- Well you know, when you think about happiness and having your happiest life and then your happiness at work, I mean, one reason that work matters a lot is you spend a lot of time at work. And like a big part of most peoples day is spent doing their work. And so if you're not happy at work, it's hard to be happy.
And also, work and at home I think for everyone, it's becoming more and more intertwined. We don't have that feeling of like, oh my gosh it's 5:00 p. m.
, I'm gonna put down my briefcase and be finished for the day. We're sort of always in work and then home you might be buying something online during your lunch hour. So these boundaries are not clear.
And I think that for us to be our happiest at work and at home, we have to really think through that. Like, do I need to give myself specific slots of time when I am off duty, when I don't check my phone, when I don't feel like I should be doing work. When I'm at work am I gonna close my door and for three hours be unavailable to anybody who's not associated with this one big project that I have.
And so, part of it is focus, part of it is, I think, using your time. One thing that works for a lot of people is actually scheduling things. It's not like, oh, I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow, it's like I'm going to go to the gym at 10:00 a.
m. , whether that's on a Friday or that's on a Saturday. Like when exactly do you want certain things to happen.
And when you do that, the advantage is, then you see that there's not time for everything. There's only time for the things that are the most important. And so some things will fall away.
And that probably what you need to have happen if you want to have a happy home life and a happy work life.
