring) (keys jingling) (door slamming) (door creaking) - Baby. - Hi, baby. - Glad I ran into you.
- How was the night? - Ah, my night it was cool. We we can, we gonna talk about it over dinner?
I booked us a reservation. You know the Fire Restaurant you been talking about? I booked it about like three weeks ago.
- Wait a minute. You wanna go to dinner tonight? - Yeah.
I wanted to surprise you. - No, no. Tonight is not a good night.
No, I'm, I'm just not feeling well, babe. - What you mean? You, you been talking about this place for months now.
- I'm just not feeling well. You can reschedule. Can you reschedule next to next week?
- Kate, we are going to this restaurant. All right? You wanted this, just, just you're gonna thank me later.
All right. Plus I, I, I wanted to surprise you. You know what I'm saying?
- I know, babe, but I'm just not feeling good. (Kate wretches) (Jamel knocks) - Yo, you good? (shoes squeak) (dramatic music) (door creaking) (dramatic music) (door creaking) - I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do.
(dramatic music continues) (both crying) - [Kate] False alarm. I'm fine. - Babe, let's, let's, let's toast.
I got you your favorite wine. - Oh no. I'm not really in the mood to drink.
(dramatic music) - Come on it's a special occasion. Let's toast. (wine pouring) Let's toast Kate.
- I'm not really in the mood right now Jamel. Maybe later. - Kate this is for us.
All right, let's toast. - I'm fine Jamel. I don't wanna drink right now.
- Drnk it! - Jamel. I said no, damn.
(somber music) (both sobbing) - No. (sniffles) - Can you uh, let me use your phone? I gotta call someone.
- (sobs) No. (phone buzzing) (Jamel sighs) - (sobs) I can't breathe. - Jamel?
- [Durrell] Man, why did I do that to Pops? I mean, I regret what I did to Pops and all, but going to jail ain't gonna bring him back. Maurice needs me.
He can't deal with losing his pops and running the studio the same time. We both gonna lose all our money. - I'm headed to the hotel as soon as I leave studio.
(engine rumbling) (tires crunching) (doors slamming) - Maurice, bro, it was me. I did it. - The hell you talking about?
You did what? What'd you do? - Pops, I kill Pops.
- Bro what the fuck are you talking about? - Oh, I did it, bro. - Rest in peace, motherfuckers.
(gun firing) (dramatic music) - [Durrell] Man it's crazy how things could turn out. How did I get here? I guess karma didn't waste no time today.
Everything gone. My wife, my studio, I lost it all. My best friend, business partner dead too.
Everything changed in just one night. Senseless shit. Communication would've saved lives.
Don't feel sorry for me though. They was planning to lock my ass up with the next 10 hours. I did dodge that bullet.
They had me on all the cameras in the hospital. They said Pops was doing good until I left. Jamel was arrested two hours after the shooting.
He instantly regretted the shooting as soon as they put the handcuffs on. The chaos left Kate devastated. She blames herself.
Stress and guilt, lead her to miscarry. Alexis got ownership of the studio and ended up going outta business, and she fell into a lot of debt. Over time Nia ended up selling the house and moving outta state.
Took a couple of years, but she eventually moved on in life. I can't blame her though. It's only so long she can mourn over me.
They say your life flashes before your eyes, before you die. The only thing that flashed before my eyes was a simple thought. If I would've never cheated on my wife two years into our marriage, none of this shit would've ever happened.
What can I do now though? What's done is done.
