Jimmy Kimmel is not funny. Um, and here he was least funny of all. What he said about Melania Trump now is making major news.
You would think he would have learned after making light of the Charlie Kirk assassination, suggesting that the guy who did it, Tyler Robinson, who's been accused of doing it, is MAGA. remember that led to his show getting pulled off the air for 5 days and then they turned him into Rosa Parks on the left. But listen to the You look at the lineup for these shows, his and Co Bears.
It's all Democrat politicians now, Paul. It's all Democrat politicians. They they want us to get excited about booking Adam Schiff or Democrat journalists like Jake Tapper.
Like, who wants to watch these people? Jimmy Kimmel has never been the funniest guy in the room, but this time he might have hit rock bottom. What he said about the first lady just blew up into headlines everywhere and the reactions are wild.
You would think he learned his lesson already. Not long ago, he cracked a seriously shady joke about the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk, hinting that the accused, Tyler Robinson, was tied to MAGA supporters. Kimmel is not funny.
But listen to the terrible quote joke he made about Melania Trump during this big yikes. That mess got his show yanked off the air for five whole days.
Then some folks turned around and crowned him the Rosa Parks of the political left. Bold move, right? Now look at the guest lists on his show and on Steven Colbear's too.
The pattern is impossible to miss. It's Democrat politician after Democrat politician, plus their biggest fans. Just yesterday, the lineup had Adam Schiff and journalists like Jake Tapper all from the same corner.
fired Chris Harrison from The Bachelor because a Bachelorette on that show went to an antibbellum party years earlier when she'd been a, you know, young college student and they thought that was racially insensitive. And all Chris Harrison said was, "Are we judging her by the standards of today or by the standards of when she did it? " That's all he said.
and ABC ruined him. He's never been heard from again. Have you seen Chris Harrison hosting some network show?
Um, no. His life was ruined. His career was ruined.
But you can say this. First Lady Melania is here. Look at so beautiful.
Mr. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow. Who would make a joke like that knowing that Trump had almost been relatively recently?
This is obviously before Saturday night, but I mean it is not an exaggeration to say that Trump was almost in July of 2024. That that's recent. And for this guy to get up there and say she's got the glow of an expectant widow like who actually wants to tune in for that every night.
Once again, Kimmel proved he's not the funny man he thinks he is. And this episode was no different. Here's where it gets messy.
This whole saga connects back to Chris Harrison getting fired from The Bachelor. [music] Why? A contestant went to an Old Souththe themed party back in her college days and people called it racially insensitive.
Harrison didn't say anything extreme. He just asked if we should judge her by today's standards or the standards of back then. One question and boom, his career was toast.
Since then, he's practically vanished. Seen him hosting any big network show lately? Nope.
Honestly, like Trump, he's got children, he's got grandchildren, he does have a wife, he has millions of people who love him and the glow of an expectant widow. How sick are you that I mean truly the left and the desensitivity that they're trying to create, you know, in people to the thought of political violence is truly pernitious. It's a It's a force for evil in this country and he doubles and triples and quadruples down on it.
Kimmel went on the Michelle Obama podcast which still has about four viewers and had thoughts on why him no longer being funny is just fine and he stands by it. Uh this is him in SA 13 I think it is. So, who thinks a joke about the first lady is a good idea right after a scary, very recent event that shook the whole country?
Kimmel said she had the glow of an expectant widow and people were stunned. His comedy keeps mixing in politics and he's openly said his views are tied up in his TV work. Megan Kelly saw that explanation and smelled a comedian scrambling to justify playing political commentator.
When she pushed back, things got awkward fast. and you have so bravely and boldly used your platform um to speak truth to power as they would say. Well, thank you.
I don't think of it as bravely. Boldly maybe. It just seems obvious and unavoidable and I um I I don't see that.
I just can't imagine. Kimmel argues politics matters too much to ignore and staying quiet would be a betrayal of his honesty. Sounds fair at first, right?
But Megan spotted the hole in it. He isn't running for office and he isn't reporting from inside the White House. He's a late night comedian.
In her view, he went way past telling jokes and started using his platform to push his own opinions hard. When the same targets get hit night after night, a satire show starts feeling like one non-stop campaign rally. Picture it.
A desk, a band jamming, and an audience ready to clap at every punchline. Megan felt Kimmel crossed a line from that cozy setup into something else. Got to slam the first lady.
Nice. By the way, her documentary has done very, very well. It's pulled in tens of millions of dollars, way more than any documentary of its kind.
And u he's incapable of even complimenting the first lady or just staying away from her. He can't cannot help himself and got a got a big laugh from the audience who cannot stand the president or the first lady. Then ABC got dragged into the spotlight and the debate got way bigger.
Was the network holding everybody to the same rules? Megan pointed straight at the Chris Harrison situation. He got burned over his comments about contestant Rachel Kirk Connell and photos from that themed party and he ended up leaving the franchise.
When Kimmel got backlash, the network's response looked like a totally different playbook. Same rules doesn't look like it. broke last night mostly that there were multiple reasons why Jimmy Kimmel was pulled off the air, but chief among them was not only was he not planning on apologizing when he was going to go back out on his show Wednesday evening, he was planning on attacking MAGA attacking words.
My words are being purposefully twisted, he was planning on saying per a report in the Wall Street Journal. See, it's our fault that we didn't under. That got Megan wondering if Hollywood really plays fair.
The industry loves to say words carry weight, especially when old comments pop back up. If somebody with the wrong reputation slips, sponsors panic, networks jump in, and execs scramble to look responsible. But when the person shares the same politics as the bosses, suddenly there's room for context, nuance, and a pile of excuses.
Everybody wants to study the joke from every angle before deciding if it's even a problem. That's the double standard she was calling out. And Kimmel made the perfect example because his show leaned harder into politics every year.
Kimmel, I'm glad you raised that cuz I've been trying to get to this all week. His show won the Critics's Choice Awards and he had the nerve to say this backstage. Sat 17.
It's interesting. It was almost a near-death experience for me and you know, of course, not literally, but I did feel a little bit like uh Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn watching their own funeral. Um when all this stuff happened and and to be here and to um see that people reacted to it in a not just a positive way, but in a almost a desperate way.
We're like, "Oh boy, when they come after the comedians, this is when we draw the line. " And uh you know, we're very grateful that they threw the line at us. Uh Link, a near-death experience.
I mean, how dare he use that term? How dare he? Kimmel ended up in the same storm over political pressure and free speech.
In 2025, his show was suspended after a firestorm over his comments about the tragic loss of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. His point was that the industry hadn't always shown the same patience to voices outside its comfort zone. But Kelly wasn't buying the victim act.
She said he can't play the underdog in a system that fed him for years. Her take was that Kimmel treats his own views as vital while the other side is just an easy punchline. That's a risky road for any comedian because great comedy brings people together even when they disagree.
Once it turns dismissive, you start losing half the crowd. Political comedy can get stale fast when the audience already agrees with the host. It turns into preaching to the choir.
Kimmel would fight back hard on that. He showed up at a no no kings rally out in California where he ran into my adopted home states uh one of the US senators, Chris Murphy. What is Chris Murphy doing at a no kings protest in California?
Get back to Connecticut and do your job. We have our own problems. You shouldn't be out in California marching with the losers out there.
We got plenty of losers of our own right here who need your help. All right. Um but there they are together.
Jimmy Kimmel went he brought his whole family. His his his dad too. They were holding signs.
I mean it's just like okay. So he's got his kids at a an anti-ICE and no kings protest. Great.
Uh he believes politics isn't background noise since it hits everybody's daily life and ignoring big events just because his show is for laughs would feel fake. That attitude has put him in the crosshairs of powerful figures again and again. And the back and forth has become a ritual.
Somebody throws a jab, Kimmel fires back, and the feud turns into brand new material. It's such a worn out cycle, it could be sold as experimental theater. Kimmel sees it as part of the job.
But Kelly sees a comedy stage turned into a political weapon in an industry happy to cheer it on. Truth is, justice in media doesn't hit everyone the same way. Kelly was asking the big questions.
Why do some controversial figures get hammered while others walk away clean? Why does accountability shift depending on who spoke and which side they're on? If a network stands behind one person and ditches another, can it honestly say its rules are fair?
That was the heart of her argument. There was no screaming match and no flashy celebrity beef, just a sharp comparison. millionaire privileged sitting out there in Beverly Hills because his show was off the air for five days.
Five days. That's it. And he wants to use that term.
And also just one other point to talk about how oh, you know, when they come for the comedians, where was he when comedians were being cancelled left and right in 2020 because of woke excesses? I'll just play you one, just one. Um, Ryan Long came on our show in May of 2021.
We didn't even have video. We were just an audio podcast. She challenged whether entertainment companies really hold everyone to one standard or pick and choose.
Kimmel has every right to share his views and audiences have every right to react however they want. So, the big choice is simple. Do viewers want their comedy served with a side of politics?
Once a comedian keeps picking sides and going after opponents, Kelly says he can't claim to be neutral anymore. The heat goes both ways and every word gets weighed. Kimmel can roast politicians and media stars all day, but Kelly can flip the spotlight right back on him.
She questioned the networks backing him and compared how he's treated against other controversial names. What made it so juicy wasn't the insults. It was the deeper question of who gets to decide what's offensive, who gets forgiven, and who pays the price.
She never needed a face-to-face showdown. She just laid out the contradictions and let the comparisons do the talking. For Kimmel, it's maybe another chapter in his political story.
For Kelly, it opened up a much bigger fight about double standards behind the scenes in entertainment. Thanks so much for sticking with me through this whole story. If it opened your eyes or got you thinking, hit that like button, subscribe, and share this video with your friends.
Drp your thoughts in the comments, too. What do you think about comedy and politics crossing paths? Who carries the heavier weight when those lines get blurry?
