If someone have problem with Sophie, they can come and talk to me. I will pay for security if they come forward. The WNBA is about to have the biggest problem it's seen in years.
Sophie Cunningham went on her podcast and called out AA Wilson by name after the fan incident. She told Wilson to grow up, compared AA's treatment in the WNBA to how the NBA coddles LeBron. Then she went further and said she should probably be the next commissioner.
And the entire WNBA and its media turned on her overnight. for the white white players in the league. When you don't say and and even worse, when you say things that are harmful, you talking about the trans nobody respects you.
Shut the up. Shut the up. And when the NBA legends found out what the haters did to her just for telling the truth, every single one of them had her back.
And I don't mean the smaller guys. I'm talking about NBA legends like Shaq, Magic, KG, MJ. And that's not even all of them.
And the reason one of these legends reacted the way he did will genuinely stop you cold because he spent his entire career on the wrong side of the exact double standard Sophie just called out. And that's no other person than Shaq. People close to his circle confirmed that when the whole Sophie situation came up, Shaq didn't waste any time.
He said this. She said what needed to be said. You ask for equality.
You ask to be treated like professionals. And then the league protects one player from the rules it applies to everybody else. Sophie saw it.
She said it. That takes guts. Now, why does that statement matter?
Well, because Shaq spent his entire career on the wrong side of the same garbage Sophie just exposed. There was a whole unwritten Shaq foul rule back in the day. Everyone knew it, but nobody said it out loud.
Back in the day, anytime Shaq backed someone down in the post, he got an offensive foul. But somehow, if Kobe or MJ did something even way more aggressive, suddenly it becomes, "Oh, that's just basketball. " He had to watch MJ get phantom touch calls while officials whistled him for less.
He lived with that double standard for almost 20 years. So, he recognized the WNBA version the second Sophie brought it up. And what Sophie said on the podcast on October 3rd was not subtle at all.
And then we're going to go for him for just pointing saying that you fouled. Like, grow up. What What are we doing?
Like, we ask all these things and then once people come out and support us, we get mad. Then she straight up said Wilson should have been suspended after that incident with the fan and called her the LeBron of the league, meaning obviously they aren't suspending her. It's inappropriate and then us athletes need to be um treated better and these fans need to be more supportive and not say anything negative.
Then she dropped the real bomb and named it the AA whistle, which was her calling out the biased officiating calls. Aa gets a tickytac foul, the Asia whistle. And it's crazy because even Caitlyn Clark has also been talking about this all year without mentioning any names.
But Sophie got right up to the mic and put her name on it with zero hesitation. And man, the WNBA media went completely wild. Fans called her a hypocrite and the usual haters showed up right on schedule with extra energy this time.
But here is where it gets genuinely wild because the next legend to react doesn't just have opinions about the WNBA. He has an actual franchise. Grant Hill literally co-owns the Detroit WNBA team and does TV analysis for NBC.
He's got his real money, his name, and his entire reputation wrapped up in the exact league that just spent a week trying to cancel Sophie Cunningham for speaking facts. So, when word got out that Hill actually had thoughts on this, people paid attention fast. According to league reporters and insiders, he said, "The WNBA finally has someone willing to say what the fans are thinking, and instead of listening to her, the league attacked her for it.
You want a commissioner who talks to Adam Silver? She already does. That last part isn't a joke.
Sophie didn't just joke about being commissioner. [snorts] Back on September 11th on her podcast, she said this. If you were the commissioner, which I know you have no interest in being, like what would you step in and change or do to make the W even better?
Honestly, the more I think about that, I think I should be the commissioner. I think I could I think I could get this on the right track. And then ESPN reported on September 16th that she had actually spoken to Adam Silver multiple times through her agents who have a close relationship with him.
She went to the press and said this. Um my second thing is I I I really do think that you need um a commissioner who is players first, who wants a relationship with their players. I think that's so important.
In fact, one of the top sports commentators and journalists, Klay Travis, even posted that Sophie should be commissioner because she actually understands how to grow the sport and she just makes sense. Sophie Cunningham should be the commissioner of the WNBA because [music] she just makes sense. So Grant Hill is sitting there watching the league he put millions into trying to silence the only player talking actual sense.
He sees what's happening. She isn't being chaotic. She's just being the boss they're too afraid to hire.
But if Hill's angle is about business, the image side of things is even wilder because what you are about to see is the most embarrassing the league has seen in a long while. And honestly, it's insane. So, here is what happened at a Dram Mystics playoff game recently.
The arena camera caught Sydney Coulson and Terresa Playance. Yes, the same two women who also confronted fans the same night as Aza Wilson on the stadium jumbotron doing a scissoring gesture at each other. Coulson did it alone first and then she reached over to playance and they did it together on the jumbotron at a family sports event in front of children.
Online people were completely disgusted and that's me just putting it nicely. Now here's where Sophie comes in. Earlier this season, she went on record literally begging fans to stop throwing adult toys onto the court.
She wanted the sport to look legit. She put her face on it and asked for basic respect. Then an actual toy hit her midame, making the whole thing a mess.
Sophie was out here fighting for basic professionalism while the players the league protects were doing explicit gestures on big screens in front of children. Those are the players getting a pass. The league stays dead silent on them.
But somehow Sophie is the one that's combustible just because she's been trying to save the league's reputation from the inside for 2 years. Magic's $350 million relies on this sport looking professional. And Sophie's the only one defending that standard.
while the league lets others destroy it. People close to Magic confirmed what he said after seeing the full video of Coulson and Playance. Sophie is protecting what I invested in.
She's the one saying out loud that this league has to be better than this. The people attacking her for it are the problem, not her. The more we keep allowing this happen, the worse things will get.
And speaking of people protecting certain players while attacking others, the WNBA fined Sophie three times this year for telling the truth on her podcast. Three times. George Gervin heard about that and had three words that summed up the entire situation better than anything else in this entire video.
Gerven heard about the fine count and a reporter who was around him when he saw it said he shook his head and said they find her three times for telling the truth and didn't find the people doing things on the jumbotron that I can't even describe. That's not a league protecting its integrity. That's a league protecting certain people.
George Gervin built his whole legacy on staying ice cold under pressure. The bigger the moment, the more locked in he got. So, the pressure Sophie's dealing with right now is something the Iceman recognizes instantly because it's pure corporate bullying.
Sophie has been fined three times for things she said on her own podcast. Twice for criticizing officiating and once for talking about Paige bucherers. They literally docked her pay three times for using her voice to say things everyone knew were true.
Then, when she called out the fan situation, the media labeled her out of control. Meanwhile, the same league finding her over stuff she said in her own privacy stays completely silent when players do explicit stuff on an arena jumbotron in front of kids. Yeah, it's obvious what's happening.
Everyone is just too scared to talk about it. However, the next reaction is a completely different vibe because before Sophie even dropped that podcast, she had already gone viral for something that Clyde Drxler called one of the most brilliant moves he had seen from a player all year. So, literally 2 days before Sophie even dropped that podcast, before any of these retired legends even opened their mouths, she posted this Tik Tok that completely broke the internet.
And when I say it broke the internet, I am not exaggerating. In the post, she was just casually lounging in front of a mirror, sipping her morning drink. And in the caption, she wrote, "Not trying to be dramatic at all.
Like, seriously, I was just here having my morning coffee and what a damn comeback year for the point. Who would have ever thought? Just who would have ever thought?
" Then she went further and said, "According to the rule book, if you know, you know, which is a direct jab at rule 12A, the exact rule that says AA Wilson should have been tossed out of the game for stepping into the stands. " And to be honest, it wasn't anything major at the time, just Sophie on her couch making Wilson look utterly foolish while holding a coffee cup. But within days, the post blew up.
The video went so viral that her ex and Tik Tok combined gained over a million new followers in days. And then she performed as a ring girl at UFC 329, holding round cards and pointing at the crowd. She took the exact moment people used to mock her and turned it into her whole personal brand.
She didn't just survive the drama. She actually monetized it. Clyde Drxler, a guy who actually respected fans his entire career, saw the video and sources close to him said these were his exact words.
That's how you do it. You take what they give you, you flip it, and you let it work for you instead of against you. She turned one moment into an entire brand.
That's not combustible. That's smart. And that's what these blind haters completely miss.
She gained a million followers off this. She's hosting UFC events. She's literally everywhere on sports media right now.
Meanwhile, the league trying to censor her is watching its own credibility go down the drain in real time. Sophie won the PR war before her podcast even hit the internet, but the media still tried to take her out anyway. Which brings us to the article that came out about Sophie that was so outrageous that Patrick Ewing could not believe what he was reading.
On October 6th, The Athletic dropped this column by Candace Buckner, claiming Sophie Cunningham is way too much of a combustible distraction for the Indiana Fever and that they should straight up cut ties with her. They called her out of control and said she was a problem. But sadly for Candace Buckner and the Athletic, it got absolutely destroyed on social media within hours because no one was having it.
Even the Fever's own GM, Amber Cox, shut it down before the piece even went live and told the media that these attacks on the team and their fan base have zero basis in reality and need to stop immediately. The attacks on our fan base have no basis in reality and they need to stop. And let's actually talk about her basketball stats for a second since people want to play fake analyst.
She is currently averaging 7. 9 points a game while shooting 41. 9% from three, which is literally fifth best in the entire league.
She's not a distraction at all. She's an efficient, productive bucket getter who happens to say real stuff that makes fragile executives uncomfortable. The column was not about basketball.
It was about silencing her. Patrick Euing spent 12 painful years dealing with New York media trying to label him as the problem instead of the star. He knows those exact buzzwords and he knows why they use them.
Word got back from people in New York that when Yuing heard about the Buckner column, he said, "They always call the person telling the truth the distraction. I know exactly what that column is. It's not about basketball.
It's about making her quiet. She should keep talking. " Euing had entire seasons where the New York media wrote him off, called him a distraction, and questioned whether the Knicks should build around him.
He faced it every year and kept showing up. And what he is doing for Sophie is exactly what nobody did for him back then. But the most devastating response to the Sophie situation came from someone who knows firsthand what it costs when a player does not grow up.
So after Sophie told Wilson to grow up on her podcast, some of AA's fans panicked and went digging for any dirt they could find. And the main counterattack they pushed, the one they spammed everywhere online, was the video where Sophie pulled her shorts down during warm-ups once. Now, before Gil says anything, let me just point out that Sophie was wearing fulllength briefs under her shorts, like actual jersey shorts, not underwear or anything explosive.
No body part was showing. She was an athlete goofing around during warm-ups the way athletes have done since the beginning of time. But even setting that aside, goofing around in pregame warm-ups and abandoning a live professional playoff game to confront a paying fan who was investigated and cleared of everything are not remotely the same category of human behavior.
One is an athlete being silly before tip off. The other is a professional sports star, one of the biggest players of the league, leaving the job she's paid to do to go after a civilian who pointed at her. Arena's heard the pants down counterattack, and according to the reporters who asked him, he laughed once and then got serious.
He said, "Somebody pulling their pants down in warm-ups and somebody leaving a playoff game to confront a fan are not the same conversation. The fact that people are using that as a rebuttal tells you everything about why Sophie had to say what she said in the first place. As she said, "Y'all got to grow up.
" But if you think Gilbert Arenas's reaction was wild, KG is the one who zeroed in on the specific thing Sophie named that nobody else in the WNBA had the nerve to say out loud. KG spent decades in the NBA watching superstar players like LeBron get a completely different call than everybody else. He played against super teams where whoever was the face of the league operated under a totally different set of rules than the guys coming off the bench.
And he knows what it looks like when a league protects its golden child while everyone else gets slammed with cheap fouls. So when Sophie named the actual Aza whistle on her podcast, specifically accusing Wilson of receiving favorable foul calls that no other player in the league gets, KG did not need any explanation. Word got back through people who were around KG that when the Sophie podcast came up in conversation, he said, "She called it what it is.
" And AA whistle is just a LeBron fowl by another name. Every player on that court knows it's happening. Sophie is just the only one who said it, and now they're making her pay for saying it.
That's three decades of elite basketball experience looking at the WNBA and calling out the fake reality. KG lived through superstar bias his whole career. And the wildest part about Sophie is she didn't just say it once and hide.
She kept pushing through the fines, the column, the internet hate. And that brings us to Larry Bird, who has a super specific personal reason to agree with every word she said. Look, Larry Bird's reaction hits totally different than anyone else you have heard so far.
And it's not just because he loves when people stand on business. It's because those Indiana fans Sophie's been going to bat for over two full years are literally his people. He grew up right in French lick, Indiana.
He knows those exact crowds in those exact gym seats. So when AA Wilson spent two whole years calling Indiana fans hostile and racist, and then the WNBA's own 9-day investigation came back showing zero evidence of anything, Bird was watching that. And when Sophie hopped on her podcast and defended those fans out loud, Bird took that like someone backing up his home turf.
Then Sophie pulled a move most active players wouldn't dare pull in a million years. She bypassed the whole WNBA front office and talked to Adam Silver directly multiple times through agents close to the commissioner and she went to the press and said the league needs a commissioner who is players first and someone bold who wants the best for the players and not maybe for themselves. She said all of that publicly with her name attached while the WNBA was still finding her.
Bird reportedly said this when the conversation around Sophie's year came up. She's talking to the commissioner about what this league needs. She's defending the fans.
She's saying what needs to be said and putting her name on it. In Indiana, we call that being straight. I call it being right.
Bird has zero patience for people who say something and then fold the moment the pressure arrives. He criticized Pippen publicly for his contract situation because Pippen complained without standing firm. Bird's whole mindset is that you back up your mouth with action no matter what it costs you.
Sophie gets hit with three separate fines. She keeps talking. Some writer drops a column saying the fever should cut her.
She keeps talking. The league stays silent while shielding Wilson. She keeps talking.
That's that old school Indiana grit bird respects more than anything. And he sees it in Sophie completely. However, here's where things took a crazy turn.
The final legend who reacted zeroed in on something about Sophie that nobody else mentioned. Because MJ watched not just what Sophie said about the fan situation, he watched what she said about Wilson's response to being beaten by Aaliyah Boston. And what he said about Sophie's competitive character is the most unexpected thing in this entire video.
So, back in September 2025, after a playoff game where Aaliyah Boston was absolutely beating AA Wilson, Wilson went to the media and essentially said she just played badly and that was why the game turned out like that. No credit to Boston and no acknowledgement for how well Indiana played. Just, "Oh, I played bad.
" And Sophie Cunningham, who was Boston's teammate, went on her Show Me Something podcast and said this. And they gave us no credit. Like there's like, "Oh, we especially like Asia.
" She's like, "Oh, I just played bad. " Like, I'm like, "Dude, AB had you in clamps, my girl. " That's Sophie doing the one thing Wilson's been refusing to do for two entire seasons, giving credit where it's actually earned and respecting the competition.
And that exact detail is what got Michael Jordan's attention way more than any fan drama ever could. Jordan built his whole legacy on the idea that you respect the game and your opponent, even while you're ripping their heart out on the court. He literally said back in 97 that the ultimate compliment was going at someone with everything he had because he needed them to be great to prove his own greatness.
Jordan reportedly brought up the whole thing in a meeting. And according to those reports, this was his statement. She's been fined three times for telling the truth, attacked by the media, had a whole column written saying they should cut her, and she hasn't changed a single word she said.
That's not combustible. That's the most competitive thing I've seen from the WNBA all year. MJ said that was the most competitive thing he has seen all year.
Coming from a backup guard who shoots nearly 42% from three and refuses to shut up even when the league docks her pay. That is game over. Sophie didn't just win the internet noise.
She got the nod from the greatest basketball player ever. So after all this chaos, the fines, the hit piece column, the jumbotron mess, talking to Silver, a million new followers, and 10 legendary NBA players all agreeing with her. The WNBA is still out here calling Sophie Cunningham a distraction.
Sophie exposed the double standard, defended real fans, went over her boss's head, and turned hate into a massive brand. Meanwhile, the league fined her three times for telling the truth while ignoring everything else. So now I genuinely want to hear your take in the comments.
Should Sophie run this league?
