No WNBA Duo Is As Hilarious As Caitlin Clark & Sophie Cunningham

It's a big trend going on. She has the vision to find her teammates defending her. You are in constant contradiction with yourself when you're guarding Caitlyn Clark.

She also has to sit there like she can't hear us. Nobody turns a WNBA moment into a comedy sketch like Caitlyn Clark and Sophie Cunningham. They'll let everyone else carry on.

wait for the perfect opening and then one comment, one look or one completely unhinged reaction can derail the entire moment. Somehow when these two are together, you never quite know who's going to make the first move or who's going to lose it laughing. Sorry, [music] she forgets I have a broken leg.

Sorry. Wow, this is so special. Wow, this is fun.

When it comes to these two, things can quickly get crazy. Caitlyn has a talent for finding the funny in almost anything. Sophie has a talent for making sure it never stops there.

Put them together and even the most ordinary moment can take a hard left into complete chaos. That's when the real entertainment begins. Yet, Caitlyn Clark doesn't need much time to turn a normal moment into something people will remember.

But every once in a while, she lands a joke so perfectly timed that it feels less like a comment and more like a carefully planned attack. This was one of those moments. But I did write some jokes and it would mean a lot to me if you read some of them.

Just write over there on the cards. Well, [cheering] [applause] The Indiana Fever have the first pick in this Monday's draft. A reminder that Indiana Fever is a WNBA team and not what Michael Chick gave to dozens of women at Purdue University.

[applause] See, now that's [cheering] a good joke about women. [applause] Try another one. But if Caitlyn can create chaos with one sentence, Sophie Cunningham has apparently figured out how to do it without even being invited into the conversation.

During Kelsey Mitchell's interview, Sophie suddenly appeared out of nowhere, completely changing the energy of the moment. Um, need we uh need to defend on both ends of the floor. And I think for us, once we can, you know, stop teams and get what we want in transition, we can do [laughter] ourselves.

Hey, and Sophie Cunningham hitting threes in transition, that also helps big time. And that is exactly where this duo gets dangerous. Caitlyn can derail a moment with a joke.

Sophie can derail one simply by showing up. But words aren't always Caitlyn's weakness. Sometimes all it takes is the right little distraction and suddenly the composure is gone.

Sophie, meanwhile, has a completely different problem when the cameras come on. Put these two in front of something they can't ignore, and things tend to get interesting very quickly. How am I supposed to follow that today?

The real trouble starts when they're given a microphone together, put Caitlyn and Sophie beside coach Stephanie White, and suddenly a routine postgame interview starts looking suspiciously like a comedy sketch. to be the aggressor and bring the energy up. But when they already have it, you just got to, you know, slide right in and and and don't let the game fall out or fall drop.

Holy stuff of incredible people that work in this organization. Good donuts. Good donuts.

Yeah, good donuts. Um, you know, and and it it it's it's heartbreaking, you know, for the tribe and it's heartbreaking for this area, but I do think that the New England area and the New England basketball fans um deserve a team. You've been an elite player for a long time.

Turns out comedy isn't their only shared talent. When the music starts, Caitlyn has her own way of making things complicated. Sophie, on the other hand, has discovered that one particular ball may be asking a little too much of her.

I should really just not do any sports. We all know Caitlyn and Sophie are a perfect combo when it comes to basketball, but take them out of their comfort zone, give them a completely different game, and suddenly that chemistry takes a very different turn. Let's go.

[screaming and cheering] Oh. [laughter] Caitlyn has a way of getting completely outplayed by her youngest fans. Sophie, meanwhile, has discovered a very different way to catch people off guard.

Put these two in their natural environments, and you never really know what's coming next. Wait, you want to play a one v one? I think you're going to win.

She's also one of our mentors. So Sherry Okay. [laughter] And Caitlyn decided to take over the coach's job for a moment.

Sophie, on the other hand, went in a completely different direction. And somehow that choice made things even more interesting. We're down 15.

Are you kidding me? I didn't even know that. All right, heat up.

We're only down 20. Heat up. Heat up now.

Here we go. cutting [cheering] it. Somewhere between Caitlyn forgetting what this creature was called and Sophie wishing it had never crossed her path, one animal became their unexpected common enemy.

Now I know at where they talk to the animal. So what do you what does he look like? I am a dog lover.

Animal lover through and through. Like love animals more than I love people. But I think Chihuahua are maybe the worst creation that God ever invented.

They're rats and they're annoying. And when Caitlyn traded the hardwood for the golf course, Sophie decided she was suddenly the perfect teammate for the job. Whether Caitlyn actually needed that kind of support is another question entirely.

Some mistakes deserve a correction. This one apparently deserved a punchline and Caitlyn was more than happy to provide it. You know what?

I I really don't care. I I really don't care anymore. I'm trying to keep the main thing the main thing.

I think we played an excellent game today uh against the Fever or shoot against the Liberty. Um we we played oursel Sophie. We won.

Somewhere along the way, protecting Caitlyn became a full-time job. And one moment turned Sophie into the internet's unofficial enforcer. What started on the court ended with a pointing meme nobody saw coming.

You made headlines all over the world. Got a photo of it here with this moment. [cheering] It's so great.

I love this so much. So, can you tell us what happened? Honestly, I just am a little sassy sometimes.

I have mastered at like getting in people's heads. Like I've just mastered and I think that's game within the game. First of all, what actually happened though, someone got called.

Caitlin got called for a technical and both of them should have had a technical. And so I just went up to the ref and I was like I was like, "Shouldn't she get a technical too? " And she was like, "Well, don't you bleep point at me.

" And I was like, "Oh, shouldn't have said that. " And then that's where you got that. For all the chaos they create together, their lives away from the court couldn't be more different.

One is happiest at home, locked into a game, and completely in her own world. The other seems built for the spotlight, turning every appearance into another opportunity to make noise. [cheering] Ladies and gentlemen, my friend, America's sweetheart.
