sure it's I mean it's it was really interesting I mean as as we all kind of know there was you know quite a a polarizing uh narrative that happened during around the AAC canab uh uh time frame and we were like we know where what what was that going on there and so we looked at a bunch of Art articles uh tweets uh LinkedIn posts and and who did them and right around the time of the uh of the ad board there was a huge amount of uh tweets and and things and social media that
was either neutral or very or very negative and and you look at that at that little time frame what then happened is the news media picked that up so the the regular news then put those things same things out and by the time the the ad80 community got around to responding you know you know they responded where in in peer-review journals and by that time nobody was listening because the public narrative had already been set long before and so you know we as we looked at it the people who were responding were not people from
the ad community and we thought that's that's kind of a problem because the those people who are driving the narrative probably have a less qualified uh opinion or or comment about the about what's actually going on and and so you know we know that was our our our takeaways that you know we need to do something different to reclaim that narrative sure it it was 97% of of the of the tweets and and things were coming outside of the ad Community that's kind of alarming that I mean our we as a as a research Community
just didn't have a voice it was it was squelched by by you know those who who were very loud you know and then and the even allow very few who are tweet retweet and know linking to each other that you know says that drives a narrative and you know the algorithms that are out there that drive you know the social media pick those things up they know how to work on and and that's the narrative is gone well I think you know we as the research Community need to kind of take that space back um
one of the things that we're going to do at pentara after looking at this and you know being alarmed ourselves is we're going to hire you know a person that with a communications degree you know social media that knows what to how to respond to these things they're they're looking at this space and and saying you know you know maybe in the you know the 8:00 Monday morning hey this is what happened over the weekend in Parkinson's or in ALS you know and we can then look at it see if it's you know what's going
on you know and does pentara want to have a statistical voice in that re in that response and then they you know our our PhD statisticians can you know chime in on it and our then our social media person can act as a surrogate for our our phds and you know we can respond timely I mean we're still going to publish in the peer- rreview journals obviously but but we don't uh render our our our current narrative um ever that's that that we we we can't do it
