Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. " Friend, let me ask you something from the heart. What comes first in your life?
Before you answer too quickly, think about it. What receives your first attention in the morning? What occupies most of your thoughts throughout the day?
What gets the best of your time, energy, and focus? Because whatever comes first in your life will eventually shape the direction of your life. Many believers want God's peace, God's wisdom, God's favor, and God's guidance, but often they seek those things without first seeking God himself.
Yet Jesus gave us a powerful principle that changes everything. Seek God first, not second, not when it's convenient, not after everything else is done. First.
Today, I want to show you what happens when you make God your first priority every day. Because when God is first, everything else begins to find its proper place. And if you're ready to put God first in a greater way, type this in the comments, "God, you come first.
" Now, let's begin. One, when you put God first, you receive direction. One of the greatest challenges people face is uncertainty.
People spend countless hours worrying about the future, wondering if they are making the right choices, questioning whether they are on the right path, and trying to figure out what tomorrow may hold. They ask questions like, "What should I do next? Am I making the right decision?
Which path should I take? What if I make a mistake? " These questions are common because none of us can see the future.
We can only see what is directly in front of us. We can make plans, set goals, and do our best to prepare, but we cannot know with certainty what lies ahead. That is why so many people live with anxiety, fear, and confusion.
They are trying to navigate life using limited understanding. But God never intended for his children to walk through life without guidance. He never intended for you to carry the burden of figuring everything out on your own.
Proverbs 3:5-6 gives us a powerful promise. It says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him and he will make your path straight.
" Notice what happens when God comes first. Direction follows. Guidance follows.
Clarity follows. Many people ask God to bless their plans, but God wants to guide their plans. He wants to be involved before the decisions are made, not simply after they are made.
When you put God first each day, you begin seeking his wisdom before making choices. You begin asking for his direction before taking action. You begin inviting him into every area of your life.
And something remarkable starts to happen. God begins shaping your thoughts. He begins adjusting your priorities.
He begins leading you in ways that you may not immediately recognize. Sometimes he guides through his word. Sometimes he speaks through a sermon, a conversation, or a godly friend.
Sometimes he places a deep sense of peace in your heart about a certain direction. Other times he protects you by making it clear that a particular path is not the right one. He warns you about certain decisions.
He opens doors you never expected. He creates opportunities that you could never have arranged on your own. He closes doors that would have brought unnecessary trouble into your life.
Looking back, many believers can see moments when God protected them from situations they thought they wanted. At the time, they were disappointed. At the time, they did not understand why certain opportunities disappeared.
But later they realized that God's guidance was actually his protection. Friend, God sees what you cannot see. He knows the beginning from the end.
He knows every detail of your future. He knows which opportunities will help you grow and which ones will distract you from his purpose. That is why putting God first is so important.
The closer you stay to him, the clearer his direction becomes. This does not mean you will always know every detail of the future. It means you can trust the one who does.
And when you trust him daily, step by step, he faithfully leads you exactly where you need to go. Friend, life becomes much easier when you stop trying to lead yourself and start following the one who sees the future. Two, when you put God first, you experience greater peace.
We live in a world filled with noise. Everywhere you look, there is something competing for your attention. There are deadlines to meet, responsibilities to handle, bills to pay, decisions to make, and endless streams of information demanding your focus.
People are stressed. People are worried. People are overwhelmed.
Many wake up with anxiety and go to bed carrying the same burdens they carried all day. Many are trying to hold together situations that feel bigger than they are. They are carrying worries about their families, their finances, their health, their future, and countless other concerns.
The truth is that many people are carrying burdens they were never meant to carry. They are trying to control things that only God can control. They are trying to solve problems that require God's wisdom.
They are trying to find peace in a world that can never truly provide it. Yet, Isaiah 26:3 gives us a beautiful promise. It says, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.
" Notice that the promise is not based on perfect circumstances. It is based on trust. God does not say that peace comes when every problem disappears.
He does not say that peace comes when life becomes easy. He says peace comes when our minds remain fixed on him. This is one of the greatest blessings that comes from putting God first.
Peace is not found in perfect circumstances. Peace is found in God's presence. When God becomes your first priority, your perspective begins to change.
Instead of focusing only on the size of the problem, you begin focusing on the greatness of God. Instead of being consumed by fear, you begin remembering his promises. Instead of imagining the worst possible outcome, you begin trusting the one who holds your future in his hands.
The problems may still exist. The challenges may still be there. The responsibilities may not disappear overnight.
But now you are facing them with God instead of facing them alone. And that changes everything. As you spend time with him daily, reading his word, praying, worshiping, and seeking his presence, his peace begins filling places where fear once lived.
His peace begins guarding your heart when difficult news arrives. His peace studies your mind when uncertainty tries to take over. His peace helps you remain calm when others are panicking.
This does not mean you never face difficulties. It means difficulties no longer have complete control over you. God's promises become stronger than your fears.
His faithfulness becomes greater than your doubts. His presence becomes more real than your worries. You begin remembering that the same God who guided you yesterday is still guiding you today.
The same God who provided before can provide again. The same God who carried you through past challenges will carry you through future ones as well. Friend, one of the greatest gifts you can experience is the peace that comes from surrendering your concerns to God every day.
There is a confidence that develops when you know your life is in his hands. There is a calmness that comes when you trust his timing. There is a strength that comes when you stop trying to carry everything yourself.
And friend, there is no peace like the peace that comes from knowing God is in control. When God is first in your life, his peace begins to rule your heart, and that peace becomes a source of strength no matter what circumstances you face. Three, when you put God first, your faith grows stronger.
Faith is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it becomes. No wonder develops physical strength overnight.
It happens through consistent training, daily effort, and repeated practice. In the same way, spiritual strength is developed over time. Strong faith is not something people are born with.
It is something that grows as they walk with God day after day. Many Christians wonder why their faith feels weak. They wonder why they struggle to trust God during difficult seasons.
They wonder why fear seems stronger than faith when challenges arise. They wonder why they become discouraged so quickly when life does not go according to plan. The answer is often simple.
They spend more time listening to the world than listening to God. Every day the world is sending messages of fear, doubt, negativity, and uncertainty. News headlines focus on problems.
Social media often promotes comparison, anxiety, and distractions. People constantly hear messages that tell them what could go wrong. Over time, whatever you listen to most will begin shaping your thoughts.
If your mind is constantly filled with fear, fear will grow. If your mind is constantly filled with doubt, doubt will grow. But if your mind is filled with God's truth, faith will grow.
That is why Romans 10:17 says, "Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. " Notice that faith does not grow by accident. Faith grows when we consistently hear and receive God's word.
When you put God first, you spend time in His word. You spend time in prayer. You spend time worshipping Him.
You spend time focusing on His promises instead of focusing only on your problems. You begin filling your heart with truth rather than fear. You begin reminding yourself of what God has already done and what He has promised to do.
And over time, your confidence in God begins to grow. The situations that once terrified you no longer have the same power over you. The challenges that once caused sleepless nights begin to lose their grip.
The obstacles that once looked impossible begin to look different. Not because your circumstances changed, but because your faith grew. You begin remembering that God has been faithful in the past.
You remember prayers He answered. You remember doors He opened. You remember times when He provided exactly what you needed.
You remember moments when He carried you through situation that seemed impossible. And every reminder strengthens your confidence for the future. This is how faith grows.
One victory becomes the foundation for trusting God with the next challenge. One answered prayer becomes the encouragement to keep praying. One act of obedience becomes the beginning of greater trust.
Friend, strong faith is not built in a single moment. It is built through daily fellowship with God. It is built by choosing His word over the opinions of the world.
It is built by trusting Him even when you do not have all the answers. It is built by taking one faithful step after another. A strong faith is built one day at a time.
One prayer at a time. One scripture at a time. One act of obedience at a time.
And as you continue putting God first, you will discover that your faith becomes stronger, your trust becomes deeper, and your confidence in God's goodness becomes greater than ever before. Four, when you put God first, your priorities begin to change. One of the most amazing things about walking closely with God is that he changes your desires.
He changes the way you think, the way you view life, and the things that capture your attention. When you first begin your journey with God, you may still have many of the same goals, concerns, and pursuits that everyone around you has. But, as you spend more time in his presence, something remarkable begins to happen.
Your heart starts changing from the inside out. Things that once seemed incredibly important begin to lose their hold on you. Things that once consumed your thoughts no longer carry the same weight.
Things that once felt urgent begin to seem less significant when compared to what truly matters. At the same time, things that matter to God begin to matter more to you. You begin caring more about your relationship with him.
You begin valuing his word more deeply. You become more concerned about growing in faith, showing love to others, and living according to his purpose. This is one of the beautiful results of putting God first.
God does not simply improve your life. He transforms your heart. Psalm 37:4 says, "Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
" Many people read this verse and think it only means that God will give them everything they want. But, there is something deeper happening here. This verse is not simply about God giving you what you want.
It is also about God shaping what you want. As you delight yourself in him, your heart begins to align with his heart. The more time you spend with God, the more your desires begin reflecting his desires.
The things that bring him joy begin bringing you joy. The things that concern him begin concerning you. The things that honor him become more important to you than the things that simply satisfy temporary desires.
This transformation often happens gradually. You may not notice it from one day to the next, but over months and years the change becomes clear. You begin wanting what he wants.
You begin valuing what he values. You begin making decisions differently because your priorities have changed. You begin asking questions like, "Will this bring glory to God?
Will this strengthen my relationship with him? Will this help me fulfill his purpose for my life? " These questions become more important than simply asking what is easiest, most popular, or most profitable.
You begin seeing life from an eternal perspective. Instead of focusing only on temporary success, you begin thinking about eternal impact. Instead of being driven solely by personal ambition, you begin seeking God's will above your own.
Instead of constantly chasing what the world says is important, you begin pursuing what God says is valuable. The more closely you walk with him, the more clearly you realize that many of the things people spend their lives chasing cannot provide lasting fulfillment. Only God can do that.
Friend, one of the greatest evidences that God is working in your life is a change in your priorities. When God is first, your time begins to reflect it. Your decisions begin to reflect it.
Your conversations begin to reflect it. Your goals begin to reflect it. The things you love begin to reflect it.
Putting God first doesn't just change your schedule. It doesn't just change your habits. It doesn't just change your daily routine.
It changes your heart. And when your heart changes, everything else begins to change with it. Five, when you put God first, you become a blessing to others.
God never intended your relationship with him to stop with you. His desire has always been for his love, his grace, and his truth to flow through your life and reach the people around you. From the very beginning, God has used ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary purposes.
He blesses people so they can become a blessing. He strengthens people so they can strengthen others. He comforts people so they can comfort those who are hurting.
As he works in your life, he begins working through your life. The more time you spend with God, the more his character begins to shape your character. The more closely you walk with him, the more his love becomes visible in the way you treat others.
Jesus said in Matthew 5 verse 16, "Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. " Notice that Jesus did not say to hide your faith. He did not say to keep God's work in your life completely private.
Instead, he said to let your light shine. Why? Because when people see the difference God is making in your life, they are drawn to him.
When God is first in your life, people notice. They may not always understand what is different about you, but they can often see the evidence of God's work. They notice your peace when others are anxious.
They notice your kindness when others are harsh. They notice your patience when others are frustrated. They notice your faith when others are filled with doubt.
They notice your hope when circumstances seem difficult. They notice the way you respond to challenges, setbacks, and disappointments. While others may panic, you trust God.
While others may become discouraged, you remain hopeful. While others may give up, you continue believing. These things do not happen because you are naturally stronger than everyone else.
They happen because God is working within you. And through your example, others are encouraged to seek God, too. Sometimes your greatest testimony is not a sermon you preach.
Sometimes it is the life you live. People are watching how you handle difficulties. They are watching how you treat others.
They are watching whether your faith remains strong when life becomes challenging. And often, God uses those moments to speak to them. You become a source of encouragement to people who are struggling, a source of hope to people who feel discouraged, a source of wisdom to people who need direction, a source of strength to people who feel weak, a source of light in places filled with darkness and confusion.
Your words can encourage someone to keep going. Your kindness can brighten someone's day. Your prayers can help carry someone through a difficult season.
Your faith can inspire someone who is losing hope. Not because you're perfect. Not because you have all the answers.
Not because you never make mistakes. But because God is working through you. The same God who changes your heart also uses your life to touch the hearts of others.
Friend, one of the greatest joys of putting God first is realizing that your life has a purpose far bigger than yourself. Every act of kindness matters. Every encouraging word matters.
Every prayer matters. Every moment of faithfulness matters. God can use simple acts of obedience to create an impact that lasts far beyond what you can see.
And there is no greater purpose than allowing God to use your life to impact others. When God is first in your life, you become a living example of his goodness, his faithfulness, and his love. And through you, others are drawn closer to him.
Friend, let us quickly recap. First, when you put God first, you receive direction. Second, you experience greater peace.
Third, your faith grows stronger. Fourth, your priorities begin to change. And fifth, you become a blessing to others.
Remember this. Putting God first is not about perfection. It is about priority.
God is not asking you to have everything figured out. He is asking you to seek him first, one day at a time, one decision at a time, one prayer at a time. And as you continue putting him first, you will discover something beautiful.

When challenges arise, remind us that you are in control. When fear tries to enter our minds, help us stand firmly on your promises. Strengthen our faith and teach us to trust you more deeply.
Help us to grow stronger in your word, stronger in prayer, and stronger in our relationship with you. Lord, align our desires with your will. Remove anything that pulls our hearts away from you and help us love the things you love.
Give us a greater desire to know you, serve you, and honor you with our lives. Help us make you our highest priority each day, not just in words, but in the way we live, think, and make decisions. Use our lives to shine your light to those around us.
Let us be a source of encouragement to the discouraged, hope to the hopeless, strength to the weary, and love to those who need it most. May people see your goodness reflected in our lives and be drawn closer to you because of our example. Father, let everything we do bring glory to your name.
May our thoughts honor you, our words honor you, and our actions honor you. Lead us, guide us, and help us remain faithful to you all the days of our lives. We surrender our hearts, our families, our future, and everything we have into your loving hands, trusting that your plans are always good.
Thank you for hearing this prayer. Thank you for your presence that goes with us. Thank you for the peace, direction, and strength that come from putting you first.
