all right y'all let me tell you about this experience I was at a conference recently and the worship absolutely incredible the room was alive hands raised voices lifted Hearts fully engaged it was the kind of worship you dream of being part of and I was all in until one song started playing in an instant something felt off it completely pulled me out of the moment I looked around expecting others to notice but nope everyone kept singing like nothing had changed meanwhile I stood there thinking wait does no one else hear this this isn't biblical and
that's when I knew I had to talk about this and to my surprise as I listened to the lyrics of this worship song I found myself looking around waiting for someone anyone to react surely I wasn't the only one hearing this surely others would stop take a step back and think wait hold up this isn't biblical these lyrics Don't line up with scripture but no instead I saw a room full of people hands still raised voices still singing Hearts still engaged completely unbothered it was as if nothing had changed and that's when it hit me
how easy it is for us to get so caught up in the feeling of worship that we don't stop to think about the truth behind the words we're singing now at this point I know exactly what you're thinking brother Allan what song are you talking about because whatever it is I do not want to be guilty of of singing it and trust me I got you I'm going to tell you exactly what this song is in just a moment I'm going to break down the lyrics line by line and show you the exact issues that
made me stop in my tracks but before we go there we need to talk about something important because this isn't just about one song this is about a much bigger issue so before I reveal the song we need to establish some ground rules some key principles when it comes to worship music because if we don't have a solid foundation we'll keep making the same mistakes over and over again now let me lay down the foundation for this entire video I don't have five points for you I have one major point and it's this worship songs
are just as important as sermons period so let me ask you why is it that we would never sit through a sermon that is theologically inaccurate yet we'll sing along hands raised eyes closed to a wor ship song filled with lyrics that don't line up with scripture why is that why do we have a zero tolerance policy for bad Theology and preaching but when it comes to worship music suddenly accuracy takes a backseat to emotion think about it that's a serious problem well let me tell you exactly why this happens it's because as Christians we
get caught up we get Swept Away by the emotion the moment the feeling that a song gives us we say man this song makes me feel so close close to God it gives me chills it stirs something deep inside me and before we know it that feeling starts to override our discernment instead of running those lyrics through a Biblical filter we bypass it completely our theological Compass out the window because at the end of the day we convince ourselves if it makes me feel closer to God then it must be okay right but here's the
problem that's not how we're called to approach worship and that's exactly why we need to talk about this now here's why this is so critical because songs have power more than we even realize think about it when you find a song you love what do you do you play it over and over again why because it makes you feel something it stirs up an emotion it creates an experience and naturally you want to relive that high again and again so you keep listening and the more you listen the more those lyrics sink in they get
into your mind they shape your thoughts they influence your spirit and here's the thing whatever message is in that song whether good or bad over time it starts to feel true and before you even realize it you're not just singing the lyrics you're believing them you're living them that's why this conversation matters all right so what's the song I'm talking about well you may have heard it before you may not have but instead of just telling you outright let me read some of the lyrics and as I do I want you to listen closely and
see if you can catch where this song starts to go off the rails now at first everything sounds solid the theology spoton it starts like this I've tried so hard to see it took me so long to believe it that you choose someone like me to carry your Victory Perfection could never earn it you give what we don't deserve and you take the broken things and raise them to Glory okay so far so good this is biblical Jesus conquered everything we are seated in Heavenly places he is undefeated no no issue here then it continues
that you are my Champion Giants fall when you stand undefeated every battle You've Won I am who you say I am you Crown me with confidence I am seated in the Heavenly Place undefeated with the one who has conquered it all still nothing wrong here it's powerful it's encouraging it's scriptural but then something shifts something changes and this is where the problem Starts Now listen to this next part carefully I can finally see it you're teaching me how to receive it so let all the striving cease oh this is my victory all right nothing alarming
just yet then the chorus repeats but then this is where things take a turn right here this is where the problem starts the lyrics say when I lift my voice and Shout every Wall comes crashing down whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa hold up what wait a second what are we talking about here what walls are we talking about Jericho spiritual strongholds emotional barriers or are we saying that anytime we shout walls just magically come tumbling down because that's exactly what it sounds like and that's where we have a problem so let me get this straight
we now have the power to shout or lift our voice and just like that walls automatically start falling okay but then it gets worse and next the lyrics say I have the authority Jesus has given me all right I can work with that as Christians we do have a level of authority given to us through Christ no issue there I'm good with that but then comes this line when I open my mouth Miracles start breaking out I stop stop stop wait a second what so now all I have to do is speak and miracles just
start happening just like that is that really what we're saying here because that is where the real problem begins so when I heard these lyrics being sung at this conference and when I open my mouth Miracles start breaking out I had to stop and process what I was hearing because this is exactly the problem with a lot of worship music today it's subtly Shifting the focus away from God and onto us see this is how dangerous theology sneaks in little by little line by line this is what's known as Word of Faith teaching or what
some call Little Gods Theology and here's how it works it starts with this idea God created the world in seven days using only his words that part true then it moves to we are made in the image of God again true but then here's where the Distortion happens because God spoke the world into existence and because we're Made In His Image that means we also have the power to speak things into existence and before you know it we go from God has all authority to we have the same Authority as God himself and that's the
issue that's where the line gets blurred that's where worship stops being about God and starts being about us the moment I heard those lyrics I froze right there in the middle of worship I tried to keep going tried to push past it but I couldn't shake it something felt off the whole experience messed up for me and what shocked me even more I looked around expecting others to pause to hesitate to recognize what was being sung but no hands were still raised voices still singing people still lost In Worship completely unbothered and that's when it
really hit me how easy it is for us to get caught up in the moment in the feeling without ever stopping to ask is this even biblical you see this song started off great it was all about God his victory his power his undefeated nature a god- centered gospel but then something changed the focus shifted it stopped being about God and started being about us and that's when the song went from worship to self- glorification and this right here is why we have to be so careful with with the music we listen to because we
can't just choose worship songs based on how they make us feel it's not about the energy the vibe or how powerful the song sounds it's about truth we have to execute worship songs the same way we would execute a sermon because at the end of the day if we wouldn't accept bad theology from the pulpit why would we accept it in a song because at the end of the day worship songs have just as much if not more power to shape our thinking than an actual sermon think about it how many sermons do you remember
word for word now how many songs have lyrics stuck in your head for days that's why this matters so from this day forward I want to challenge you when you choose the worship music you listen to don't just go by how it makes you feel don't just go by the emotion or the powerful Melody let scripture be your filter let the Bible determine whether a song is worth singing Because if it's not theologically sound then it's it's not worship no matter how good it sounds then listen God forbid if you are a worship leader watching
this right now I need you to hear me I pray that you take your role seriously because whether you realize it or not you have just as much influence over what the congregation believes as the pastor does every single week the songs you choose they're not just Melodies their messages their shaping minds they forming Theology and if you're not intentional you could be leading people into feel-good worship instead of biblical worship so let this be a wakeup call worship isn't just about sound it's about substance all right now I want to hear from you what
do you think about this song Champion by bethl have you heard it before do you like it and more importantly have you ever really thought about the lyrics this way drop your thoughts in the comments below I genuinely want to know what you think let's have a real conversation about this and hey if this video made you think differently about worship music don't forget to like this video and share it with someone who needs to hear it I'll see you in the next one God bless
