hello friends this is the second part of video series lecture of slit lamp in this part we will discuss about the focusing of slit lamp and proper positioning of patient during examination the first thing you have to do is to unlock the slit lamp so that it can move in the desired direction in which you want by moving with the joystick and after that switch on the slit lamp by switching on the power button adjust the magnification by rotating the magnification dial on the slit lamp to 10x or you can use 16x also the magnificence
should not be too low or too high now the next step is to focus both the eyepieces through which patient's eye is observed by the examiner the eyepiece provide 12.5 x magnification these are the two eyepieces this is the left one and this is the right one there is a scale on the ip which have zero mark in the middle on the right side of zero there is a plus mark which is used to correct the hyperopic refractive error of examiner's i and towards the left there is a minus sign which is used to correct
the myopia of the examiner eye in case of imetropic examiner the pointer should be placed on zero so in this manner we have to focus both right and left eyepiece accordingly for proper clear observation of patient's eye so in this way both eyepiece can be focused for proper precise examination of patient's eye now the next most important step is to adjust the inter public distance by rotating these knobs which houses both the eyepiece lens inward for short purpley distance and outward for wide ipd or interplay distance this is the focusing rod which is used as
a target to focus both the eyepieces of slit lamp before examining the patient it is inserted on the slit lamp on the coax alarm of straight lamp [Music] properly adjusted on the mount so that its clean surface should be perpendicular to the observation arm or often perpendicular to the lens of observation arm now when we switch on the slit we can clearly see the target that we have to focus through the eyepieces [Music] individually now we can see both eyepiece and the target in the video let's suppose that our examiner is emotic so when we
rotate the ip style towards zero as you can see the target is very crisp and clear this is the final point of focus there is one more method which is very common and very practical and easy to use just you can use any piece of paper with the text and attached to the headrest move the slit lamp towards the forward direction just slightly more than halfway the distance then switch on the slit lamp and adjust the beam of slit by rotating the knob so that it can be easily focused on any text written on the
paper then rotate the number of eyepiece until the text get focused suppose our examiner is emotic then it will focus on the zero mark [Music] so the target takes through the eyepiece that focus as we rotate the eyepiece knob towards the zero because our examiner is imetropic so it gets crisp and clear towards the zero mark which is the final position now the next most important step is to adjust the ipd for binaural single vision and better stereo options during the examination when the ipd is not adjusted according to the examiner we perceive our examiner
perceived to different targets through the eyepiece after adjusting the ipd the target appears to be single through both eyepieces the next most important step is to adjust the height of slit lamp according to the setting position of the patient the height of slit lamps would be adjusted according to the patient and the patient is rested on the chain rest and headrest and adjust the knob so that this black mark should align to the temporal canthus of the eyeball and this is the proper positioning of the patient on the silicone and after addressing the patient you
