Ultra Instinct Goku versus Beast Gohan was one of the most heated moments I've seen in the Drgon Ball fandom. And it's still debated to this day. Who really came out on top?
But by the time their sparring match had officially ended, it was Goku who called it and decided that this was enough. But does this forfeit really mean a loss? Did Beast Gohan really win even though outside of being briefly overpowered, things were generally even?
Well, depending on who you ask, but I would generally say no. Beast Gohan didn't just outright beat Goku, man. Enough time has passed, so let's really talk about it and get into it.
This entire sparring match was a back and forth where one tested the other and their own limits consecutively almost. The unstoppable force versus the immovable object. It's really impressive how not even in full power, Beast Gohan was able to more or less keep up with Ultra Instinct.
But when he finally went near max power, he was able to not only bypass the speed and dodging capabilities of Ultra Instinct, he was able to knock Goku out of it briefly, which definitely came as a surprise to Goku. This is the moment a lot of us went crazy, and some people were even saying, "It's over and Gohan won right here. " But of course, Goku popped right back up and asked him just how he managed to do that.
Gohan would go on to explain that he raised his power to the point of nearly going berserk but maintained control. But this of course couldn't stop Goku and he recovers immediately, transforms back into Master Ultra Instinct and got back into the fight. He also shifts his focus to Broly slightly during the fight after noticing how intense he was watching and ends the fight himself.
He then states to Vegeta that winning against Gohan was never his intention. He just wanted to see his new power firsthand. And even Toyotara would come out and address the strength of everyone involved in a recent interview, letting us know that Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Broly, and Piccolo are a lot closer than we think.
