Having talked about how close we're going to sleep together, I will cuddle the out of anything warm. I don't really care what's attached. It doesn't matter. >> This is survival. There's nothing sexual about this. >> I can't wait to actually get to meet this guy. Hopefully, he's tall. Hopefully, he knows how to hunt and trap. A lot of the time that I've spent in the Back country, it's dangerous [music] and you don't go out with anybody you can't fully trust. Without knowing who this is, it's going to be hard. >> There's a naked man in
front of me, a pretty attractive guy. >> Hi. [laughter] >> My name's Julie Owl. >> Puma. >> Hi, Zuma. I like his hair. And I'm actually kind of nervous. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Kind of like ah I'm naked. >> I'm a bit of a mountain man. >> Right on. Me, too. I mean, I'm not a mountain man. [laughter] She's a very tall woman and as you get bigger, the more resources you use. >> So, my instant feeling was a bit of concern, but >> I could curl up into her spoon, no problem. You know, I
wouldn't even need a shelter. >> Should we find some shade and maybe Pow-wow and decide what our plan of attack might be? >> Yeah, it sounds good. >> Julie and Puma are allowed to bring one essential survival item each. >> A machete. Sweet. >> This is my cooking pot. A small crew will capture the 21-day journey with clear instructions not to intervene unless a medical emergency makes it absolutely essential. >> In addition, Julie and Puma are provided With handheld cameras to record their experience. >> What's up? >> Hello. You're beautiful. [laughter] >> Let's get the
map out. >> A primitive map of the area has been given to Julie and Puma. indicated on it is their extraction point four miles southwest [music] down the river where they'll need to be 21 days from now. The map highlights a location of a stream and clearing where they can set Up shelter. They must navigate through the treacherous terrain before nightfall. >> We are here and north is behind us. So, which way are we going to go? That way. Yeah. Okay. I can't wait to find some water. >> Obviously, that's chore number one. Hydration. I'm
still like, I have no idea who this guy is. Like, who is this dude? In a situation like this, your partner is Your lifeline. This stranger has my life in his hands. Vice versa. >> There was a slight concern, but I just hope she's strong where I'm weak, you know, no matter what the jungle throws at us. >> Wow. Just like straight [music] down. Take your time. [laughter] >> Okay. >> As part of their selection process, Puma and Julie have undergone rigorous physical and psychological testing. Their overall survival assessment has been evaluated by [music] experts
according to three categories: skill, experience, mental. Puma has tested his survival skills in many [music] extreme environments, but his maverick nature could tempt him to flout the basic rules of [music] survival. Julie's experience as a survival teacher scores her highly, but her lack of realworld [music] experience could count against her. Julie and Puma have been given overall Survival ratings or PSR. Puma's survival rating is set at 7.1. Julie is set at 5.5. Our experts [music] will reassess their survival rating at the end of their 21-day challenge. >> Watch this edge here. It's all eroded. >>
Oh my god, this is insane. We just started and I already feel like I'm about to fall to my death. Gotcha. Coming down that face barefoot in the mud that spells disaster and trying to rely on plant life as your lifeline. It's not easy. The soil's soft and that stuff pull out and it was steep enough to where once you started tumbling it would take a while to stop and that's mechanical injury and that's the end of your day. How about this? Hold this and I'll hold the end and I'll give you attention on your
way over. >> Good eye on that, by the way. >> Thanks. I just found the game trail. Look at the Tips of the track are rounded. So that would mean it's not really a deer. So this is a boar track. The boar probably knows our patterns better than we do because they're probably watching everything. So, it's definitely a concern. >> Those things can get kind of nasty. We should probably keep moving. >> Yeah, >> that's a meal. Get that quick. >> All right, never mind. Really feeling really dehydrated. I think I need some water. >>
How much further is it? >> I'm concerned more, I think, for Julie than I [music] am for myself at this point. She was talking already that she was thirsty and I wasn't feeling it yet. >> So, I'm actually [music] a little concerned about her stamina. >> Oh, wow. >> That's sweet. >> I bet you that's a big tree that's on the map. >> How far away is it from our spot? >> Let's get the map out and see. Started here. We're probably in here somewhere. >> Mhm. >> I'd like to get out here. We need
water. So, if we're going to get here before nightfall, we got to >> we got to put a move on. So, >> we've come about halfway. >> Let's move with a purpose. >> I'm concerned that this hike is taking too long cuz we're burning daylight and we just need to focus on getting a shelter before it gets dark. >> Wow, look at that water. >> Hey. Oh, wow. All right. Is that the spot? >> Beautiful. Wa! >> Water. >> Water. >> Check that off the list. >> Oh, it's so nice. I just want to get
in that. >> Yeah, but you know, we're running out of daylight. We need the fire to make this water drinkable. Should we maybe try and focus on that or should we go for shelter first? >> Yeah. I mean, there's some creepy crawies out there like uh vipers and and scorpions and >> I think getting off the ground is going To be really important. >> Okay. Yeah. With so much unknown about their environment, Julian Puma's decision to go for shelter and not fire is a crucial one. >> I'm stressing because we don't know the environment. We
don't know what the creepy crawies are like. We just know that they're more active at night [music] and at night we can't see anything. Gets pitch black. It's not safe to be on the ground. >> Julie and Puma are building a high platform shelter using thick tree trunks for their foundation and smaller branches as support beams. The materials are lashed together with vines and once complete, the shelter will keep them up off the ground and away from dangerous predators. >> We didn't leave ourselves a whole lot of time to do this. You know, you need
a good 3 4 hours for any kind of shelter, Even in the best conditions. And with the daylight diminishing, this has been a major concern of mine the whole time. I don't have the resources here to do this in the time allowed. >> [music] >> My name is Cassie Deekle. When I was a kid, my parents thought it was very important for my brother and I to learn primitive survival skills. So, they actually had someone to come to [music] the house and teach us how to survive Shelter, fire, that sort of thing. I love traveling
on my own to really rural and dangerous places. And I was living in the Ecuadorian Amazon and the Bolivian Amazon. This is the ultimate test to all my survival skills, all of my mental knowledge, everything. This is the task. >> It is so humid that your clothes are just wet from sitting out and being around. Not that that's going to matter for long. My name is Forest Galante. I Live in Santa Barbara, California. I'm a waterman. I'm a spear fisherman. [music] I'm a free diver. I'm a herpatologist. So, I spend a lot of time with
my hands on reptiles. I'm extremely good at catching most animals with my hands. One time I [music] took a trip to the Amazon jungle, managed to wrangle a 19.8T an 8ft anaconda. That was just stunning. >> We just spotted some some whales over here. I might jump in with them if I get lucky. Going to be meeting my naked counterpart for the first time. I really hope that she's a skilled outdoorsman. This challenge is really all about surviving the 21 days. So, regardless of personal differences or matters of opinion, I hope that she's really good
out there. [music] >> I'm not here to hook up or check out my partner or anything. We're here for a survival challenge. For him, it might be interesting um to have a nice young Woman to look at, but u when it comes down to it and he's really thirsty and hungry, I think he'll be looking for other things. >> Time to get naked. Woo! >> Uh I' I can't say that I've ever been more weirded out to be naked right now. >> Yeah, this is really strange. Kind of creeping out. Creeped out right now. Starting
to get the usual pre being naked with a stranger jitters. I'm just going to make this as awkward as I can Straight off the bat. >> Okay, I'm just kidding. How you doing? >> Cassie, nice to meet you. >> Cassie Forest, how are you? >> A little weirded out. >> Is this what it is? I don't think it's that bad. >> It's a little weird. >> So, these are actually edit edible. >> Oh, are they? >> It's a type of uh a type of kitant or a limpit. There's some water snakes around Here. They're very
uncommon. It's super important to get on the same page. This is a tough environment. You need others to teach you things. I pointed out the edible shellfish and I'm hoping that it may bring us a little bit closer together. >> These guys are also edible, just so you know, cuz there is actually a very toxic kind of snail. So, you hold it up and you check the color of the water. >> I think Forest was showing off. He Wanted to just kind of showcase his skills all at once at first. And I was like, the
number one thing we got to do is a shelter. And I felt like that just wasn't his, you know, top top priority >> with the strong sun. may be able to create a fire using some light refraction. >> I don't have anything that bad to say about them, but I'm sure I will come an hour from now. >> Pods look pretty heavy. I think there's A good chance for rain. Explain to me exactly what your thought process is with the bamboo. >> Yeah, we're going to slice it in half, turn it over to the round
side, and use that as the bed. The same thing for the roof. >> Okay. I think Boris really um distracted us from starting our shelter. >> He spent probably an hour and a half, you know, collecting limpetss. [music] We just got to get that shelter done Before it rains. >> I'll just keep going. I'm just >> Okay. >> Finding it hard to see. So, you just >> get the roof if you [music] can and latch these if you can. >> Oh, thank God. >> Okay. We got a lot to go still. >> Yeah. Yeah, at
this point I'm just hoping that the snakes aren't out and about because literally I have no idea where I'm stepping right now. I can't See anything. >> Hi. >> Um, >> no judging. >> No, absolutely. >> This isn't weird at all. >> This is awkward. I'm Fernando. >> I'm Samantha. >> Nice to meet you. >> It's very nice to meet you. >> Yeah. >> Welcome to Malaysia. >> Thank you. Thank [laughter] you. Um, so >> Wow. Yeah. >> Well, this is a little weird for me. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Well, satchels with our items. >>
Yeah. Let's just see what those are. >> Got it. >> Samantha and Fernando are each allowed to bring [music] one essential survival item. >> Ah, I got my machete. >> This is going to be huge out here. >> Yeah, it's going to be really I'm glad to see that. And I've got my fire starter, which I'm really excited to see this because it is wet in the jungle. >> In addition, Samantha and Fernando are given handheld cameras to document their experiences. >> State your name and where you're from. >> I'm Fernando Calron. >> I'm Samantha
Pearson. >> A small crew [music] will capture the 21-day journey with clear instruction Not to intervene unless there is a medical emergency. >> And a map. >> Oh, awesome. >> Yeah. The map shows that Samantha and Fernando have been dropped off along the northern shore of the lake, completely surrounded by dense rainforest. To find a suitable spot to camp, they will need to make their way deeper into the jungle along this tributary stream, where they hope to have access to fresh water, Fish, and reserves of bamboo for a shelter. After 21 days, they must swim
3 and 1/2 miles up this river amid snakes and monitor lizards, where a boat will be waiting to extract them to safety. >> So, try walking on the bank. Yeah, sounds good. >> Okay, got to watch out for snakes. >> Bring it. >> As part of their selection process, Fernando and Samantha have each been thoroughly evaluated by experts based on Three key survival categories: skill, experience, and mental toughness. As a fireman, Fernando's leadership and ability to perform in life-threatening situations give him a high mental score. But his [music] lack of jungle specific skills could be
a problem. Samantha receives high marks for both skill and physical endurance, but [music] her lack of experience could put the pressure on her partner to support her. Samantha and Fernando have each been given an overall Primitive survival [music] rating or PSR. Fernando scores a PSR of 7.1 and Samantha rates a 6.8. If they are able to make it to the end of [music] their 21-day challenge, their PSRs will be re-evaluated by our experts. This is going to be a theme. I can I can tell already. >> Yeah, I know. We're just going to have to
get used to never being dry. >> Whoa. >> This is actually pretty deep. >> Take it slow. >> Yeah, you're going to fall in about 4t of mud. Don't get freaked out. You You will hit bottom, >> okay? >> But hold it up pretty high. Crossing this river is really creepy. Whoa. I can't see anything in the water. Every now and then, I kick or brush up against a stump that was just below the surface, wondering what I'd actually bumped into. Samantha's great. She seems fit in Shape. She's just going for it. So, so far
so good. >> Awesome. It is amazing how quickly the rain just goes away here. >> Ooh, what? >> That hurts. Something in this region really hurt me. >> Okay, then let's go that way. >> This plant hurts. See, this is good. This is good to know. >> It's a little weird to me how Fernando Can be so upbeat in these conditions. >> I I took one for the team there. >> That's right. And that could start to annoy me. >> Some good bamboo out there. Looks like it rains here every single day and uh we
can definitely get hypothermia so we can't afford to be wet all night. This little pocket here >> use these existing trees to get us off the ground. >> We build it kind of right in there. That's a pretty good amount of space. >> Yeah, that bar burns really well. Scrape off the outside of it. So >> Oh, nice find. And then even like starting with that branch, there's something to start creating something that's the perfect start to a lean to. >> Oh, this will be like this will be like a hotel. >> Yeah, a piece
of cake. We can charge people to come sleep here for like a rainforest experience. >> With only a few hours of daylight left, Samantha and Fernando [music] split up to find cordage and bamboo to build their shelter. >> Trying to build a shelter in this environment is really difficult. It is wet and muddy everywhere. >> Wa! You're covered in leeches. >> A leech. >> Oh, it's Oh, you got a leach. Leech got your ankle. >> Oh crap. >> So, let me go ahead and get them off for you. [music] The key is just to annoy
it till it falls off. Good. Man, we've been here only a few hours. You look beat to hell already. >> Uh-huh. And the flies are feasting on the blood. When you have open wounds and you're in the jungle, flies smell the infection and they won't leave it alone, which is not only preventing it from healing it, but it continues to contaminate it. So, I'm just going to Have to keep an eye out. Oh, it's miserable. >> Hi. >> Howdy. I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say because we're in the same
uniform that we're on the same team. >> Yeah, you're right. >> My name is Bo. >> I'm Debbie. >> Nice to meet you. >> Nice to meet you. >> I'm guessing there are a lot of cayman here in this lake. >> Yeah. I want to get out of here as fast as we can. We'll have plenty of time to talk. That's That's my bag. >> Is that your bag? Awesome. >> Along with a bow drill fire kit, Bo and Debbie have each been allowed one survival item. >> I see I got my mosquito net that
also doubles as a fishing net. So >> awesome. I actually thought about bringing that, too. >> Great minds think alike, right? >> Yeah, I brought my machete. >> That's going to make things way easier. >> Yeah, >> this map is probably the next order of business. I think we need to head west to dodging them. Once they find a safe area to exit the lake, Bow and Debbie will make their way inland. They'll have to make camp at a safe distance from the Lakes's aggressive cayman population, but not so far in land as to be
devoured by insects or risk contact with the jungle's venomous coral snakes. [music] >> So, you traveled much? >> Nothing like this. >> Nothing like remote. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Well, Cayman, they like to attack by ambush. though. So, you got to be very careful where you step. Um, if you see a Small came, that definitely means there's big ones nearby. >> Oh my god. >> It looks like there's a break in the wood line there. I guess we'll head that way and get out. >> Yeah, that sounds good. >> What do you do for a
living? >> I'm a special forces officer in the army. >> Oh, awesome. >> Thank you for your service. >> Oh, well, thank you. >> So, how about you? >> I am a nurse. >> This is going to come in handy. >> Awesome. Nice find. Container one, >> spice jar. >> Great. >> My initial impressions, Debbie seems to be really fit, which I think is going to be quite helpful for this. Hopefully, she's willing to work as a team and do everything that we need to do to make Ourselves successful. This ground is slipping up, so
that's a good sign. Get us out of this swampy lowland. >> Yep. It's going to get dark soon. And if we had time to play around with trying to get that bow drill to go, that would be awesome. Being that it's so late today, my biggest concern for tonight is to get the uh mosquito net something to hang off of. >> Um it's going to be something we need to Talk about. Well, having a partner like Bo, I'm concerned that he's this alpha male personality and he's not going to listen to me. >> Okay, now
we're getting a lot of palm. This is good. >> So, do you want to be somewhere closer to the water? >> I'm thinking because of [music] daylight, we find a flat spot here shortly. This this maybe even has some Shelter potential right here. Like it's a readym made rest to stick the lattice across the top and then put on some of these uh the palm leaves. >> Yeah. Um >> for starters, maybe we we clear this out so we have a decent working space. >> All right. So >> I know that you have like an
idea in your head. You know what I mean? Like you're envisioning something and >> Yeah. So try like you know cross tie Like this so it creates a kind of support on itself. Grab some cordage and tie this one here. Thread this another one through here. Mhm. Watch. >> I'm going to sweep this by. >> Oh, sorry. >> All right. >> Looks pretty good. >> Uh, it's getting there. Tying the edges up so we can easily get under here and start putting our bedding down. >> We're going to need water. [music] You know, we'll probably
need fire to get that going. >> Unfortunately, there's no way we're going to have time to build a fire before it gets dark. So, that's just not on the menu for today. Uh, [laughter] >> we should start putting our bedding down. >> Yeah, I might like head back to like that giant tree just check things out Over there. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Absolutely. >> And I can put stuff in my satchel. I just kind of need to get away for a little bit. Obviously, we need fire and my partner was just telling
me this is what I'm going to do. and then he was doing it. My opinions weren't asked. I'm not the kind of person that's just going to complain and not talk to him About it. >> Are you all right? >> No. >> You know, I kind of like to talk about stuff together and I feel like I kind of forgot to ask my opinion. >> Yeah. Um >> it's just coming across a little bit like you would treat a person in the military. >> Yeah. Okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't ask your opinion up
front. >> I just want to make sure that you don't think I don't have ideas because I do. >> Yeah. No, it's cool. It's totally cool. >> Okay. >> I think the initial mistake I made in the rush to get the shelter up, I didn't really share my thoughts with her. I was being a boss instead of being [music] a partner. >> Um I'm really glad we got that straightened out right away. >> Yeah, me too. Holy crap, it's getting dark. >> Yeah, >> you lose an hour of daylight when you're in jungle that's this
thick. >> It's the end of day one. >> We got our mosquito net up. I'm not getting bitten by any bugs right now, so it's pretty comfortable. >> Stuff it. >> Yeah, me too. You're right. I'm constantly having to brush stuff out. Oh my gosh, look at these ants. These Ants are like they just came out of nowhere and they bite. Trust me, they freaking bite. >> We got to move shelter. >> Yeah. Oh, the flies are biting me, too. Last night was terrible. Even though we [music] had a mosquito net, little ants got in.
And there are these black flies that are just awful. You can see I have some bites on my shoulders. Um, and all over my face apparently as well. >> I I'm feeling dehydration right now. I Know >> we are dangerously low on fluids before we start doing a boatload that's manual labor. We have to correct that right away. We can't put a full force into effort in making shelter. We can't go really hard with the bow drill when you're this dehydrated. So, I think we got to get some water back in this. >> You wanted
to try the lake water? >> Yeah, we have no other option. I mean, right now there's there is no option. >> Um, we have to look out for the cayman. >> Either you deal with the cayman or you deal with the dehydration. So, uh you know, pick your poison. It's dry season right now, so there are no running streams uh feeding this lake. If we don't drink the water, we're going to get dehydrated and we're going to be cared out of here on a stretcher. What are those jumping? >> Oh. Oh my god. Let's get
out of here. Get out. Get out. >> My nightmare partner would be somebody that has no faith. Just always complaining. One of my biggest biggest pet peeves is laziness. I have dealt with lazy people throughout my life and I hope hope to the high heavens that my partner is not one of them. >> Hello. >> Hello. How's it going? >> I'm guessing you're my partner. >> Yeah, I fancy meeting you out here. >> Nicole. >> Nicole. Angel. Nice to meet you. >> Nice to meet you. Angel, where you from? >> I'm from Santa Cruz. How
about you? >> Santa Cruz. I'm from Boston, Mass. >> Boston, Massachusetts. Never been there. It's pretty >> when it's not snowing every single day. Yeah, it's it's pretty >> nice. Nice. Yeah. >> How are you with fire building? >> I'm all right. How about you? >> Pretty good. >> Yeah. No, you're good. I'm glad you're good. That's probably my worst, but um I don't think we'll have too much of a trouble with it. >> Yeah, we shouldn't have too much trouble. >> Yeah. >> So, we are here. >> If we find any of these two
creeks and just follow it down, we're going to be golden. Absolutely. >> Find a little paradise right in there. >> All right, >> let's do it. >> Only the way. Record temperatures and unprecedented lack of rain have led to Nicaragua's worst drought in 32 years. In search of water, [music] Angel and Nicole must hike five miles through dead brush and thorns as sharp as broken glass. >> Every step, just kind of watch out, man. We're in some hostile freaking Territory. I tell you that much. >> The jungle floor is the perfect hunting ground for two
of Nicaragua's most feared creatures. The massive redtailed boa and a species of tarantula the locals call pika cababayo or horse biter. So-called because of its ability to take down a horse with its flesh rotting venom. The severe drought has forced the wildlife into a cutthroat competition. Staking claim to the few remaining water sources is the jungle's Fiercest creature, the cayman. A deadly ambush predator equipped with 500 lb of bite force. Definitely got to watch out for some rattlesnakes. >> I'm not seeing nothing dangerous right now, which it's making me kind of happy. >> Oh, you
just Hold on. You okay? >> I just stepped on a thorn. Throwing star right in my foot. >> You get it out? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Wow. I'm bleeding. >> And these plants are not too hospitable, I tell you what. >> Yeah. How your feet holding up? Good. >> Yeah. Um, I went one year without shoes. >> Damn. God dang it. >> You okay? >> Ow. You not you. >> You need any help? >> Oh, God. Please hold that out. >> I'm coming up right now. >> First impressions of my partner. Well, I was
expecting maybe a little bit more rugged kind of person. I got your foot. Don't worry. >> Thanks for that. anytime. Just call me. I'll be there. >> I thought I was prepared enough with my feet. Um, but he spent a year without shoes. >> Who needs shoes? Dude, I need some water. I'm not kidding. >> Well, that almost looks like a flat like a reads on there. Here, that's a lake. >> Holy Angel. That's the lake. What the heck? >> We are. God, that water looks awful. >> That looks narnal for water. See a dead
fish, I think. No, not a good sign at all. Hey, Dad. See if there's any crocodiles or anything in there to piss off. See if anything moves. There's just tons of dead fish all over the floor right now. Not even the busarders ate these things. That just It's just kind of sketchy to me. Like if anything makes me tap out, poisonous water would be one of the only things that I could think of. I mean, or no water. All right, let's get a fire started so We can start purifying that. >> You want to you
want to start the fire? Get that going. We'll >> start working on a little shelter for tonight. >> Feel a little aggravated. I can't get the freaking fire started. It's all this spark and usually goes up like a match, but nope. >> You working on it still? >> Yeah. Now, I've had success doing this Before at home, but usually I have a little bit better of a fire starter than this one. I'm, you know, I'm a little worried, you know, like wonder if she could do it. I mean, I haven't got to talk to her
as much to see what her survival, you know, skills are, but um I'm going to find out. I guess >> I just want so bad to have a drink of water. >> Oh, look at that. Maybe this is our Fire. I don't know. Feels nice and dry. >> This is a great find. See if we can make this blow up. Get in here, please. >> Sorry. Still catching here. >> Here we go. This is what we need right here. >> All right. >> This is the magic. >> Hey, finally got fire. We got fire. Starting
to bubble a little bit. just give it as much as we could. That water is freaking nasty. >> Yeah, >> that thing's boiling green. Even with the fire, my confidence level in that water is way, way low. I haven't seen nothing wanting to drink this water. And that scared me. Like, what am I going to be putting into my body? >> We're going to give it a try. >> And if it doesn't work, then uh we're probably going to get pulled out of here. >> Hey. >> Hi. Yeah. How are you? >> Good. >> I'm
Wes. >> Jesse. >> Nice to see you. >> Nice to see you, too. >> It's been a long time coming. Yeah. [laughter] >> Are you excited? >> Yeah, I'm really excited. >> Awkward? >> No. I'm pretty comfortable being naked. Are you? >> I am, too. >> Okay, good. >> Yeah, this will work out just fine. >> Yeah. >> You look like a hippie. Are you a Hippie? >> I guess so. [laughter] >> When Wes asked me if I was a hippie, I didn't mind it too much. It's a question that I've gotten a lot. >>
Uh, we used to call them Earth Girls. I was a hippie. I had hair down to the middle of my back. I still have both ears pierced. >> Okay. So, what'd you bring? >> I brought my bow drill kit. I've had this bow for about 5 years. An extension Of my arm. >> I hope she can use it. She says she can, and it appears to be uh homemade. >> I feel confident that we'll get a fire quickly with this. >> Oh, fantastic. >> What did you bring? >> A little unorthodox, but I brought climbing
rope. Um, I chose the item because you can make 100 different things from this. >> Cool. It looks like we have a machete. >> Oh, awesome. >> I also have the map. So, I guess we're at the top of this waterfall. >> Okay. So, the valley here, >> everything in this valley feels super wet. And this over here is maybe a bit drier. >> But at the same time, looks like we got some major predators. >> I think if we can head into the palms, we can probably find shelter. I see a lot of resources
down there as well. But I tell you, as I'm looking down here, I'm noticing the clouds. It looks like rain is coming in quite soon. >> So, we should probably get going. >> You okay with that? >> Yeah, let's let's go. The plan right now is just to hightail it down into the valley where we saw a lot of resources and get our shelter set up as soon as possible. >> I'll follow you so we don't have any time to waste. Easy as you go. >> I think we should just get a little tinder packed
away before it rains. And I see some over there. So, do you mind if we >> No, let's do that. >> Run and get some. >> So, you're pretty good with that boat drill, huh? >> I've never quite done it under pressure like this situation, but I have probably Made a couple hundred coals at this point. Oh wow. Jesse seems great. She's got a lot of energy. She's young though. I suspect she's a little impatient, but when I was her age, I was impatient, too. And who knows, I might still be. >> This kind of
grass makes me a little bit worried about stepping on a snake. >> Snakes and stuff. >> Yeah. >> Over 60 types of snakes can be found in This sorado, including the highly venomous coral snake. It looks like such a steep drop off. Just be careful. I'll be right behind you. If you see something you don't feel comfortable with, just stop. Okay. >> Okay. Just watch out cuz this looks like rock, but it's really loose sandstone. Watch out. >> All right. You're clearing a good path. >> I'm sure you already know this, but when you like
are descending, don't [music] Rely too much on trees and stuff cuz they can like give out on you. And >> thank you. Jesse's skill set seems pretty strong. I like somebody who's aware of their environment. >> I'm sure you know that. >> No, it's all good. It's all good. She's very smart, very observant. I'm very excited to work with her while we have this vantage point. I think we've got a we've got to pick a spot, even if it's not perfect. >> Yeah. >> And make it happen. >> How much daylight do you think we
have left? >> We don't have very long before the night starts settling in. And you know what? The lower we get, just the wetter it gets from the rainy season. See this big scraggly tree over here? >> Yeah. >> You want to lean to that? >> Sounds good. >> All right. >> Everything in this valley feels super wet. >> I don't think there's a dry spot in this canyon. But I really don't see a whole lot of other options. There's no way we're going to get through this night without rain and with the temperatures dropping
with the rain. It's going to be a cold night if we don't get something going here. Tell you what I'll do is I'll work on the structure part. >> Okay. I'm going to go get [music] some palms. >> All right. My partnership with Jesse is going well. >> I'm feeling really optimistic about our partnership. Wes seems like super respectful. >> I know she's got some experience. I wonder really how much. But hey, she's down there whacking palm leaves trying to get us stuff for a roof. I know I shouldn't be in a panic and I'm
trying To keep myself calm, but I know we have limited time. I'll deal with water tomorrow. I really um hope we picked a good shelter location. I think there's a chance that if it rains, we're going to get flooded. Ow. Holy. >> What happened? >> I just I got stung, but I'm good. Just I think we should just keep building the shelter. >> Are you sure? >> Yep. The toxic sting of the Brazilian wasp can cause swelling, vomiting, and in some cases, anaphylactic shock. >> Got stung in the eye. I don't want to worry, Wes,
unless there's a reason to worry. But I'm wondering if my eyelid's going to swell up. I think these tiny little wasps are what stung me on the eyelid, but they seem like they've calmed down now. As long as I don't try and cut the palm they're on, I think We're good. Ow. Okay. Not gonna cut any more there. Oh, that one got me good. I need to get more palms for the thatching. Even if my lip really hurts. She's tough as nails. She's taken two stings already. And other than a little yip, she hasn't complained
one damn time. Oh, wow. Awesome. It's a timeconsuming process building a decent shelter. And Then you don't know how decent it is until it starts raining. This camp spot, I'm not a fan of it at all. This is, I think, what we had to choose for tonight. But as far as a permanent location, yeah, I think we'll be pushing on tomorrow. It's all about the first 24 hours. You got to have a decent first night. >> I mean, it's not raining, so that's something. >> Hey, guess what's happening? >> What? >> It's raining. >> I'm
not lying. >> [music] >> I'm so nervous. >> Hello. >> So, I'm not the only crazy one out here, huh? >> No, not at all. How are you? >> Pleasure to meet you. >> Joe. >> Joe. Sam, how are you? Like, >> I am just >> mind blown. [clears throat] Doesn't feel real, does it? >> Not yet, at least. I'm just so thrilled to stack. So you see I'm not the only nut actor out here, [laughter] >> right? It's good to know that there's other crazy people in the world. >> Uh looking at a naked
guy for the first time, not so bad. Just don't look below the necklace. It's a quick transition from Necklace to penis. So just don't just necklace is it. >> You ready for this? >> Are you? Let's do this. >> Let's kill it. Sam has brought a knife and Joe has brought a fire starter and they have been given a pot as the elevation and extreme temperature changes make dehydration a serious risk. >> So I got the map. >> Excellent. Oh, what do we got? >> All right, so >> uhoh, we got bears. Definitely. >> Bear,
snake, elk, moose. Looks like this is about where we are. >> All right, we definitely got to get to water. We know that. Look, there's a game trail. Why don't we take that down? You know, >> 100%. Let's rock this. >> All right, let's do it. [music] >> Oh, check it out. Got some fresh scat. >> Good eye. >> Maybe a mule deer or elk. >> Yeah. >> Any experience like uh hunting or tracking? >> Uh tracking and trapping. What about yourself? >> I'm right there with you. >> This sun is a killer. Very unexpected
coming out here. How radical temperature changes >> it is. Oh, look at this. >> Oh, hell. >> That looks like bear to me. >> Oh, lord. >> Like you can actually see like the fingers. >> Oh, check it out. Yeah, we got bears here. That is fresh. >> This [sighs and gasps] sucks. A grizzly. I mean, you can only do so much. So, you know, just lay down and pray it doesn't tear your insides open. Yay, bears. >> [music] >> How you feel about getting uh some kind of force protection? That tree that you just
had your hand on? >> You want to go ahead and hack that down? >> We could probably fashion a spear fairly quickly. >> All right. I don't think I could have possibly asked for a better partner than what I've gotten. You know, Sam is incredibly knowledgeable. Um she's great Personality. I think it's a really excellent pairing. >> I feel like we're going to make a really good team. >> I feel good about this. >> Right. My partner is amped to be out here, which is awesome. He's like a kid in a candy [music] store. >>
I'll be damn ripe juniper berries. >> And if you've ever seen a kid in a candy store, they get distracted pretty easily. >> I know we're in a hurry here, so I'm going to be quick. >> Oh man, we're losing a lot of light. We got a shelter to make, a fire to make, water to drink. >> You're telling a fat guy to give up food. [laughter] >> I love his attitude, [music] though. It's going to be good. >> Hey, you know, Sam, at any time if you think I'm being a little uh pushy or
whatnot, just please speak up, you know? >> Oh, 100%. Don't worry. I am like that person. >> Excellent. >> And uh same to you cuz I I can be pretty intense. >> I'm sweating buckets out here. I can't wait to get something to drink. >> We definitely need to get that water before one of us gets uh dehydrated. What the front door? It's funny trying to get ready for this. I could do hunger. I could do thirst. I Didn't anticipate pain. >> Really? >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> Oh, is that what I think it is?
>> It is. [laughter] Oh. >> Oh, yay. >> I have never been so happy to see water. >> All right, I'm going to go for it. You think I usually definitely love to sterilize something before I drink it. >> Seeing her choosing to drink directly from the water source, I got a lot of reservations here. >> I've drank some pretty gnarly tap water in third world countries. So, I just feel like this beautiful creek uh doesn't really pose a threat to me. >> You know what? Success or fail, we'll do it as a team. Well,
if you want to put some in it, there are some right there. >> Is a lychen rich in antimicrobial Properties that can aid in purifying water. >> Now, if this water ends up not being any good, I could come down to the real word of hurt real quick. But I was already feeling dehydration coming on. [sighs] I took a chance. We're going to boil from here on out. We're running out of daylight fast. What about right here? >> Why don't we hack off some of the bottom layers there? Kind of reinforce what's Above us and
around us. It would almost like emulate like a Bulma. >> Yeah. >> All right, >> let's do this. >> So, this shelter is called a hurry the up and get it built before the sun goes down and you freeze and get eaten by bears shelter. That's the technical [music] name. >> You are something else, kiddo. Does that look like coyote to you? It's Got hair in it, so it's a carnivore. You know what? This fire is going to be a little bigger than I had intentionally intended. I have a feeling though, it's not going to
be too difficult to get a fire out here. It's so dry. Of all the fires I've made, this is going to be the first one I've actually had to depend on for survival. >> Oh, yeah. It definitely is a little bit more real life. Nothing. Damn. This is certainly a lot more difficult than I thought it was going to be. >> I can't figure out what in the world I'm doing wrong. >> Well, this is soaked. >> You think? >> Oh, yeah. >> It crumbled really easily. >> Feel it up there. >> I think we're
going to need a better Actual tinder bundle. As far as our skill sets go, I am concerned. Joe is struggling with the fire. All right. I'm gonna go exploring for a tender bundle. >> All right. >> Without a fire, we will die. So, we need a fire. This is the baby tinder bundle. So, hopefully it works. >> That is beautiful. [sighs] Here we go. Come on. Fire. >> You would a fire queen. >> High five, dude. We freaking did it. Oh, this is just awesome. This is so close to boiling. Having talked about how close
we're going to sleep together, I will cuddle the out of anything warm. I don't really care what's attached. It doesn't matter. >> This is survival. There's nothing sexual about this. >> That wind, I can feel it. I am absolutely freezing >> from being in the '9s today and a little sunburnt. This is making that all the more unpleasant. >> Yeah, let's try laying down. >> Need to get very close. >> Whatever you need. >> Oh my god, I'm so cold. It's so cold. >> All I can do is shiver. This is horrible. >> We did
not sleep at all. The ground was cold. The wind was cutting through our Shelter. Most gold star lesbians have never seen a man naked, let alone snuggled all throughout the night, shivering together. So, I wonder if it like demotes me to a silver star. We're going to work together to try to insulate all the heat so that the fire is a little bit more contained. And then cover the ground with grass so that we don't freeze. >> Hey Sam, I need a minute. I feel sick. >> Are you okay? >> I I just got really
dizzy all of a sudden. [clears throat] >> Do you need water? [music] >> Are you okay? >> I am really feeling nauseous here all of a sudden. [snorts] >> Probably dehydration or dysenteria [music] from the unprocessed water. It's one of the two. Something's up. Okay. >> Oh, no. >> Wait. >> Hi. >> You're not a woman. >> No, neither are you. >> You're a Canadian. >> How are you doing? >> What's going on? >> Good. Chris, >> I recognize him. I like I know this guy from his challenge. >> From what I recall in his
challenge, he was a really nice guy. You're out here for redemption. >> I am. And I think you are, too. >> I am. I am. >> This is nuts. >> This is crazy. I've I've been in this area before. This is my last challenge was not too far away. So, I have a little bit a little bit of experience I hope will help us. >> That is outstanding. Cuz I don't I was In the desert of northern Mexico. My last challenge. >> Very different. Very different. But I want to make sure that you and I
are in that that same place. Like it doesn't matter. We're finishing this. No more whatifs. >> I completely agree that. >> Hell yeah. We got this. >> Yeah, absolutely. >> Definitely not what I was expecting. I've never seen a male male dual Redemption. This is going to be one hell of an experience. >> Okay, >> my buddies. >> Yeah, let's go. >> I think I see our bags up over there. Look. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Let's go. >> Well, that was kind of a surprise. I uh just my brain thought a woman and it's
definitely not. The good thing about him Having done a challenge before like me, he's not a newbie who has no idea how hard this actually gets. I hope that we can quickly become brothers out here and uh make sure that we fight it out to the very end. >> It's good to get a bag again. It is. >> Each teammate brought a personal survival item. Andrew has a bow and arrow set while Chris brought a large knife. They've also been given a fire starter and a pot to purify water. I Have the map. All right.
>> Oh, man. This is us. Look at this river. >> That is a fantastic score. And if we follow the water, >> we'll be okay. >> Yeah. >> Lead the way. You've been here before. I haven't. >> Oh, that's dangerous. >> Looks like this is my stop. Here we go. Welcome to the savannah. >> Here I go getting naked again. >> Let's do this. There's definitely a lot of thorns in Africa. That's for sure. Woo. Things poking you in all sorts of places you shouldn't be poked. I did the challenge uh my first time in
Brazil. Overworking myself in such a short period of time is what led to my medical tapout. >> Your back is directly in the sun. >> I had Suzan [music] as my partner. >> Yeah, that's not going to happen. That is not going to happen. >> If we'd been able to work more as a team, I would have worked less. >> Wow. Anthony, >> your vitals are. >> They told me that I had sweated out all of the essential minerals, electrolytes, and had to take me out. >> I learned that if you get a partner that
you can't work with, you're not on the same page, you're destined to fail. I'm Not a lazy man approach. [music] So, I don't want a partner that wants to sit down on their asses and do nothing. Anthony has a vigorous mindset, but pushing himself too hard, too fast could lead to another downfall. Anthony has been given a PSR of 5.8. So, my challenge was brutally cold, 8,000 ft elevation way up in the Rocky Mountains. My partner was tapped on day two and about day eight or nine, a huge storm rolled in. Miserable. When the medic
tapped me, I was working on stage two hypothermia. >> This is it. This is the end of the road for this challenge. >> TRIED SO HARD. >> I do feel like I got a bit robbed of my opportunity in my last challenge. >> I've been though putting a lot of practice into my fireb building skills. I'm ready to do this challenge again and I'm not quitting. Dany has gained Valuable experience since his last challenge, but he has never been tested by the endless dangers of South Africa. Danny begins with a PSR of 7.0. >> How
you doing? I'm good. I'm a little surprised. How you doing? I'm Danny. Danny. I'm Anthony. Anthony, pleasure to meet you. Nice to meet you. It starts off odd right away like ah this is the first time I've been uh really hanging out naked in front of another guy, You know, like what he even say. So um yeah. Um welcome to Africa. >> Yeah, no kidding, right? >> And yeah, I was expecting a girl. Um, I ended up with a dude, which, you know, that's great. Works for me. I think, uh, having a little extra muscle
on the team will be a good thing. >> Is this your first time or? >> No. Second challenge. >> Okay. Yeah, me too. >> I'm here for redemption. >> Yeah, same thing. >> Awesome. All right. So, we got we got a stake in this. >> Absolutely. I got your back. If you got mine, we'll make sure we get through this. >> Hell yeah, brother. Let's do this. All right, man. Let's check out the backs. >> Yeah. Let's see what we've got. [music] For their personal survival items, Danny brought along a primitive Fishing kit, while Anthony
has a half-handled axe. They have also been given a fire starter and water pot. And so, we're about here. Got a long hike straight to the water. >> So, we want to head west [music] southwest. >> We're going to have to hustle cuz we've got a shelter to build and a lot of firewood to collect for these long nights, man. >> Oh, yes, we do. Let's do this thing. >> All right. It's gotten really, really hot. It has. The sweat is starting to pour. And tell a lot of times of the year, this whole thing
is underwater. >> Yeah. You could absolutely tell it's the dry season out here right now. >> Yeah. >> Is that what I think it is up over there? >> That's some big poop. Oh, it's that's still wet. >> Just looking at this and the size and kind of where we are, I'm thinking this is elephant. Oh yeah, they kill a lot of people out here. So, we got to keep our head on a swivel. >> Well, it makes me wonder, this river is so dry. Where are they now? >> Probably the same place we're going.
>> We're going to fight for the same water. >> Yeah. >> Chris and Andrew are trekking 3 and 1/2 miles north, where the water sources are Populated by hyenas, spitting cobras, and six-tonon elephants, which can crush their enemies under monstrous feet or gore them with piercing tusks. I'm seeing a lot of rocks. That is water right there. >> Water. That's a lot of water. Woo. This is what we need for everything. I don't know what's in this water, but could be crocodile. But if we go up just a little bit somewhere where the water's still
accessible. What about right here? It already has a lot of real good protection here with the trees itself >> and thorns. Put thorns here. >> Thorns everywhere. >> Well, let's get to work. >> All right, here we go. >> We're going to build a bulma out here, which is basically just a big corral, big walls of thorn trees. Cuz a lot of the big predators, the big cats, they are very sensitive on their nose and Their whiskers. They can't push their faces through that thorn to eat us. I do not miss the feel of things
with spikes running into my skin. Nothing like a little blood to get us ready for all this. I'm getting the wild man out of me. [groaning] It's coming together real nice. >> Home sweet Bulma. Yeah, sun's brutal. >> Yeah, even in the winter. [music] >> Yeah, I'm a pasty Irishman. Me and the sun are not necessarily friends. The sun is what led to my tap out. I sweated out all of the minerals that you have in your body. Zinc, iron, magnesium, all gone. That's never going to happen again. And we've been walking for a while.
Hopefully end is near. >> Danny and Anthony have been trekking three and a half miles south over piercing terrain to the nearest water Source. The dense bush hides lions and hippos. Although both charge at high speeds and have razor sharp teeth, hippos actually kill over 20 times more people than lions, making them the deadliest large land animal on the planet. >> Look at this. I think that's our water. >> I love seeing water, but I know there's also going to be a lot of animals coming down just as excited as we are. >> Yeah. >>
So, uh I don't care to hang out with a hippo. >> Yeah. We should be on the downwind side of this pond where we make our shelter. [music] I think we've got a clearing right here. Let's choose this. This is where I can see it happening. We got a natural barrier there. So, we close off the other side and we'd be all right. >> All right. Well, let's get started, man. >> Here we go. Cool. >> Danny, see a snake head towards the bush run into a puff adder. Those are pretty dangerous snakes. One of
those gets hold of you, that's end of challenge. Your stick's right at it. You got him. I see his Hold on. You see him? His head's facing me. It's right here. Straight down. All right, I'm going to cut back behind the gland. Here we go. He's a small one, but we got something. It's not much, but there you go. >> It's beautiful. >> Yeah. >> Get nice and stinky. Catfish love that stuff. >> There's our best chances of getting something big. >> If I can [music] triple my meat just by using it as fish bait,
that's the route I'm going to do. >> Okay, we've got to get a shelter built. Daylight, it's going fast. Two. One. >> We're doing it. Two. Two. Yeah. >> This is a totally different team experience from my last challenge. >> I was worried that I would get another partner that felt like, you know, oil and water. But we're going to be able to get along and uh work together. And that type of teamwork breed success. >> Whoa. Gotcha. >> Well, that's one hell of a door. >> Yeah. They're not getting through that. All right, let's
get a fire going. I was tapped out for hypothermia due to the extreme cold. The nights are long. It may get cold and that could be absolutely devastating. >> Big fire at night to keep the animals away, keep the cold away is going to be key. Oh, there we go. There's the magic. Here we go. Danny, the king of fire. >> Got our Bulma. We got our fire. We got our wall. >> Nice. >> Day one, baby. We have fire. We got water that we just collected. We have our bulma somewhat set. Not bad for
the first day. >> I forgotten how amazing dirt gritty water is. >> Let's see how gross. >> This should be a candle for your house. >> Yes. >> M. Is that Is that boiling dirt water? >> African. >> That's my favorite. I know. I know. That's why I got it. >> Yeah. >> I would like for you to describe to me how that feels. >> That isn't all that bad. [laughter] >> In vineyard talk, it has legs. >> It's really neat that both Chris and I are are reaching for this kind of the Same goal,
this 21-day redemption, cuz we both know what it feels like to come short. And so, I think that motivates us to work together. And and I mean, we're just cutting up, laughing a lot. And when you have cuts all over your body and you're bleeding, that humor is an incredible survival tool. Day one always scares me the most. And it's almost over. So, >> it is. That feels good. >> I agree. I agree. We just got to keep up This momentum. >> Yeah. >> Cuz we know that if we don't, it goes downhill real quick.
>> Yeah.
