know, sort of co-opted into this uh c alleged culture war. And I was quite frankly insulted by uh what Bill Maher had to to say. I think he completely missed the mark.
And just the term woke has been in my view co-opted by the right and weaponized and bastardized. And um so I was surprised to hear you use the term because historically as you know cuz I think you're quite brilliant that woke is a word used by the black community to note that we must be aware of social injustices. But words migrate why why is that a bad thing?
It's not a bad thing and and originally that was absolutely a great thing. Alert to injustice. Who's not for that?
But words do migrate. Sunonny Host loves to speak as if she holds the moral high ground. But Bill Maher has put her selective outrage under the spotlight.
They claim to speak the truth without fear. Yet things get uncomfortable when someone exposes their political double standards. Now the spotlight is on the view and its own contradictions.
And Mars criticism is raising a bigger question. Are they really holding everyone accountable or only the people they disagree with? I want to talk about what we go over because I got so many texts this week cuz she attacked me the week before.
So, she was everybody was like, "Oh, Bill, I get you're enjoying the karma. " First of all, I'm going to talk about this at the end of my show next week teaser. But, uh, there is no [ __ ] thing as karma.
Okay, get over that. [laughter] [cheering] Lucky [applause] [laughter] attacks me on a regular basis. She says stupid [ __ ] on a regular basis.
They just happen to go inside. When a long-running daytime talk show brings an outspoken comedian onto its stage, the hosts usually expect a friendly chat and a little promotion. But this time, things took a different turn.
Instead of a routine appearance, the conversation became a sharp takedown that put their arguments under the spotlight. It's a particularly weird place to do a cancellation [laughter] because it's called the view. It's called the view.
It's not called the facts. Yeah, but but isn't it interesting that it's called it's I mean I don't think they meant this when Barbara Walters invented it a long time ago, but it's the view. Well, that's the problem in America.
There is one view opinion and everybody else can go sit in the corner. Bill Maher stepped onto the view set and faced Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Host, Joy Behar and the other co-hosts. What followed was a tense exchange as he challenged what he saw as their selective outrage and political double standards, refusing to back down just to keep the conversation comfortable.
Finally, New Rule stopped saying that Whoopi Goldberg getting yanked from The View right after she attacked me on The View is karma. There's no such thing as karma. Sorry.
Sorry, but life is random. The only word to describe it when a big game hunter gets trampled by an elephant and then eaten by lions is hilarious. From the moment Bill Maher took his seat, he showed little interest in the usual polite talk of daytime television.
Instead, he went straight to what he saw as the panel's biggest weakness, their tendency to act as if they always knew what was morally right. He wasn't there just to exchange jokes or keep everyone comfortable. He challenged the image Whoopi Goldberg and her co-host had built over the years.
The tension grew when the host spoke as though they were the ultimate judges of acceptable speech, modern values, and political behavior. Mah turned that idea around on them, questioning why wealthy television personalities spend so much time telling ordinary working Americans how they should live, speak, and think. Here's what she said about Michael Vic.
He's from the South. This is part of his cultural upbringing. For a lot of people, dogs are sport.
Instead of just saying he's a beast and he's a monster, this is a kid who comes from a culture where this is not questioned. Okay, you see the point here? Again, I don't agree with her on Michael Vic, but we grew up in two different worlds which the white people imposed upon the black people.
When Sunonny Host tried to use her usual legal arguments to defend progressive ideas, Mah challenged her position by questioning whether polished language really matters if a realworld results don't match the promises. He pushed back against what he saw as partisan talking points dressed up as serious analysis, turning the exchange into an uncomfortable moment for the panel. Whoopi Goldberg then stepped in, seemingly trying to bring the conversation back under control.
But Marah continued to challenge the hosts instead of backing down. He questioned whether frustration, dismissive gestures, or seniority at the table should give anyone the final word in a debate. Joy Behar also came under scrutiny as the discussion turned to a familiar criticism of the view.
Despite its name, does the show genuinely welcome opposing opinions or do different viewpoints often trigger interruptions and outrage from the panel? Sunny has the first question. Well, I had a different question, but but but it struck me that in in in the first segment, you used the term woke and you said that woke is what was sort of ruining everything.
And I know that you're No, I didn't say ruining everything. I said that's why Trump could get re-elected. That's why Trump could get re-elected.
So I I the best part of Mars roast was how he challenged the idea that anyone criticizing society must have lost their political direction. He stood by his belief in logic, free speech, and common sense. While accusing the panel of selective outrage, he questioned why Whoopi, Sunny, and Joy were quick to condemn their political opponents, but often less vocal when their own side faced criticism.
The exchange grew increasingly tense with the hosts looking uncomfortable as Mah continued to challenge their arguments. for someone else's misfortune. But your old high school boyfriend didn't wind up a janitor because he dumped you a week before the prom.
He's a janitor because he got 600 on his SATs. And Whoopi Goldberg getting suspended by The View isn't karma, and I wouldn't want it if it was. People have to learn to disagree in this country and not hate for it.
Maher challenged the panel's moral authority right there on live television. He didn't just question their hypocrisy. He turned their usual style of commentary into a target, arguing that confident speeches and heated arguments mean little when they can't stand up to basic logic.
The familiar daytime set suddenly became the center of a much tougher debate than the hosts might have expected. Instead of playing the usual friendly guest, Mah pushed back against what he saw as a growing disconnect between wealthy television personalities and ordinary Americans who are tired of being lectured about how to think and live. The panel's entire approach came under scrutiny with Mah challenging their arguments and refusing to let the conversation drift away.
And whenever Sunny Host brought in complex legal or academic language, he questioned whether those words actually address the everyday concerns of regular people sort of to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. Reflect how insulting for someone of her age who's a sophisticated person and the impact of her com. There is no impact.
There aren't neo-Nazis waiting for the green light from a lady on the view to go out and do a new crystal knot. Yeah. You're so right.
And the the whole point of free speech is we don't need free speech when we're right, when everyone agrees with us. We need free speech when we're wrong. We need free speech to make mistakes.
We need free speech to say really Whenever Whoopi tried to regain control, Mara kept pushing back with sharp questions about public safety, free speech, and consistency. The contrast was striking. The hosts are used to interrupting guests and backing each other's arguments, but Maro refused to play along.
His blunt humor challenged their usual talking points and raised a bigger question. Was their moral outrage really about principle or simply about defending their own political side? [applause] Whoopi said I was flippant and immoral for saying it's time to chuck the masks and get back to normal.
Well, are 43 states here in America and the entire nations of England, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland flippant because they're saying the same thing now. CO is so much more complicated than just I'm for more safety than you are, therefore I'm a better person. But Whoopi is misinformed on many aspects of the co debate.
After she got it recently, she said that being vaccinated quote doesn't stop and that's the problem of the variant because it gets stronger. Mah turned his attention to the cultural superiority he believes dominates modern daytime television. Key questioned how lecturing ordinary Americans about the right words to use could count as meaningful public service while serious problems affecting their daily lives go unressed.
When Wilby tried to present the show's discussions as an effort to educate the public, Mah challenged that argument as an example of elite arrogance. He then took aim at what he saw as the panel's biggest double standard, demanding accountability from political opponents while rushing to defend their own side whenever its favored candidates make mistakes. any term you want.
Okay? Because maybe that is a word that's triggering and so we let's not use that word. I don't know.
Want to call it the the super far left. But don't tell me the left be the super far right. He's talking about the left.
Well, then but but we talked about that. I mean, I think we agree about the danger of the super far right. And I've you know, I can't say it enough.
I think they're the bigger threat. Um but don't tell me that the left hasn't changed. Mhm.
I I mean, I'm old enough to remember when it was the conservatives who hated the Jews. Yeah. Okay.
Uh Maher exposed what he saw as a clear double standard, arguing that real principles shouldn't change depending on which political party is in power. He accused the view hosts of moving the goalposts to protect their allies while holding their opponents to a much tougher standard. Joy Behar's usual sarcastic remarks didn't seem enough to change the direction of the debate as Mara continued challenging the panel's arguments.
He also questioned whether the show's constant political scolding was helping people understand the issues or simply deepening the divide. The irony, he argued, was that a show that regularly promotes tolerance and open-mindedness could be unwilling to give opposing viewpoints a fair hearing. I pulled the quote from when Whoopi defended Michael Vic.
Remember Michael Vic was the football player who was electrocuting dogs and I'm a lifelong PETA board member. A very different opinion and the answer is not to make them sit in a corner for two weeks. That is insulting.
It's so insulting to make a 65year-old I mean that the as the segment came to an end the host's reactions spoke louder than their usual speeches. The heated interruptions and dramatic responses seemed to fade as Mah continued challenging their arguments. He showed viewers how different the panel's usual confidence can look when an outspoken critic refuses to play along.
His appearance raised a bigger question. Are the hosts as comfortable with open debate as they claim to be? Or does that confidence depend on having guests to agree with them?
For critics of the view, the moment felt like a reality check. They saw a show that often presents itself as a voice of tolerance and understanding, struggling to deal with serious challenges to its own political views. Ira Glasser, former longtime head of the ACLU, talking about free speech.
Whoopy Goldberg, who by the way, I hope is still a friend. We can disagree with each other, should not be cancelled or put off her show. As much as I totally disagree with her crazy statement, free speech, she should be there.
She shouldn't get a timeout. [applause] Not every single thing has to be for everybody. When the cameras finally cut away, the mood on the set had completely changed.
Mara's sharp criticism had left the panel facing some uncomfortable questions, and the usual confidence seemed to give way to an awkward silence. For viewers at home, the contrast was striking. Instead of the familiar interruptions, dramatic reactions, and supportive comments between co-hosts, the moment felt unusually tense.
Critics of The View saw it as a reminder that even the most confident television personalities can face a difficult challenge when someone refuses to follow their usual script. Actually, it usually gets weaker, as is the case with this one. But that's okay.
She's allowed to be wrong. It's 11:00 a. m.
Clearly at that hour I [laughter] I'm still in REM sleep. [applause and cheering] And as I mentioned last week, how could a nation like America have maintained an apartheid state for the vast majority of its history and expect the views of the races to match on all matters? It's amazing they match on any.
Whoopi Goldberg shouldn't have to conform to or apologize for her views on race as much as I disagree with them. Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Host, and Joy Behar were left facing tough questions as Mah challenged their arguments and question their moral authority. The exchange turned the tables on a group of high-profile television personalities who often criticize ordinary Americans, but must also answer criticism themselves.
For their critics, the moment highlighted how difficult it can be to defend a public image when someone refuses to follow the usual script. In the end, the encounter became a sharp reminder that no media personality should be above criticism and that anyone who demands accountability from others should be willing to face it themselves.
