General Motors and one of their branches Cadillac have reached an agreement to enter Formula 1 from 2026 onwards as the 11th team on the grid and it looks like two more seats are going to be open for the young and competitive drivers who are willing to prove what they're made of however given the nature of this Sport and given the fact that Cadillac will be a rookie team they'll need the experience of a veteran this is where Ricardo ticks all the boxes and after the confirmation has been made official can we see a comeback for
the eight-time race winner for the second time in his career and if so can it be more glorious than the previous one it's safe to say that Cadillac and General Motors entering the sport as an 11th team is one of the greatest things that could have happened to Formula 1 because not only is the grid expanding to 22 drivers we're also going to receive an engine manufacturer in the foreseeable future the plan for General Motors is to have an All-American team with American engines and American leadership from top to bottom however in the first couple
of years they might be smart to use the services of a driver who isn't American but has even greater popularity than the rookies that are likely to debut such as Colton hurter or pay to a ward however the most important thing is that we've received our 11th team on the grid and Formula 1 has changed its stance after long talks with the fom in which wolf was one of the fiercest naysayers when it comes to andreti entering the sport when addressing this matter through an official public letter Formula 1 wrote Formula 1 has maintained a
dialogue with General Motors and it Partners at twg Global regarding the viability of an entry following the commercial assessment and decision made by Formula 1 in January 2024 over the course of this year they've achieved operational milestones and made their commitment to Brand the 11th team with GM and Cadillac and that GM will enter as an engine supplier at a later time the last team that joined the grid was H back in 2016 and it was hard for them to prove their worth because they haven't finished higher than fifth in the constructors Championship so far
however General Motors is entering under much different circumstances although the first couple of years they're likely going to use the engines of Ferrari or Honda they're set to make a full switch to their own engines and that means that the void Renault has left by departing the program from 2026 onwards is going to be filled with a competitor who is likely going to bring much more heat to the grid compared to the french-based manufacturer be that as it may Toto wolf has also changed his stuns on the 11th team but primarily because the nature of
the events has changed a lot it's not Michael andreti that they're negotiating with it's General Motors as team owner and while the father of Michael and former F1 Champion Mario andreti will be appointed as a director of Cadillac the change of scenery was needed for General Moes to make an entrance into the sport when talking about it to a greater extent wolf said we have an obligation a staty obligation as directors to present the standpoint that is best for our company and our employees and we've done so in the past last I think if a
team can add to the championship particularly if GM decides to come in as team owner that is a different story and as long as it's creative that means we're growing the popularity of the sport we're growing the revenue of the sport then no team will ever be against it so I'm putting my hope in there according to Wolf the presence of andreti in the 11th team is not going to be as big as we all expected from the previous developments of events because no one from that family has spoken to him but that doesn't mean
that General Motors won't choose to PR someone from the andreti family as they already have by appointing Mario andreti as the Director of Cadillac still it's not up to the team to decide the accretive part of the sport and it's not even up to them or the FIA it's solely up to the commercial rights holder and expanding on this furthermore wolf said no one from andreti or andreti Global or whatever the name will be has ever spoken to me a single sentence in presentation of what the accretive part is but they don't need to because
the teams don't decide it's the commercial rights holder with the FIA we have no say we can have an opinion like I'm having here now it's just if I wanted to be invited to a party and going to the party I'm sitting down on the table and telling who I am and why I am really good fun and sitting here and everybody will enjoy my presence what is now more than interesting is to see how the driver's lineup is going to develop because we do know that Michael andreti preferred an All-American team on the grid
and promised that he will bolster the American influence in the sport however General Motors might follow a pattern that has been presented by Audi as well who are also going to be rookies from 2026 onwards and that is to have a rookie and experienced driver paired next to each other here Ricardo makes the most sense because the Aussie has proven time after time that he knows what he's doing on the grid and while this form hasn't exactly been spectacular in the racing Bulls we do know that he can bring it back if given the proper
machinery and motivation what General Motors in Cadillac would need from day one is profound feedback from their drivers and if they're to appoint two young rookie drivers they are going to receive anything but that of course the fact that they've been using Toyota's wind tunnel in colog for the 2026 regulations and have already tested the chassis go to show that they might mean business and nothing less of course the appointment of Mario Drey as a director of Cadillac is also interesting because we thought that this role would go to his son Michael who has been
working tirelessly to provide an entrance for his company but after stepping down as a CEO of his company he might have understood that an entrance in Formula 1 is possible under certain circumstances that might not favor him this time nevertheless Ricardo has been praised by racing bulls and Coda regarding the technical feedback that he's able to provide about the car and this is exactly what Cadillac would need from 2026 onwards the regulations are going to be a novelty for everyone on the grid including the most experienced ones so we're likely going to see the driver's
input being the most important factor as to in which direction a team will move positive or negative apart from Ricardo the other two obvious candidates for the seat are definitely Colton hter the man who was drawn interest to be an F1 driver all the way back in 2022 but didn't have the super license as well as P award who is a fan favorite and a current McLaren junor driver there's no doubt that America will have their own driver on the grid after sergeant who wasn't really representative with Williams and didn't make the nation proud but
with how everything is moving forward we should be expecting a lot of changes from 2026 onwards the question is whether they will be positive for the newcomers Cadillac and how can Ricardo influence the American team to sign him now that they are in search of two new drivers of course the interest to remain in the sport always remains high with the eight-time race winner and while he said that he's retiring and will rest for a bit we must not forget that Cadillac is entering from 2026 onwards which is one more full season without an 11th
team Ricardo will have a chance to prove his worth in competitive machinery and what is more important he'll be able to further prove his popularity in the USA continuing his career as an F1 driver we must not forget other drivers who have the potential to drive for Cadillac such as Franco colapinto who is also has high popularity in the USA and Latin America which is the primary reason why Red Bull is considering replacing Perez with Franco and botas who's likely to settle for the reserve driver role in Mercedes for 2025 but will be actively hunting
for a seat in Cadillac if the opportunity arises it's a very interesting situation because it's very important which manufacturer will provide the engines to Cadillac as well in their first one or two years since it's expected that Cadillac will bring their own engine from 2027 or 2028 if they were to take the engine from Ferrari the Marinello team might ask for one of their reserve drivers or the academy ones to take the seat although it would be in a permanent manner just so that they could test their talent and see whether or not they're worth
exercising a full-time F1 seat if something was to drastically change in Ferrari be that as it may Ricardo might have found himself a new Lifeline with the entrance of General Motors and Mario andreti as a director of Cadillac but with all of this in mind do you think that the Aussie can rejuvenate his career in this very unusual chapter in his career and more importantly do you think that the entrance of General Motors is bringing value to the sport rather than taking away some of it let us know in the comments below and if you're
