foreign [Music] okay so the job is on it's yours you've been booked you're on to the team the very first step in the process is pre-production and if you know myself if you know the podcast the YouTube channel you know that pre-production is vitally important right there are steps and decisions that you make along the way that if you screw them up in pre-production you can't fix them on the day you can't fix them on set there's just no returning from that point so pre-production getting across it as fast as you can is of the
utmost importance in order to maximize your efficiency on the day to maximize your results that you get from set so we're not going to go over the entire pre-production ecosystem and there's an entirely separate course on that it's six and a half hours you can check that out if you haven't already but here we're going to go over the main elements that are pertinent to this job so there are things like the treatment that'll be on every single job you want to get access to that as soon as possible because we want to go over
and start to see see if we can glean some Clues from what the director is after what's going to be important what can we lean into how big is the sandbox going to be and where you can start to to use your time in pre-production to maximize efficiency right because that's the main goal of pre-production of trying to make yourself as efficient as possible in the lead-up to the shoot so that you can be relaxed you can have a plan you can have those moments to yourself to be able to look and try and find
things that will eventually boost the end quality of the project that's what you're trying to do in pre-production you're trying to get rid of all the little underlying questions and any problems that might come out you're trying to iron those out and you do it a bunch of different ways which we're going to get into but really for our purposes here we're going to be looking at the treatment and we're going to be looking at the agency boards that come in and then talk about how that fits into figuring out just how big the sandbox
is like what toys are we going to have access to how big is the shoot going to be what style is the shoot going to be really for a cinematographer as soon as you can determine that stuff the earlier on in the process you can determine the size scope and the expectations that people have on the team of what the end result is going to be the better place you are to be able to provide that and that really is the goal of cinematography the commercial world is helping the director achieve their vision for what
they want this thing to look like all along the way adding your own points of interest your own expertise to really Elevate the project that's how you make a name for yourself that's how you get repeat clients and that's what we're going to try and do with this commercial here so this pre-production process is always going to be different every job is its own unique thing and every pre-production process is slightly different but there are the basics that are always in place and things that you're always going to want to get across so we're going
to jump straight in to the treatment and the agency boards and figure out just how big this sandbox is going to be
