And the third systemic law or force of love is—we’ve already touched upon it—the law of hierarchy or order, which horses also have within the dynamics of the herd. But we’ll get to the horses soon. Order has to do with precedence in time, meaning those who come first receive less, and by receiving less, they are greater.
If we look at human history, let's say from what we have in historical records, times were harder back then, right? Let’s not go too far back. 2,000 years ago, it was normal to crucify someone for speaking of love or for living more freely, even if they didn’t harm anyone.
500 years ago, it was normal to put two people to fight in an arena until one killed the other, right? Under a king's decision. And much closer, 200, a hundred years ago, it was normal to enslave people because of where they were born or the color of their skin.
Not that these dynamics don't happen, but at least it's no longer considered normal. So, we can agree on one point, that these are easier times, right? And furthermore, because of everything humanity has learned and developed as technological resources in recent years.
So, today, times have been easier than in previous eras. Therefore, today, we who came later receive more than those who came before. This is also true when we look at our family system.
So, older siblings receive less from their parents. Understand this as receiving less on a soul level. It’s not about receiving less materially; it’s not about my father paying for college for her and not for me.
I am the youngest of four brothers and was the only one who didn't finish a degree paid for by my parents. In other words, theoretically, in terms of material things, I received less, but I recognize that I received more because younger children arrive in a family environment that already knows how to be a family, coming to the souls of parents who already practiced being parents with the older siblings. Ultimately, younger siblings receive from both their parents and their older siblings.
In the same way, a relationship that comes after a relationship that precedes it becomes a smaller relationship. Smaller in what sense? Smaller in the sense of order.
Generally, our first love is our great love, right? And the loves that come after are loves that receive from what we learned with our first love. Again, looking at the law of balance, the extent to which I do not honor what I received in my first relationship is the extent to which I will deposit this emotional lack into subsequent relationships, right?
So, order has to do with precedence in time. Whoever comes first is greater. Parents are greater than their children.
Grandparents are greater than parents. Great-grandparents are greater than grandparents. Older siblings are greater than younger siblings.
Greater in terms of time, not in level of bond, because bonds are measured by the level of guilt we feel when leaving relationships. So, the bond may even be greater, but the loves that come later receive something from the previous loves. That is why previous loves are greater.
This is the law of hierarchy. M.
