what is [Music] marketing that's the last thing they think about again it's a misconception marketing spend as a Founder you can actually do a lot of free marketing around [Music] you just these three books will give you good [Music] enough can call itself as a another question uh General opinion unless you're Apple nobody cares about your logo where you always this sorted in your life I think most of our audience who watches this they would be in the very confused situation thinking what to do in my life was running a business and he was suffering
losses is very different when it comes to marketing homr company approaches in a very different way cultural mindset problem for Tamil Nadu Brands to succeed in the rest of the country there's also this image marketers or manipulators because it's the truth is it growth marketing Performance Marketing SEO email marke what is but you don't have to worry about it because marketing espcially step byep we have someone who has 13 years of experience in this marketing field they say it's very hard to be an expert in a field like marketing because person last 13 years con
he one of the best digital marketers in India and I'm pretty sure you will be able to understand why he is the best once you listen to this entire podcast because next 0 minutes explained everything in the best way possible he's someone who has worked with Brands like Amazon Reliance R Asia and so many more and help them generate over 300 CR of and I really wish in the podcast will actually make an impact to you as a person but in the cas you don't have to pay 500 rup just try to spend your 90
minutes of your time in this show and I'm sure you will learn a lot of things so welcome to the third lane podcast so first of all thank you so much for making the time to come to the show and I want to start off with asking one thing or when I research about you uh there is this one word marketing raled around whatever the thing you do online and you look very sorted your life looks very sorted okay he's the marketing guy he knows his stuff and whatever question people ask you you have a
very clear answer to it so it looks very sorted like you are born to do this thing it feels like when I look at you that's that's how it makes me feel but were you always this sorted in your life or is there a phase where you were also confused maybe I think most of our audience who watches this they would be in the very confused situation thinking what to do in my life because not everyone gets to do what they love you know I'm just wondering like like did you have always fact if I
have to put a number and the confusion pH almost four years actually not four years almost years I didn't do engineering by choice it just happened right like all of us like most of us right uh enging in fact I was a you know really good student you know I was a state ranker schank because somehow finished four years campus you know 2009 recession period okay uh globally worst scenario generally they do it in hundreds confus by accident what do you mean at that stage of my life I had to figure out something in the
MBA quality of Education I know that I'm going to be wasting another two years so I dropped out again again similar perod you know because I had lost my money to a fraud at that time okay card it's not like SED um stock broking then we were doing Telecom sales post connection almost two years [Music] family where I had to figure out life that is the time I stumbled across one certificate course in fact you know I used to think marketing door to door selling a lot of people still a lot of people think that
marke represent they used to call themselves as marketing people oh that's where it all started they used to calls negative I fell in love with that subject certificate okay for the first time in my life I felt butach I'm talking about 20123 very few comp India has had a lot of Legends in the field of marketing digital marketing Legend you know for example you know if you have to look up to someone or inspiration if you read things globally globally then everything started falling in place period of confusion but as I gained more experience you
know the way I behave today it worked in my favor it did not happen before got it actually there is like but still feel like the Journey For example same engineering and then I was very confused but we kept trying different things you had no idea about stock stock broking yet you tried and then eventually landed in something you love so the thing is we should actually experiment a lot of different things that's where but unless you try different things you will never discover that that's the only form I go travel somewhere and find my
passion you have to try different things fear Jud I was pushed into a corner business he was running a business and he was suffering losses I was pushed into a corner that discovering of passion happened much quicker unless you try different things you will never discover that pure experiment yeah that's nice and as you mentioned we will start with uh what you just said which is in Market but if I just call my friends right now and ask what is marketing everybody will have a different definition and to make it even more complicated if we
ask a marketing expert they will also come up with a very different definition with a lot of buzzword in it so fundamentally what is marketing is it sales is it branding marketing let's clear that out first of all uh it's not like they're incorrect everything is right most of the definitions that okay there is some meaning towards what this person is saying gener at least in my perspective [Music] and I don't give any prescriptive information prescrip I'm going to tell you what worked for me right what is my definition what is my opinion sales okay
dictionary of difference between marketing and sales right marketing has to lead to sales marketing has to lead to revenue at least in my it's not marketing Philip Cotler is considered to be a guru in marketing yes you have to create awareness but you have to create awareness awareness amongst people who can buy your product visibility amongst set of people who are going to buy your product so if I go back to the previous definition marketing has to lead to sales marketing has to lead into Revenue it's really good marketing at least followers are real 1
million at least followers it's good marketing okay and the followers will eventually have to buy from you great marke it's not good marke Bas got it it's not good marketing okay didn't happen Okay follow question I understand more than visibility first you have to understand so how a company should approach Sho example this is what is a category the more the number of people problem for example say shampoo for which the category is very big awareness is very high to succeed in this market is relatively easy and the marketing that you have to do marketing
let's say you're launching sayg drink Z picking up now Z enery drink so simple situations already I've come in the journey for three four years as a customer basic Head and Shoulders anti shoo both are correct in their approach head and shoulders and the highly scientific but they both appeal to different customer segments so category customer segments each customer segments are different leg Head and Shoulders will go after everybody who are in the beginning of their dandruff Journey yeah or Advanced brand or popular d2c brand right it's they're picking up but they're not as big
as head and shoulders okay very specific speak to the dandru customers who are in the advanced stages already they will look for something very very specific scientific language language SCI very simple let's talk about the second example most health conscious let say heal I don't think he endorses or doesn't endorse anybody he does he does cycling creation initial segment of follow they will go for that drink in the first segment of customers marketing can't save a bad product simple [Music] okay marketing because I work for brands that genuinely solves a problem for people I've always
chosen [Music] Brands but the product has to really benefit enery drink [Music] [Music] but the people who already bought only the product was good they will buy again more the number of people buy the product zti dandruff eventually this will become anti-and okay so in the the anti dandr ceg then it's a dog fight everybody fights with each other thens [Music] and shoulders Head and Shoulders I've seen it in ads I thinked it's leg Head and Shoulders availability [Applause] frequency oh okay frequency frequency frequency the more the number of times so even though there are
100 shoos and shoulders even though you don't have experience yeah that is going to be a first choice 100% frequency so there are different ways to Market a product uh India most of the country watches when India plays cricket matches right because of the frequency nma washing powder Jing [Music] things marke you don't have to go learn it in a school okay at least I hope everyone who is watching it uh you will start learning marketing from everything that you see around you the best way to learn marketing it's very interesting learning so yes to
create a problem for that demand that's how businesses has been done for a really long time but recent as you should be aware of this so organic soap charcoal toothpaste and eventually they start establishing more products and compete with life boy at some point of time it's a very legit way of growing a business director I an allout anti of shamp but it is literally suicide if you ask know unless sensible way to grow a business is to occupy a portion of the market 50 lakh people let's say they buy anti-and of shampoo in a
given month uh you can launch a let's say most of them are buying Head and Shoulders you can launch a competitor to Head and Shoulders hoping that many of them would start buying your product you can launch to solve a problem very specifically are you tired of these anti- dandruff shampoo that is not curing your dandruff right promise I'm making a big promise here not every Head and Shoulders customer will come and choose this product but a good portion of them who have been unhappy with that product they will consider portion of the people will
start buying because of the promise even though it is very similar product the promise and the product delivery eventually people will start moving here more and more people who have been unhappy with Head and Shoulders they will start moving to this category it's a very legit way of uh running a business instead of competing with direct head on compete you need Deep Pockets Head and Shoulders it's not just because they run ads their product is everywhere okay Supermarket so only big businesses very big businesses can do it so it's a very legit way of going
first corner of the market Capt win the customer trust and the customers automatically they'll spread the word of mouth you know once you have a decent enough base scale new products launch new markets different product very legit way of growing a business to occupy a niche and then go big later yeah I think sleepy is a great example for this so but I didn't know this is actually a mainstream pattern that mainstream pattern most now it has become a mainstream brand but when they started of they started with very few products and Mama product range
you know they it was already dominated by Hindustan PNG Head and Shoulders Mar companies they were already dominating the skincare segment started expanding the portfolio website social Med you know they started expanding slowly now they're available in retail shelves now m is a very big skincare brand yeah this is such a good Insight actually this can Beed even content small of we can build the in the first place and then eventually we can expand there is a [Music] market there are companies that are trying to solve the needs Salesforce they primarily sell CRM CRM software
customer relationship management Salesforce at this time it was dominated by other behs orac CRM but CRM used to be on premise absolutely old way of running a business your CRM should be on cloud first okay they said say no to these softwares the the new way of running a CR amaz on cloud sales force has become a behim Oracle is nowhere in that CRM Salesforce number one in the world right so they started catering to small unhappy set of customers and they because it was a good product word of company automatica grow grow grow they
become a it took them probably 20 25 years to get to where they are but eventually number one in the world that's actually a good insight for me I can actually up in content creation also yeah so that's nice another thing that you mentioned is a good any kind of marketing would work yes no matter even if you the best digital marketer in the world the product sucks you can't do anything about it what is the situation otherwise if the product is really good does it actually need Market let's take b2c as an example direct
b2c as direct customers customer2 at least in my opinion everyone needs marketing there are different forms of marketing grow on a company very very few companies z z was a phenomenal product they launched a product at a time um it was dominated by the other big stock broking companies right but Advantage I'm going to be a mobile first company and I am going to have a flat fee instead of you know trade the market need they were unhappy with other people because they had to pay really high commissions every time they had to make a
trade and then you know Zera comes up with a flat fee or something like that and it was a mobile n mobile app it was very user friendly to use Word of Mouth wild [Music] spre it happens to the rarest of the rarest of the rarest companies if I'm talking about 100 companies 0.1% compan companies can be zero though you can either be that founder who believes I have a great product I'm not going to do any marketing my customers will spread the word of mouth and wait right or you can actually marketing you can
grow faster right so even Z there was a form of marketing it was called word of mouth okay word of mou marke it can only be influenced by a good product in fact word of mouth is the most powerful marketing channel but unlike other forms of marketing which we will talk about word of [Music] marketing so if you are that founder who believes that % you be it do marke is essential you have to start thinking marketing even before you start manufacturing your product oh is it yeah okay so it's clear that marketing is necessary
but aess they want to create aess small medale that's the last thing they think think about it goes into the product resource hiring when is the right they will have to actually think about marketing and even influencers or people like takes a lot of money not a lot of people can do it so is there any jug way to do it yes uh again is a misconception Mar there are variety of free things that you can do as a Founder you can actually do a lot of free marketing around you let's say you have a
LinkedIn profile LinkedIn profile cont you know around as a product very likely you're solving a pain for a customer segment you know that can be very short video clips that you can put out on Instagram which catchy thumbnails that doesn't cost you money you can do it yourself right YouTube learning and the videos LinkedIn learning and the videos immediate it will come from a very close friends and family immediate the first few customers and um plus you know there are a lot of free things that you can do of it doesn't cost you anything it
cost you a lot of effort you have to switch the gears but by the time you already have gotten enough traction using all the free forms of marketing content creation on all the platforms distribution is free mobile number forms of marketing are there in the early stages do all the free forms of marketing that is is available to you okay even if you have to go speak to customer individually okay there is something called SEO search engine optimization you can do it yourself you can record a selfie video you can put it in Facebook groups
you can put distribute it in WhatsApp groups there are hundreds of free ways to do Market in fact 100 free ways to Market my product okay misconception misconception you have to do it eventually as a [Music] business but you're already making money so that is a good time you know whenever you feel that is the time you switch gears you have to really spend money on marketing and then get that traction otherwise you'll miss the bus it's better if you spend 15 off it reinvest in marketing is there uh I mean I hate to say
the answer it depends marke you often hear most of the marketers depends on the business and the margins that you make uh Tech business or you're selling a software your gross margin is very high what I mean is uh let's say if education program it doesn't cost you any money to sell the same program to somebody else only the first time all video online it doesn't take you any additional effort to sell the same thing to 100 different people thousand different people 95% you can actually spend on marketing to make that 5 rup okay margin
right phes Logistics cost labor cost excluding all of that you can only make about 30 rupes 35 R to make 3 I can't make can't spend more than 15 20 rupees sometimes 35 rupes and spend one more depending on the competition if online [Music] competition initial stes of your business you have to spend that to acquire a customer customer so different stages of business 20% off your Revenue should be marketing is not true Okay the reason they say 25% is because for most of the physical products 20% good guess Marg that you'll be making is
305 so then it makes sense mostly eCommerce softare but that changes completely completely is dependent on the business okay makes sense yeah this is actually true let's consider a small scale business owner in our mind okay first there are a lot of confusions one way there is Performance Marketing growth marketing demand generation marketing account based marke is another thing useful in different ways but I don't know I'm just throwing out numbers or top three or top five types of marketing which most of the business Founders should be aware of okay uh but I think if
if you're talking about small businesses it totally depends on how the customers are discovering your business okay for example just by seeing that same medal % off okay that would be the step one step one step mean Google becomes a Channeler distrib [Music] discount customers repeat customers medic it's a form of [Music] promotion percenta so as a business [Music] you have to do Marketing in all of those channels okay car mean [Laughter] top three top four in my opinion at least it's an incorrect approach how did you hear about the customers 50 people have come
from WhatsApp 20 people have come from Google five people have come from billboard very interesting so it starts with the customer right it always starts from the customer while you were mentioning this just an interesting activity which any founder can do like customers the founder himself can create an alter ego of 10 customers that is marketing simple reviews [Music] Google customer service will make a customer want to buy from that okay branding logo color AD customer gut feeling about your business is branding okay General opinion branding L unless nobody cares your so unless you that
going back toing [Music] feeling let's take an example popular brand party Coca-Cola i e and party okay feeling ca-ca sweet sweet enjoyment enjoyment yeah that's exactly what Coca-Cola wanted you to perceive s enjoyment celebration and happiness celebration not just that and the the product was a good product of course you know it's a decent I'm not endorsing Coca-Cola or anything like that but because you wanted to have a happy moment non offensive drink many people like Coca-Cola so the gut feeling it's built over a period of time it's not done by one commercial it's not
done by one newspaper ad it's not like apple launches revolutionary products anymore right but why the customers they're willing to pay extra same product Android but the customers are always willing to pay that additional 50 60,000 to get that iPhone the gut feeling that gut feeling is built over a period of time not just Steve person stores created that feeling about your brand branding it's not easy it's not easy many people brand [Music] brand is when you're willing to pay extra for the same product or Nike shoe almost similar quality Nike but why are you
paying extra for Nike actual brand okay when the customer is willing to pay a premium for a business is when they have actually truly created flip cart but are you willing to pay extra to buy from flip cart yeah questionable okay for example regular Amazon Shopper I will still buy it fromon in my dictionary Amon is a brand [Music] so the BR it's a gut feeling that is created by a business over a long period of time and not by just pushing one brand ambassador okay brand is when you're willing to for the very similar
product same product avilable at half the price but I'm still willing to pay more additional stack in your bus and you have to make them feel something it could be any emotion but so that is one thing and another fascinating thing is branding is very subjective can a call itself as a brand in the first place another question see you know even if you are building something very small you will still call it a brand because it's your baby okay right uh you will still launch a new campaign you while a cricket match is happening
but that doesn't change what is there in the customers theut feeling they have about you word of MTH [Music] issues customer my of course yeah mrf I'll tell you a consumer po because I did some research about the brand but has mrf okay that built a lot of credibility hold that thought it's very subjective very similar exactly similar uh specification the mrf a 2 years warranty AP has a 5e warranty and Apollo's product is priced at 20% lesser than mrf now will you choose a sain brand or will you choose Apollo rationally speaking I might
get mrf also because I still the rational customer would definitely choose Apollo because it comes with a higher warranty and lesser price of course I love suchin but so they will go for it experience with mrf I am willing to pay more for mrf one is of course if I have been a suchin fan then I would have been willing to customer experience with mrf is very high okay I just called up mrf customer care they already had my information they already had my vehicle information in the tire I didn't have to say a word
immediately asked my PIN code they showed me they booked an appointment for me I just have to tell my problem they took care of everything manager already my information under warranty claimed till since that day I have never chosen any other Tire apart from mrf okay in the cas even if mrf willing to you know sell the product very similar product 30 40% I will still choose but because of customer experience not because sain was thein endorsed the product so it's very subjective they have to do both to appeal to you they have to keep
such and they will probably have to bring vat kohi and shanil and all of them who are are considered to be the next Generation Indian Matters from my perspective customer experience now mrf has done the job very well for both of us this is how brand stories are built this is how big brands are built not by changing the logo not by changing the logo not by hiring a different brand ambassador or anything like that this is how brands are built over a period of time okay right before we switch to the next topic last
one thing which I wanted to cover is I felt like there are lot of intersection between marketing and branding yes what is the differentiation actually marketing mother branding is one of the favorite children of that mother it's another mother sales but uh branding is a subset of marketing PR is a subset of marketing digital marketing is a subset of marketing so marketing mother advertising branding digital marketing within digital marketing there are multiple children SEO Facebook ads everything comes under the big mother umbrella called marketing we have covered a lot of different things about fundamentals of
marketing and hear a different I want to take this conversation to a different angle I think WF podcast by n there was this spoke about content creation's mention [Applause] creators creators 18 years old 19 years old they knew a lot about traditional marketers and short content creation there are people who are in Industry like this must be one of the 100 things you would have come across like what is your take on this statement basically subjective take you know Trad marketing subjective take it's one of the channels a business can take right uh established business
let's talk about insurance company health insurance company yeah it's a very old business model but they will be utilizing pretty much every form of marketing channel oh every form of marketing channel starting from their website email marketing apps they will run Google ads they will run Facebook ads everything literally every form of they they will do Road shows they will do TV advertisements newspapers every form of marketing that you can imagine a health insurance company would be doing okay because everybody is their customers not everybody everybody is my customer not everybody but their Market is
huge health insurance 18 they they can't yeah even under 21 they they may not have the money uh or the education about why health insurance is required the category the 22 onwards all the way till 55 health insurance compan Creator marketing will be one of the forms of marketing New Age creators they will tie up with you know uh young and upcoming creators popular creators and they will create a form of content that will eventually push their brand towards different people they will they will get exposed to the new age upcoming 21 plus who may
not newspaper Facebook but they'll be consuming content on Instagram YouTube shs that age-old insurance company is now able to reach this new buyer with the help of young creators so I I do not know the perspective but from a brand perspective it is one of the chanels one of the 100 other channels that they will be marketing their brand on yeah okay and cont but I think they could do much better two best things three best things where very new Creator can actually do much better if if they have that production very well established businesses
let's talk about a healthare insurance IC Lumbard health insurance they will have a lot of standard operating it's and there'll be so many stakeholders commercial you have to take approvals from 50 60 different people legal teams check check off it'll go to senior people within Marketing sales Finance it gets really difficult for them to experiment with new age creators marke person in that company will have a lot of interesting ideas you will pick Z even without me it occupy a portion of your memory saying that restriction even though they want to work with young creators
lot of experimental new age content formats okay as more young people are taking over leadership roles CMO Chief marketing officer it's considered to be the superior Authority for these big Brands and the chief marketing officer he'll be like 50 plus exactly now what is happening young marketers are taking on leadership roles young Market young people I'm not in that 50 bracket yet right but I will be I'm already in a marketing leadership roers we will go and influence the system to change because if they continue using that system they will not they will lose on
market share have them understand espe brss okay because they are in the experimentation mode when they're young they can do a lot of experiments can afford to fail okay as a Big Brand the afford to failing the percent they have to succeed they will have no other option they will stick to the standard way of operating yeah but it does more bad than good yes or no right I don't think it is more bad than good okay maybe it could do more good but it is not achieving you know there's a restriction okay right sales
M uh I I see a lot of brands from North or even in Bangalore actually we discussed this even before the podcast they are doing exception well is it because like we people in ch are culturally not very you know show like do they consider Market or branding as a show off thing because of the way they brought up or why is it Bangalore is very different when it comes to marketing but home company approaches in a very different way in the cultur because the reason why I'm asking to you is you have been in
both spaces you worked with a lot of Brands and overall you have a lot of exposure but I feel like the way operate the way these companies operate is very different especially when it comes to marketing it's true it's cultural mindset problem [Music] uh we're different from the rest of the country we are definitely different just like us there are every state they are very unique nor there are this there's this heavy population within our country who share a very common language and common belief system Hindi speaking people right their own language Gujarat has their
own language own culture but there is there is this Hindi connect that unites them all there is Bollywood that unites them all because everybody watches Bollywood and a lot of that cultural beliefs you know movie industry has a huge role to play in shaping the cultural beliefs oflu movie online content langage one Hindi speaking Creator is able to influence a good portion of good population in the country if they doing something it reaches a lot of people system you will succeed very well in system very true they have gone from and they have succeeded in
India there are a lot of Tam BR succeeded globally a it's very very few brands that mindset it's a op Domin there even for for for the rest of the country to accept it and use it as their homegrown brand you know there is always a slight disconnect so unless consist activities on for example instead of always using a South Ambassador I will bring in a North globally pan India Ambassador right more visibility in the northern belt using their own languages speaking to each individual culture culture for example butterfly I've known butterfly brand Mi they've
done well in the rest of the country they also had this immediate initial the mindset challenges but they know they have done well product uh Market open open it worked very well for them right so long answer sh uh cultural mindset problem uh for Tamil Brands to succeed in the rest of the country okay makes sense yeah you have been in this industry for almost 15 13 years and uh do you call yourself as an expert when it comes to marketing no right never see me using the word expert also anywhere you know you're a
constant learner if you're not upskilling within a year within six months time so I don't think uh I'm I will ever be an expert in this exactly it keeps on evolving so what is your method to keep on like up because it's not easy to stay relevant for All These Years yet giving proper results to all the company you work with so does it take a lot from you to become a marketer and stay relevant it does it does it takes a lot to be a consistently successful marketer you have to get into uncomfortable situation
uh you have to get out of your comfort zone you need to accept that it won't work you need to you know unning unlearning and rear it's a mindset that you need to operate if you want to be really successful marketer it will humble you it will humble you it'll humble you and uh the more the marketers that you connect with uh globally uh opportunities these days you can connect with LinkedIn you can watch someone on YouTube content exposure the more the number the more the number of people that you get exposed to every time
it will humble you that that person will know more the same Concepts that you have known that person will know better than you okay often you put yourself in uncomfortable situ you will do well and more than that okay uh it'll eventually come with experience it's internet everything is available for free content is available expertise is available the open [Music] CHP literally every information that you want it's not behind the payall everything is available to you for free so let's say for example years it's not good for health and your mind okay okay especially in
our profession marketing everybody will have an opinion not just the marketing profession professional everybody inside business Community everybody in the company everyone will have an opinion on marketing and key is to keep ignoring this noise keep unfollowing a lot of people and the restrict the number of sources that you're learning from okay you will constantly be in that [Music] noise constantly be in that okay so every time keep picking up your inspiration right and there is nothing wrong in changing the inspiration you're not paying for them they are not paying you inspiration next year you
can change them yeah true people outgrow creators or you know knowledge consum every professional also they will have their limitations there is no one who has created consistently great content for 10 15 years St eventually you will know that you know the content quality is lacking you should know this is the time to unfollow this person or mute that person and follow somebody new marketing I just want to know to be a good Market certain so is it actually teachable it's it's a bit of both it's teachable plus there are people who are gifted uh
natural a the way they dress the way they speak right personality unique personality even critique BL right blar is followed by a lot of people because he has his own unique personality and the unique personality of follow it's marketing why does he have 1 million followers yeah right just the personality some people are really good at you know let's say being part of the conversations in everybody cares about his review yeah including the film fraternity you know this person doesn't have any background in film making but everybody cares about his review because of the personality
that he has created and the aura he created that is marketing it came naturally to him right all they have to do is just create a piece of content and put it out there Facebook it's just cre unique personality combined with good content that it's in on its own it's marketing L you know I don't know if you follow this company called rb2 rb2 uh it is there are two Founders for that company they're absolutely they go nuts on L because of this they gained a huge following because of the following and the company Revenue
six months they grown from0 to $4 million okay in AR in six months on the LinkedIn branding okay and because they had a personality unique raw thoughts they didn't follow anything in the rule book whatever works for you is marketing personique personality if you're sticking to it that will attract The Cult of followers online and that Cult of followers will eventually stop shop shop from you you know just like you know t-shirt so he started selling t-shirt and he using his influence to now sell t-shirts marketing takes different forms and shapes some people it comes
naturally it's all Tau yeah selftaught okay I I keep kept looking at different people I kept following methods because I've studied self taught myself on all of these topics but because I know all of these things I can Market a brand okay yeah I want to follow up on that because I consider you as a natural marketer I'll tell you why I feel like communication is a very major thing for a marketer language is different communication is different articulate in a way which the other person easily gets and I think you are natural it or
it might be trained there is so much Clarity in it is it trained but over the years of having been in different situations you know same 201 absolutely rash ertic opinion eventually life humbles you the more the number of people that me you meet more the experiences that you get the highly skilled people all of these things humble you and that brings you know sense of calmness and you know more clarity it's all taught I don't think I'm a natural marketer in learn okay important 100% that you can't at least you know corporate career you
have to be extremely you you need to have a good command on English how did you improve personally your language uh mirror speaking in front of been ridiculed engine first time stage I was giving presentation and people laughed at me Chang people who are survive especially in India not just in India anywhere anywhere in the world [Music] they'll pay you $30 $40 an hour okay no skills just English so wants to learn about marketing would you suggest MBA for them no yeah what's the right way then like experiment getting into the field getting hands dirty
that is one way that is a doing marketing is the best way to learn marketing okay not in books okay you know MBA I would recommend for anyone to do MBA only in top tier colleges the best of the colleges top 50 ranks colle I have been through this pain and I don't want anyone to go through that similar pain again exposure it's a very good course where exposure Global exposure marketing economics Finance HR disciplines world intruction only if you study in good colleges mostly successful top will become successful most of them 99% will become
successful and the network or value are different tomorrow if you're owning a startup some of them will put money on your startup or they will refer you to 100 other customers don't better of joining a company and learning marketing on your own it'll be a waste of money and time okayge is it content or YouTube or courses different methods Twitter and newsletter okay newsletters I've subscribed to like both are unconventional in like to most of the people Twitter and newsletter yeah yeah can you talk a little bit more about that newsletter unlike old days you
know the substack Beehive and the platform real creators I like following practitioners people who practice people are currently in the job doing things mostly subst regish they will publish once a month once in two months but that will be worth it that is like literally studying the experience of another person of practitioner Twitter you can eily filter out the noise and find who is really doing it you follow the right people limited number of people and whenever you feel content quality method of upskilling Twitter and newsletters have become my most favorite [Music] YouTube not anymore
and I also don't like uh this micro video learning you know Instagram real you can't learn that 30 seconds 40 seconds you can't learn much if I really want to Deep dive into a topic practically and the newslet long videos long videos I will look at the comments if there are valuable comments then only I will look at that video oh good way to fil and the comments meaningful comments I will see that video right can you suggest some newsletters or Twitter accounts that you would recommend to people because let's save some time for them
for if they want to learn more about marketing and get what who should they IDE follow you will not relate to them at all right I'll be following plg [Music] and you know there is MK1 work for SAS company SAS LA because I'm in that field I'm picking up very specific experts who are in that similar field too much absolute beginning just follow SE Gordon Seth Gordon SE Gordon is a you know give you good fundamental understanding of uh marketing um channels News letters I'm not sure I mean at least I do not know who
is creating Baner level content at the moment SE also has this very famous book this is marketing yes so marketing fundamentals you can get started with some books I would say okay so this is uh marketing is a great book uh there is this book called C cash advertising cash advertising cashvertising is there there is uh biology Bui biology like bi biology is biology just these three books will give you good enough uh there is this another book called $100 million Secrets right that's a great book you can pick the stream path different paths you
can take and email marketing there are specific people for email marketing but I what I would recommend is you know this stage because this information is available for free uh Facebook has its own University where you can learn Facebook for free Google has its own University uh Twitter has its own University HP has a lot of free certification programs in the basic fundament there will be some spark here and there performance can join agency where you can do SEO for a couple of years the field agenci managers are Cent servicing manag you will get exposure
to multiple things and then after working in an agency for three four years will into a a typical Journey for a market that I I personally recommend okay so yeah throughout this podcast I've the one thing that I that fascinated me is the way you answer every questions honestly and I personally learned a lot of things and I want to ask one question at last in there is also this perception towards marketers for me personally I love that profession Mar I always wanted to be a marketer if not for content creator I would have tried
my best to become a marketer but I would have tried my best but there's also this image marketers or manipulators people and there are companies who has not done a pretty good job like aess attention they went to very bad extremes as well so where should someone draw the line and people because it's the truth is it so we manipulate uh people people's emotions uh you know for a living and it's it's the way of life for a marketer right line drop working for legit companies okay working for good brands good products that genuinely solves
a problem for their customers then you won't be manipulating people you'll be stating the facts right you know you can add some spice to it but you won't manipulate people for a living for example you know tech programs that promises placements it's manipulation right anybody who says you know I will save 95% of your costs in or I will clear your dandruff in one week right crazy promises this is your you're intentionally doing it manipulation intentionally manipulating people for a living line drop you choose the brands that are really solving the problems for their customers
okay if I if you look at my own career I made some mistakes but I have deleted all of that from my life and my linked profile but then I have learned it the hard way uh you marketing cannot really fix a bad product okay you're better off working for a company that you truly believe in okay because otherwise you'll fall into the other side of the line manipulating people for a living and toxic comp they will give you free hand and then you will do you will go rockers to meet your targets Market it's
not marketers will have targets just like sellers right and the target start making bold claims because you're only looking at shortterm again I'm telling you it's not easy for everyone to go join a good company yeah when you start you might work for some of the Shady compan compies where you have to do manipulation for a living but eventually I would advise you to go to the other side where youo you'll be very happy okay then you don't have to manipulate people for a living you just have to add spice to the facts [Music] facts
it's simple will believe for the fifth time and it's true you're not lying if the 6 months if the customers use this product their Dand will be gone or at least it will reduce advice at least okay so if we believe in the product then we can do it yes yes right I wasn't actually expecting that answer like but yeah it makes sense yeah it's a nature of the profession yeah so you better you're better of manipulating for what the truth is sometimes you know the customers don't so you have to make some bold claims
to get their attention to come look at your product it's okay because eventually you're selling a good product to the customer yeah all right I think that's it for today's podcast thank you so much for every single answer but the way you tackled it and answered it is very different and very useful to me and of course it should be useful to the listeners so thank you so much for spending the time coming all the way from Bangalore so yeah pleasure having you and I would love to have another show explaining you know getting more
into more deeper into lot of topics so yeah that's for later thank you so much for inviting me that always gives a very good feeling yeah thank you for inviting me thank you thank you so much thank you
