hello everyone and welcome back for the 10th episode of the Diary of anend dones I can't believe we are on the 10th episod already where has the time gone thank you very much for staying with us for being so active and exchanging your experiences it's been wonderful to see lots of discussions today we'll be talking about trauma so stay with [Music] me this case was referred to me because this patient used to be a rugby player and if you have children you know the feeling of sports and injury and all that fear that something is
going to happen to the teeth that's exactly what it is so this patient when he was a rugby player he said that he was not using wearing the mouth guard which is nowadays um is very important to use I think it's is is a compulsory is mandatory um to to the sports mainly in rugby and in hockey however there are some sports that are still sports with contacts like football that I think it should be mandatory as well is a safety equipment should be part of that anyway this patient had an injury during rugby several
injuries and it developed like a crack Buckley a vertical crack it was not too thick um it was not discolored either but you could see with the transillumination you could see that crack the tooth got the pop got necrotic and now developed a paricular radiolucency and a Buco fistula so in sports as we know is very very important to use the mouth guard and mainly a mouth gut that you can really protect your teeth it will not be impossible to have a trauma but at least it's going to protect a little bit better from a
a mild I would say moderate trauma sever trauma no I don't think so but at least I think it will avoid lots of problems that we are we used to see in the past the root canal treatment was performed wared and one year later you can see the radiolucency a lot a lot smaller you make question why a fiber post was placed in that tooth although a conservative um a small coronal prep the tooth had a crack and I could see the vertical crack in this direction nowadays I don't think I would have done a
fiber post I think I would have bonded a composite all the way through and not a fiber poost I believe that the composite has a modulus of elasticity within the Dentin a lot better than the fiber poost but anyway a fiber post was chosen and the crack was quite small was not going deep was not going to the SE below the CJ was not a proper fracture so a crown was not advised we took this tooth out of occlusion and it's essential shouldn't be any problem two years review and the the bone is still the
same line cervically and you can see a lot more healing of course there is no fistula no swelling no pain is completely asymptomatic coronally is very stable and that's the threeyear review very stable as well I think going back as I said composite the fiber poost works it used to be guideline anyway to do that uh it used to be a wonderful treatment everybody wanted to put a post in the past and nowadays we are going in the direction that we don't want the post anymore so we used should put if you were old enough
we used to put posts in molers and now with the advance of composite we don't do that anymore and the fiber post was very popular for many years and again we are not seeing the indication in lots of cases that we used to do fiber poost conventional metapost we are not seeing anymore with the the advances of composite I hope you are enjoying our cases and I hope you stay tuned with us and you carry on putting all your comments and be part of this amazing Community thank you thank you very much take [Music] care
