with one hand. [laughter] [music] [music] Minions, tonight we steal Zaboon. [screaming] Sophie Cunningham is easily one of the toughest competitors in the WNBA, but her real superpower is making everyone laugh.
No matter where she is, she has a way of turning regular moments into comedy that's impossible not to laugh at. Nobody is safe around Sophie when she's in a prank mood. She pulled the viral egg crack prank and the reaction will have you crying, laughing.
Make one hand. [laughter] It's a trend. It's a trend going on.
[laughter] It's a big trend going on. All right. There you go.
Yep. If I can take a picture, too. Yeah, that's fine.
Right on your guns. Right on your guns. [crying] I'm gonna shut up now.
Thank you. Thank you, Sophie. When an interviewer tried messing with Sophie with a tricky question, she gave him a hilarious response nobody in the room was ready for.
You have so many people who support [music] you and come to your games. Do you think you even need the leagues or could you just make money on only fans? No, I think you [music] do need the leagues because that's what gives you the platform to have all these fans.
Only fans can be a platform [music] in themselves. Maybe plan B should support that platform. Hands on those [music] green things.
No, actually. What are those green things on the floor? [music] Uh, they're dildos.
I was wear dildos and that got thrown on the court. What's [laughter] wrong with people? [gasps] I have no idea.
But, [music] uh, it kind of scared me. I wasn't expecting a dildo to be thrown at me, especially during a game. So, tonight when your head hit the floor, everyone held their breath.
You were laughing. So, could you explain kind of what was going on in that moment? Yeah.
Well, I laugh when I'm in pain to give you a heads up. Um, no. You know, I just tried to get a jump ball and yeah, that was tough.
I don't know what to say to that. I It was hard. It hurt.
[laughter] You've seen how tough Sophie is in interviews, but wait until you see her in a puppy interview. The second they handed her a puppy, her reaction was just as funny as it was sweet. Oh my gosh, [laughter] this is so fun.
Are you guys having fun, too? You are. Your tail is waggling.
I think you guys should go to the farm. [laughter] You guys are so fun. Oh my god, this is the best station ever.
During the game, things were getting super tense against Dana Bonner. But right at that moment, Sophie pulled off one of the funniest trolls in basketball history, instantly turning it into a viral meme. What?
[cheering] [cheering] [cheering] Within days, the moment took over the entire internet. It got so big that people who didn't even watch basketball instantly knew Sophie as the pointing girl. They're the ones requesting that.
They're like, "Hey, can you point? " I'm like, "Whatever you guys want. " And so, [music] um, yeah, I I walked in and instead of like cheers and stuff, everyone pointed and I was like, I don't know if they set that up or what, but, um, it's been really fun, um, to come in there and now they're all starting to do it.
But I would, yeah, I didn't mean for that meme to even become a meme. Um, and then it kind of just went all over the world. [music] [music] [music] Aside from the funny moments, she also shared her honest thoughts on the criticism she faces and her response made total sense.
People are like, "Hey, you guys have a huge platform. Use it. " Well, once you use it, hey, stick the basketball.
You're an athlete. And it's like, you can't satisfy anyone, so you might as well just be yourself and beat to your own drum. And that's what I do.
And um I'm 100% okay and happy and at peace with who I am. There's always growth and you can always be better. But I do think that um that's something America can get better at is maybe not always agreeing with people, but also just showing peace and love.
It's okay to disagree. [music] Athletic. During a postgame interview, the reporter asked Sophie a question, but her mind went completely blank and her reaction was so funny.
Feel like you guys really were in control for almost the whole game after the good start. Our mindset has got to uh, you know, be on the defensive end. I know Cece hates to hear that.
She's like, "Let's score. Let's score. " And I get it and you go do your thing.
But everyone else [clears throat] in my mouth. It was not, but I'm just saying. I [laughter] I I'm on year seven and I do not believe people when they're like, "Hey, when you get old, you're going to know, boy, I think I'm starting to get old and I hate saying that.
" Is that broadcasting maybe something you want to get into post career? Absolutely. You know, I I think I have a lot of um aspirations and passions.
I do think I could talk to a wall. Clearly, I'm a yapper if you guys can't notice that. And so, I do feel like that's probably in my future.
[music] What happens if the WNBA suddenly drops Sophie from the team? That's the question an interviewer asked her, but her response was something nobody could have ever predicted. The WNBA screws you, you'll find a plan B.
[laughter] Not plan B, project B. Project B. Yes.
Interesting. [laughter] Oh my god. It's Saudi backed.
Is it Saudi money? No Saudi money involved. You sure Saudi Arabia doesn't want to pay women millions?
I mean, this situation, I don't think so. Sophie isn't just the funniest player in the room. She's also the best hype woman in the league.
Okay, first game day. I like this. I like this.
We need a hype woman. I know you said earlier this month that you'd be the Sabrina Carpenter to Caitlyn's Taylor Swift. Just that was a joke, but I guess people really took that seriously.
People love it. Game, was that your first interaction with Caitlyn? And what was so funny?
Yeah. Um uh you know to be honest um when we first played her I just think she's had a lot of pressure on her shoulders and I think uh a lot of people no one's uh walked in her footsteps and so it's really easy to judge and to say things but uh and then all-star game uh you know we were just having fun. I mean she was playing I was having a good time on the sideline and um I I kind of told her I was like hey you ever want to come to Phoenix let me know but that one kind of backfired on me now I'm here which is great.
[laughter] Every player wants to play their best, but for Sophie, she plays so much better when she You're on your period or not? [laughter] I know. That's where you're going with it.
No. You know what? I think I actually play better when I'm on my period.
Don't know why. When asked what she loved most about who's your hospitality, Sophie immediately switched the topic to food, leaving her teammates crying with laughter. What has been your favorite part about who's your hospitality?
Man, I'd have to say I know I could have joked about it, but like the meatloaf, the potatoes, the fried chicken, uh biscuits and gravy, waffles. Are we talking about hospitality, right? Yeah.
Like we were like the kindest I love you. I thought we were talking about being back in the Midwest when I miss people on the West Coast eat like rabbits here. We don't miss that.
My bad. Shout out to Nemo. [laughter] I like that.
I like playing with C. Um I like playing Thank God. Shout out dude.
Last year it can be kind of scary coming back and um being at a place that you know takes you out for the season. But I don't think like that. I think every day is a new day.
And um I'm not kidding. I really did say my prayers. I was like it's up to God now.
So I just went out there and did my best. You enjoy hyping up the crowd and the player you're next to is pretty reserved. But I saw Kelsey first time in a while kind of show that emotion.
So when you're when you see her get hyped like that, what does that do for the team when you know it doesn't happen? He's out of me. I really do think um this is a really unique and special team.
Um in the locker room, we really do love each other. Like we we love spending time together. Our practices, I'm not going to lie or long and sometimes we have to hold hands and be like, "Hey, we're going to get through it.
" You talked about building culture, chemistry, things like that. And obviously you get heated in the games like today, what it means to have Dana have your back. I mean, it's competitive nature, but yeah.
Yeah, no, I do feel close. I've just been eating like a freaking cow lately, so I need to chill out on that. But otherwise, no, I I really do feel good.
Sophie really couldn't stop trolling Dana Bonner, and her impression of her style was unbelievably accurate. How am I supposed to follow that today? I'm going to hit one beyond that.
I said I said she needs to focus. [laughter] What do you say to the people who say Sophie Cunningham, she she shoots those three-pointers, makes them look like free throws? I'm like, good.
Like, it's what I get paid to do. I should You do get paid. You know, barely, but we're still surviving.
Whenever Caitlyn Clark and Sophie Cunningham walk out together, their effortless chemistry and hilarious moments steal the entire spotlight. Sophie, where's your black arrow? Sorry.
She forgets I have a broken leg. Go ahead. Wow.
So, [laughter] this is fun. [cheering] She's not only the best player on the court, but her smooth dance moves are so fun to watch. [music] [music] [music] Heat.
Heat. [music] Hey, hey, hey. [music] [music] Hey everybody.
