well thank you thank you thank you what an honor hey I understand this is the wild crowd is that the case why does it feel like to be in the middle of such a movement of God they can't even fit everybody in this room in overflow in Glenn Beck in Cummings in orange cap this place is going all over the wall what does it feel like you're not praying for revival free Chapel you're right in the middle of one want to high-five the few people around you and say thank God we get to be a
part of this go ahead and be seated today and all of our free chapel locations seven campuses going on seventy could be prophetic you never know hey it is it's a true true honor to out to be with you guys today I want to just express my deepest love and admiration and honor for your pastors pastor Jensen Charisse these are some of the best people in all of Christendom hands down if I were you I would thank God all the time that I get to be under amazing godly anointed leadership pastor Jensen can preach the
paint off the walls I'll tell you we we watched him all the time on TV and cheer him on he's a good friend but we received from His Word and my wife Amy who I'm with here today's my best friend has given me six kids and is a great kisser she she always says Pastor Jensen's my favorite and then I elbow elbow and she says he's my second favorite my second favorite but he's we love love love your pastor my I think my favorite thing amongst everything your generosity as a church your kingdom influence you
touch lives all over the world your ministry is one of these strongest in the world today my favorite thing is the integrity of your pastors three generations faithfully serving Jesus loving one another in their marriage and I honor them great great privilege to to be at one of the great churches in America today and I want to bring a word of hope a word of encouragement I wrote a book recently it's called hope in the dark believing God is good when life is not its it is a message for those of you that might be
in the middle of the trial if you're hurting today if you have some unanswered questions if you're carrying a weight or have a real burden I pray that this is a message that encourages you builds your faith and offers a little bit of hope in the dark I'll introduce the the message today with a couple stories when I was a brand new follower of Christ I got to serve at a charismatic United Methodist Church where they actually would do the Apostles Creed and speak in tongues if that's not signed to the end times I don't
know what it is amazing thing we had a prayer service and we're praying for healing at the end and I was a prayer warrior I got to pray I was point 22 years of age as a relatively new Christian and so I was praying for somebody came up and they this lady said the doctor said my eyes are going bad I'm gonna be blind very soon would you pray for healing I just read in God's work that if there any sick among you let them come before the elders of the church and anoint him with
all on the prayer faith would heal the sick and so I thought I saw some oil in the office I know God's Word is true so I ran as fast as I could in there to go get the anointing oil and I had two options there was anointing oil and there was an unnamed bottle with a very pretty red top I thought to myself this is my first time to pray for a miracle I'm going with red because red looks more powerful I left the anointing oil bottle I got the little red thing I came
under I took the top off I didn't know how do I not with oil she was kneeling down I thought well put it on my finger I'll put it on her forehead it seemed like the most appropriate place I didn't know what to do what symbol a check didn't seem right so I did a cross the moment I opened up the bottle everyone in the room could smell this cinnamon smell exerting from this oil I learned later that the reason it smelled like cinnamon because it was not anointing oil indeed it was oil that you
put in a ring that you put around a lamp that makes the whole room smell cinnamon aid so I took this very strong smelling lamp oil and put it on her forehead the sign of the Cross not knowing it was lamp oil and immediately she started making noises representing pain on her forehead she said whoa whoa whoa whoa it's burning she's burning and I thought I've got the power I've got the power and so I prayed for her and the next week God is my witness she walked back into the church little red mark her
forehead and she said my eyes are better the doctor said that I've been healed God has healed me if somebody here wants to give a shout of praise it was truly amazing how many be thankful for God who heals she came in and she said my eyes are better Abigail I was very inexperienced and so I said no way I've learned since then to say praise the Lord and things like that I was in experienced we're thankful for a God through heals I have six children we have one grandchild a second one on the way
we have two daughters that are married a third one that's getting married there god help us pray for us people always say you must love kids I do love my kids but I love my wife even more it's why we have six kids and all God's people said making sure you're with me my second daughter her name is Mandy let me show you a picture of precious Mandy this is my daughter Mandy she was married when she was 20 Mandy is a spiritual powerhouse Mandy preached when she was 19 a lady you may have heard
of her name is Christine Caine saw the message and invited my daughter Mandy to go on tour with her propel conference to share the message at the age of 19 Mandy never went on tour right before her wedding she was 20 years of age and just two weeks before she came down with mononucleosis and we were really disappointed knowing it was gonna impact the wedding and make the honeymoon much less fun but we were completely convinced that Mandy would be better in no time at all a month went by she wasn't better two months went
by she wasn't better three months went by we got very concerned we took her to every specialist in the nation that you can imagine we have the greatest faith prayer warriors around the country praying for her Mandy was unable to go to church for an hour and 15 minutes because her body couldn't handle the pressure if she tried to do that she spent the next two or three days in bed and her life at the age of 20 was completely rocked and I found myself asking God why do you do some things and not others
I know that you can heal and I believe that you will but you haven't and I'm aching watching my daughter live in pain I came to bring a message of hope to those of you who know God can and believe that he will he has not just yet the book hoping the dark I wrote based on the book of Habakkuk it's an Old Testament prophet if you haven't heard of a backing your pastor preaches the best Old Testament messages he preaches unlike malla hellish ash Bar or whatever I don't know it makes it amazing that's
it but I want to give you an overview of the book of Habakkuk today there's three chapters in this little book Habakkuk is a minor prophet if I say a minor prophet by being a minor prophet that means he never made it into the majors hashtag dad joke did you catch I can do it again if you missed it he was a minor prophet very different from the other prophets he prophesied about six hundred years before the birth of Christ during a time when the economy the morale everything went downhill the people used to be
prosperous and blessed now there was a time of in a time of violence he didn't understand God why aren't you doing something about this most prophets would prophesy to the people on behalf of God here's what God said but but Habakkuk was prophesying to God on the behalf of the people and essentially he was asking the question that some of you may be asking right now God why don't you seem fair I believe you can and I know you will but you're letting your people suffer and I don't understand why a back in chapter 1
verses 2 & 3 Habakkuk asked this question how long Lord must I call for help but you do not listen or cry out to your violence but geez you're not saying why do you make me look at injustice why do you tolerate wrongdoing what I love about Habakkuk is this he doesn't hold back at all he's brutally honest he doesn't sugarcoat anything he just calls it like it is and he expresses purely his heart disappointment and emotions before God one thing that is so powerful to me about Habakkuk is his name the name Habakkuk has
a meaning and the name means two things at the same time it means both to embrace and it means to wrestle the very name of Habakkuk means to embrace to hold on to to hold tightly to and to wrestle and not understanding I want to warn you today this message is not a sitcom sermon what is the sitcom sermon some of you may have grown up watching sitcoms happy days Laverne and Shirley the office whatever you like today a sitcom is a kind of fun show generally speaking where there's an introduction there's a problem and
there's a resolution within 30 minutes or less by the end of the show everything works out and the problem has been resolved I love a good set Firmin if you don't like this message today I've got good news for you I won't be here next week come back pastor Jensen will be here preaching the paint off the wall next week this is not a sitcom sermon and a sitcom sermon which is a is good and biblical and right you might like lose your job and in a sitcom sermon that a couple weeks later you get
a better job with benefits and you walk in you're not married you're a young girl and you sit next to a cute guy who's very godly at your new job and together you see each other - all the love songs of the radio make sense and then you get married if there's a con job and you have a kid later on your name Incred cuz i came here today to bring your hope and faith that's what since it happened in a sitcom sermon real life and noise a sitcom sermon sometimes in real life you lose
your job and you stay unemployed for a long time and you pray and you believe and you know God can open the door but the door doesn't open when you think it should open sometimes in a sitcom sermon your marriage hits a significant bump then you both repent and you live happily ever after closer to Jesus and closer to each other before but in real life sometimes your marriage hits a bump and your spouse doesn't repent and things get ugly and you end up in a place you never thought you would be in a sitcom
sermon you get cancer and you pray for healing and you're healed and you live cancer-free for the glory of God sometimes in real life you get cancer and you fight it and you do chemo or whatever you play like crazy and you become cancer free and seven years later cancer comes back and you don't know why I need to warn you this is not a sitcom sermon Habakkuk asked the question God why are you not doing this the very same question that my family is asked seeing God do miracle after miracle we've seen you do
it we know you can and we don't understand God why you're not Habakkuk says essentially why don't you seem fair God and God responds to him and says something that is really really interesting verse five the Lord answers the question why don't you seem fair essentially and God says this God says hey about it look at the nations and watch and be utterly amazed for I'm going to do something in your days that you would not believe even if you were told now I don't know about you but if I ask God where are you
God why don't you seem fair and God says I'm about to do something amazing I'm thinking this is going to be time to celebrate I'm thinking that this is a sitcom sermon I'm thinking that God is going to show up and show off and do something better than what I expected but this is not a sitcom sermon I don't know if you've ever flown on business class on the international flight if you haven't I pray in the name of Jesus you get upgraded at least one time there's no such thing as heaven on earth but
there is hell on earth and that's the cheap seats on an international flight as like as well but they feed your cardboard they call it food the the service they're not nearly as friendly when we got upgraded if first time we flew business class there's a war if you don't know what it's like I can't describe heaven but let me describe business class to you when you walk in you don't sit in a seat like this for 17 hours when you can't walk again for nine days you walk into a seat that doesn't just recline
it doesn't just lounge it turns into a bed I'm not lying I'm not making this up you can lay down in it when you're in business class they give you this is I'm telling the truth pajamas pajamas I never knew you got pajamas you get little booties for your feet you get little I converse for your eyes you get a little stuffy stuffy stuffy to put in your ears they bring you out doors and nice meals they bring you a washcloth that is warm and damp and smells lemony fresh to wipe your brow if you
want a smoothie they will perish the plane they'll get a smoothie they'll catch you the next convention it is amazing they do what they do things you're never even in then business class they warm your nuts admittedly that did not sound right coming out but they do there's no other way to say it they dig your cashews your almonds your peanuts they're warmed didn't even know that was a thing if this were a sitcom sermon I would say to you sweetheart you're dating a guy it's not treating you well he's not serving Jesus he's unemployed
and addicted to video games he doesn't open up the door for you he doesn't pray God's Word over you I would say if you have faith to set that man free there might be a guy sitting two rows behind you who has his eye on you today and he loves God he loves Jesus he is employed and he will honor you and God is going to downgrade take out of you your economy class boyfriend because God has a business class man for you sweetheart that's what I would say to you if this were not a
sitcom sermon God says you're gonna be amazed you have no idea what I'm gonna do you're gonna be utterly amazed God says and here's what God says he's gonna do before I read you the verse you need to know that the Babylonians are the bad guys they're the dreaded hated enemies most places where I go when the crowd is kind of wild whenever I say Babylonians the people tend to boo just telling you just setting you up just in case you're in the mood to be you this is what God says I'm going to amaze
you and he says I'm raising up your dreaded enemies the Babylonians that ruthless and impetuous people who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwellings not their own they are the feared dreaded people they all come intent on violence wait a minute wait a minute god I love you I believe in you I trust you I'm seeking you I don't like what's happening I told you it wasn't fair I prophesied to you on behalf of the people you said you're gonna do something amazing and you're telling me you're raising up our enemies to destroy us
where are you God I came to bring a message to hope to anyone who's hurting and I went you to watch as Habakkuk simultaneously wrestles with God while not letting go he wrestles and embraces watch the internal faith struggle he says this Lord are you not from everlasting I'm embracing you God my God my holy one you'll never die I'm embracing your God your Lord have appointed them to execute judgment I'm wrestling with that God but my rock you ordains and to punish I don't understand this God your eyes are too pure to look on
evil you can tolerate no wrongdoing I embrace you God why then do you tolerate the treacherous why are you silent when the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves I am trying to embrace you when I'm continue to wrestle if any of you feel like this today I hope you'll understand that God understands your pain that God is big enough to handle your questions God is big enough to handle your doubts I am convinced that God would rather have you yell at him in faith than walk away from him in pain our God can
handle your questions David in the Old Testament where are you lamentations Jesus on the cross my God my God why have you forsaken me there's three chapters in the book of Habakkuk chapter one is all about wandering some of you right now you're in chapter one god I believe you can there's someone in Midtown right now you are praying and believing and you're not seeing anything you're in chapter one chapter one is all about wandering chapter two is all about waiting wondering is no fun waiting can be so much worse I don't know who I
came to speak to today but there's someone here you are waiting and praying and believing for your child to come back into fellowship with Jesus and you're not seeing it and you're waiting there's someone here who's waiting for a miracle in your marriage you're believing and you're standing and you're trying to do everything you know to do and you're not yet seeing God work in your marriage some of you it's like my family there's someone you love and you're praying for healing and you're believing and you're begging and you're interceding and you have faith with
everything in you and you've yet to see the healing you're in chapter 2 you're waiting and waiting and waiting in chapter 2 verse 3 scripture says this God says to Habakkuk for the revelation awaits let's say it aloud the revelation waits and a pointed time the word appointed time comes from the Hebrew word mo ad it means the divine appointment for the revelation awaits an appointed time it speaks to the end and it will not true/false this is for somebody though it linger though it has not come to pass so you continue to pray in
faith though you're struggling to hang on though you're trying to embrace God when you continue to wrestle with him Leaguer wait for it wait for it Church wait for it mom wait for it wait for it it will certainly come and will not delay wait for it wait for it wait for it is a little bit like if how many of your parents he prepares my Paris have you ever delivered your own kid just curious anybody I actually delivered our third child believe it or not I delivered Ana our third daughter which technically means I
was the closest human being when she came out technically so I claim it no one else can claim it and he gave birth to our first daughter it took like seven days for the baby to come out it got faster as time went on on the third one she started saying we were in the hospital and she said the baby's coming now and so I was an experienced guy with now the third one so I said I'll go and get the doctor just hang right here she said no you don't understand the baby's coming now
and I said okay I'll run and get the doctor and she said no you don't understand the baby's coming now I said I will sprint and go get the doctor and she said no you do something about this baby you put in me the baby's coming now [Applause] may not have been that horse but it was a dramatic moment in both of our lives and sure enough the baby came now I got her brag I was poised cool and calm I had the head in my hand kind of like I played baseball my dad's to
keep your butt down when there's a grounder I was Sophie I was there bad and then I went green and I almost passed out and when Ana came out I dropped her only about that far onto a bed but she is kind of odd today and we wonder if it might have been the truck how do you uh when that baby wants to come out you can't put a plug on it you can't push that thing back up at the appointed time it's going to happen and I don't know who's in Chapter two and who
is waiting right now but I came to tell somebody this if it's not God's time listen to me you cannot force it but when it is God's time Church you cannot stop it wait for it wait for it wait for it wait for it wait for it wait for it at the appointed time it will not delay for it will certainly come somebody needs to know that God's delays are not necessarily God's denials just because you don't see anything does not mean God is not doing something he hears the cries of your heart he's working
behind the scenes his Spirit is moving even when you don't feel it even when you don't see it somebody here is in Chapter two though it linger wait for it chapter one is all about wandering chapter two is all about waiting chapter three there seems to be a spiritual reset chapter three even though the circumstances do not improve yet they are about to get worse chapter one is about wandering chapter two is about waiting in Chapter three believe it or not in the middle of the trial in the middle of the waiting it's all about
worshiping I want to show it to you Hebrews chapter three verse 1 says this there's a cool little word it says a prayer of Habakkuk the Prophet and then it says on sitting off and by say sitting off yeah be careful when you say that in church it can go right what in the world decision off being well I looked it up and sitting off you ready for it sitting auth is the plural of sittin well there you go now you know and we can move on Sid Janus used one time in the Bible in
Psalm 17 of--this used only one time in Habakkuk chapter three shineth is a musical term and it's a description of how a worship song should be sung in a congregation for example you're unbelievable amazing free chapel worship teams can I get a little bit of love for our unbelievable anointed amazing free chapel worship teams might have the leader say I want you to sing this way with a little bit of jazz Flair the reason we're gonna sing a little bit of jazz player because our unbelievable anointed pastor is gonna come out with a saxophone and
he's gonna make every other pastor in America sick including myself because he can make that thing dance in ways that nobody else can I am not jealous but God is doing a healing work in me because your pastor does everything great okay they might say let's do it with a little bit of jazz flare so description of how you should sing a song in worship they might say let's do it with a little bit of a hip hop let's do it with a little bit of a I'm working on it you know I don't know
I'm yeah I'm trying so hard I'm gonna get it's a it's a term that describes how a song should be sung in corporate worship according to one commentary when you sing on chigan auth you should sing with strong emotion you should sing with and I quote impassioned exuberance you should sing with high spirited praise there was one article that described the worst rigid off this way I love it it called it praise get ready for this praise punctuated with exclamation marks this is not praise for the what Sigyn auth is not praise for what is
happening in my life shittin off church is praise for who God is for what he's done for His goodness in spikes of what you're experiencing on enough let me show you off in Chapter three this is what Habakkuk says he says watch him wrestle watch him embrace he says I heard and my heart pounded my lips quivered at the sound in other words I know about our pending doom coming for my enemies and so I do not like this he said de clap de que crept into my bones my legs trembled yeah I wait patiently
for the damned calamity to come on the nation invading us he's saying even though everything is bad even though it's going to get worse and then he says it directly though the fig tree doesn't bud and though there are no grapes on the vines though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no fruit so there are no sheep in the pen or cattle in the stalls in your world it might be though I still need a job so I'm still praying for my marriage though I'm still believing for my depression to go away but
I'm still believing for Supernatural healing in our world is though we believe you can heal our daughter and we believe that you will even though you have not yet done it he says this though there are things are not going the way I want it yet I will rejoice in the Lord I will be joyful in God my Savior there are dozens of reasons why I may not feel like praising my god but because of who he is because of his character because of his nature because of his faithful original high spirited exuberant praise with
exclamation points I will praise my god Church Judith isn't half-hearted worship son to God this expressed from the depths of our soul it's a faith that worships when everything feels wrong it's a faith that believes even when we do not see it's chapter three sitting off its praise with exclamation points Oh wrap up with this story if I could have the band come help us where we'll prepare to worship and close out our service today my sixth daughter is named joy and joy is the joy of my life you all have FC groups we have
life groups we were having a life group gathering and there was a bunch of us gathered together in a backyard for a party and the host made this most amazing zipline this zipline went from one side of a big acreage all the way down this hill to the far other side of the tree the kids were loving it we'd a rule though he had to be a certain height to go on it because you needed your feet to dig in to stop because there's no other way to stop well one of the kids put my
daughter who was 4 years old and didn't really know better on to the zipline and she was far too short to stop herself the last thing we heard was the most exuberant as she zipped across not everyone saw it but everyone heard it when her face was the impact that stopped her at that high pace she was immediately knocked completely unconscious everyone rushed over to her there was so much blood you couldn't see her face I could barely function Amy could not drive her to the emergency room I put her in the backseat of in
the car in a car seat and she's out and there's just nothing but blood when I got her to check her in I could not remember her formal name her name is Rebecca joy we call her joy her Jojo they said what your name like I don't know I couldn't member they said what's her birthday like I don't know I promise you on the dad I just don't know a soul so we took her inside and they had to do double stitches there to close up her chin first on the inside and then close up
the outside and rather than putting her under it they had me her daddy get on top of her and hold both of her arms down as a tear just stream down my face knowing that it was the most loving thing I could do but yet something that at that point from her perspective she just couldn't understand and my little girl my daddy's little girl cried out with her arms around my neck [Music] non-stop wrestling and embracing scream daddy no daddy no daddy no I don't understand daddy I love you daddy I love you I just
want to go out and play never will forget that and I held her down because it was good for her even though in her limited perspective she did not understand and she embraced and she wrestled and in the same way she had to put her faith in something she didn't understand at this moment with our daughter Mandy I'm hanging on to God and I'm praising him not for what I see because I do not like what I see but for who he is because I know he's good at all of our free Chapel locations would
you mind standing to your feet because there are some of you today I have a feeling that you might need to get a little ciggy with me get a little shigga shigga knows that you may be going through something that you don't understand and you may have an unanswered prayer and you may know God can and believe you will but he has not yet and you may be in chapter 1 you're wondering you're wondering some of you here in chapter 2 you're waiting you're waiting Church don't quit on God in Chapter 1 do not run
away for God in chapter 2 because listen to me you won't have chapter 3 type of should you not worship unless you get to know the character and the faithfulness of God in chapter 1 and chapter 2 so god I declare by faith today that by your power your grace and your strength that you would speak to your church hope faith and healing and all of our freaks ample locations those of you who would say I'm in Chapter 1 I am wondering where is God where is God where is God I'm in chapter 2 I'm
waiting I'm believing for a miracle and I'm not seeing it if you're in one or two right now and you need prayer which you lift up your hands high lift them up high all over the place look them up on all of our free chapel locations lift them up high God I thank you for your presence I thank you for your goodness as your church God we enter in to chapter three type of worship God we worship you for your character God we praise you for your name we praise you God for your goodness for
your power for your glory we praise you God that you are working in all things to bring about good even though when we don't see it we don't understand it you are working for our purpose and for your glory give us faith God may we come back like the persistent Widow again and again and again believing you are good god I pray for miracles god I pray for healing God I pray for deliverance god I pray for a provision god I pray for your blessing God when we see it we will praise you when we
don't see it we will praise you we will see it when we have will praise you with the answer prayer and even if the fig tree does not blossom and we see no buds on the vine we will lift up your name we're sitting up giving you praise your character your goodness your nature your glory o God we give you praise Church if you would just keep your eyes closed just an attitude of prayer and worship for a moment I want to speak to some of you that are here for a for an additional reason
today there are those of you you may recognize right now you know how to shop two three sitting off you don't know God in that personal way I'm completely convinced that there may be times when God allows us to get to a low point so that we have no real to look but up toward him why is God good church I hope you'll understand that while we were disobeying dishonouring and sinning against a holy God he was loving us our God is so good we praise him for who he is love is not just something
that God does love is who he is He loves us so much that he became one of us he came to earth in the in the power and the presence of His Son Jesus Jesus was born of a virgin he didn't inherit the sin nature from an earthly dad but the spiritual nature from his Heavenly Father he was God in the flesh perfect in every way he was the Lamb of God sinless who shed innocent blood on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins three days after he said it was finished on earth the
stone was rolled away Christ was risen from the dead death hell darkness is defeated by the glory of the risen Christ why so that anyone and this includes you anyone who calls on that name that is above every name the name of Jesus Christ you would be saved all of your sins forgiven you may say well I don't feel good enough for God I've messed up so bad that's exactly where all of us live and all of us stand we have all sinned we all fall short and that's why the gospel is good news we
don't deserve it and we can never earn it it's the free gift from God's love what do you do you turn from your sins you just come to Jesus as you are you're asked for forgiveness he will fill you with the spirit he will make you new the all is all gone it's all forgiven that's why many of you are here today and all of our free chapel locations those who say I need that I turn from my sin I call on Jesus Jesus saved me be the Lord of my life that's your prayer lift
her hands high now all over the place lift them up lift them up oh my goodness very lifting up all over the place somebody a lot of shout to God for praise right now somebody ought to give them Lord and honor hands what of all of our churches today in a moment we're gonna worship on Sinjin off those of you saying yes to Christ today we have next steps at free chapel we would love to invite you to take the next step to find your place in the church and to get to know how we
walk with Christ and reflect his love church were you ready to pray today are you ready to see hundreds of lives born into the family of God today are you ready to worship the goodness of God everybody pray aloud for a heavenly father forgive all my sins Jesus saved me Holy Spirit fill me so I can follow you live for you show your love reflect your glory my life is not my own I'd give it to you thank you for a new life now you have mine in Jesus name I pray with somebody to city
somebody works of God yes your friends here mister friends here we're not playing for a Bible for example we are we praise you not for the one we praise you for you [Applause] and thank God for what he's done today through the word that was given powerful powerful and listen before you leave today I want to make this important announcement that it's we thank God for what he does in this moment as the church on a Sunday but let me tell you it's what we do now and how we step forward is the most important
thing how we live our life Monday through Saturday and so I want to encourage you I will say there's all the resources that have been brought today are sold out that's how good it is but I do want to encourage you you can get pastor Craig's books online and I'm telling you you need to get your hands on these resources again to empower yourself to live for Jesus all throughout the rest of the week hope in the dark and then this book right here from this day forward it's a book that he and his wife
